The Writers Guild of Role Play Gateway ( )

Postby Gabriel_Whist on Wed Dec 24, 2008 4:19 pm

Here at the Writers Guild of Role Play Gateway we are dedicated to raising the standards of RPs everywhere. We require a higher level of dedication and commitment to our RPs, and far greater level of skill and literacy than can be found in the majority of threads around Role Play Gateway. The Guild will be a tight knit, and cohesive group, working together to create better experiences for their fellow members. Together, we will create RPs, already knowing that we have a host of players interested in joining, a host of players who are skilled writers, and who will actively post.

I believe that with this Guild we can find a greater level of enjoyment, create deeper and more complex RPs with greater plots. If we, the dedicated and skilled players of Role Play Gateway bond together, if we work together, we will be able to far enhance the role play experience for all of us.

The primary goal of the Writeres Guild of Role Play Gateway is to get skilled and dedicated RPers together, so that we can make role plays that we will enjoy more, of a greater skill level, and that move at a swifter pace.

Secondary goals include helping younger and/or less talented players to "beef up" their skills, so to speak, and using the greater level of communication this will provide us to create RPs that more of us will be interested in.

To join, you must meet the following qualifications:
1.) You must be literate. At all times.
2.) You must be active, posting at least once a day if possible, and notifying the GM if you will be gone for longer.

And thats it, those are all the qualifications you must meet. If you happen to be a skilled writer, that is a large plus, but I believe that in a group such as this, the members will all be pushed to write at their best at all times.

To join this group, please post to show your interest, and PM me a brief writing sample to show your skill level, and literacy. Also, please do not join if you will not be active.

I wouls love to do something like this. In fact, I was considering putting up such a guild for a while, too... But now you've gone and done it for me!

I hope there's a lot of people who are interested. Then there'll be no real worries about having incompetence in roleplays... >.>

Well, first I'd like to get some male members, seeing as how this is currently me and three females, which would create a bit of an unbalance in RPs.

After that we can start to work on RP plots, worlds, storylines, finding things that we can RP that will be interesting and entertaining. With a small and dedicated group of skilled players we can go into greater depth and complexity in our RPs.

So, say we were playing a Bleach RP (I choose this just because its easy to show what I mean here), instead of it being primarily a bunch of 12 year old kids going, "And den George went, BANKAI! And his sword turned into a 12 foot tall pillar of flame so powerful that it could burn through anything in the world.", it could be us actually learning to communicate with swords, learning Kido and training in our skills. Coming to terms with our responsibilities and job, and while there would be combat and turmoil, there would also be greater introspection, and more to the RP than merely massively godmodding fights to see who has the biggest sword.

Well, there wouldn't necessarily be imbalance in our RPs if some of the girls were to play guys, which many have been known to do. I personally know that I need to work on my male roleplaying skills, but for some reason have been avoiding the prospect of it. >.< I don't really know why, maybe because I'm afraid of uber-stinking.... but anyways, I know I need some practice.

Alright, yeah. So, maybe you should put up a, "Literate Male Roleplayers Wanted for Writers' Guild" topic somewhere. Maybe then you'd get a couple of guys to pal around with ;)

And by the way, please don't use twelve year olds as references to bad roleplayers, seeing that I'm technically eleven (as it truthfully says on my profile.) I mean, most twelve-year-olds would probably roleplay like that, but I'm just saying don't judge based on age... I know I consider myself at least an adequate roleplayer. Lol. And you all probably thought I was older... :P Or not. xD

Literally 9 out of every 10 people that I have ever had problems with on the internet have been 13 or younger. The other 1 out of 10 has inveriably been a person who enjoys being an asshole at all times for no reason, essentially a troll who repeatedly comes back. The ones who were 13 or younger I always had problems with because of their sheer stupidity, and often their inability to realize that they were not all knowing and could be, and indeed were, wrong.

