Traditional Fantasy: Chat role play setting. ( )

Hello there fellow role players. I've tried this little experiment in the past and, unfortunately, it has never gotten off of the ground. So I am looking for your help. I need people who want to have a continuously living and evolving setting to role play in. I will focus mostly on ongoing chat role play. Though it is possible to role play through the play by post options the role play tab offers.

I have a basic idea of what will be going down as far as plot, world design, and more. Certain players will be chosen as 'law enforcement' for non player vs player areas in the setting. But I would love for this to grow and become a large,
Image
even massive, scale role play through the RP Tab chat. This is to give us another setting aside from the Multiverse to work with. It also helps us keep things within the fantasy genre, and the ability to slowly develop and grow the setting as well.

Things will be high fantasy, various playable races. I will introduce a nice, balanced, battle system. I'm not looking for help on design, but if you would like to volunteer your ideas; I will make a post in the RP Design forum. But only after I have at least ten committed role players. Keep in mind this will be a 24/7 role play. So