So while age might not make you stupid or a horrible role player, the vast majority of people who are stupid, unskilled, and illiterate are younger. Thats just the truth, and I'm not gonna pretend thats not the way it is, or sugar coat it.

In short, I will continue to use twelve year olds as a reference to bad roleplayers, because the vast majority of them are. However, that has nothing to do with you, so please don't take offense.

EDIT: Accepted Sammy, welcome to the Guild.

I'm unsure if I meet your standards for literate/skilled but I'll expect a response from the Pm I'm making right . . . . in 20 minutes, I have to go eat.

Sounds like a utopia of sorts. But only a fool stands in the light of greatness and doesn't act.

That's Moz-speak for: I'm in. If you'll have me, of course.

If considerable time is more than a day than this really isn't the place for you. One of the key factors that I look for is people that RP at a decent pace, as this is a place for people who are going to actively participate. If other people are posting frequently it might be necessary to even post twice or more a day if possible.

Oh, hahaha! 15 minutes is nothing at all, thats fine. I would never expect you to be able to post every 15 minutes, let alone in less than 15 minutes, that would be ridiculous!

EDIT:

Mozenrath, Accepted.

VeniVidiVici, don't worry, your writing is fine, definitely up to snuff, and even if it wasn't this is a place for growth for those who are willing, Accepted.

Ayabrea, your post disturbed me, as it appeared to be a post about sado masichist sex play, but it displayed your writing, which seemed to be good enough, and if not we can help you bring it up, so Accepted.

If you guys want we can start working on RP plots now, and trying to get one going, we have more than enough people now. I've been reading a lot of creepypasta lately, The Holders Series (again, I read a lot of it before), The Dionaea House, Ted Caver, tried to read John Dies at the End but it looks like its a real book now you have to buy, and an assortment of shorter and less well known stories. I have also read a shit ton of the SCP articles, but that was a while ago. I think it would be really interesting to do an RP like a creepypasta. Especially if we had no idea of where the plot would go when we started, and it just kept going in greater and more disturbing depth until all of our characters died, without ever divulging what the terror really was. Could be fun, what do you guys think?

Meh... it could be fun, but I think I'd like to know what the terror really is. I mean, it would be great to be able to create that type of atmosphere, but nonetheless... I prefer to know as much as I can about any RP so I don't make any stupid mistakes. That, and it might get a little confusing for myself if people just randomly died off with no plausible cause...

Read this.

http://www.dionaea-house.com/

And then tell me that not knowing everything isn't way better.

And this.

http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/page1.html

Your imagination is far more terrifying than anything that could be written down and not knowing is a million times more terrifying.

EDIT:

Another RP idea that I think would kick ass is, as best I can describe it, a Dark Knight RP. Now, I don't mean it would be Batman, or even happen in the DC universe, but it would have that feeling. There would be no superpowers, just extraordinary characters, with some greater amounts of technology (like Batman), and looser laws of reality (such as the Joker surviving the truck flipping upside unscathed, or the amazing physical feats and intelligence that a large number of the characters exhibit). It would be a darker, more realistic universe (more, not entirely), that had characters like Batman and the Joker, super heroes and villains if you will inhabiting it. I want it to feel like Frank Millers The Dark Knight Returns, or the movie the Dark Knight, or the Watchmen (all powerful naked blue men and freakish alien beasts aside), I want it to capture that dark feeling where wrong is done for right, where even though some events may make you hopeful, you still see the horrible darkness of humanity for brief instances. I want us to create a tale where we can experience the joy and hope of a boatful of convicts throwing away their lives to save a boatful of civilians, where we can be crushed by the horror of a massive alien created by a man we considered to be a hero, and know in our hearts, that despite the evil of it, it was also what was right, what was necessary. I want us to be moved by the power of one man to change the world for the better, to do what has to be done, to make the hard choice despite the horrible consequences. In short, I want an over the top fantastic story in the dark and gritty world of reality.
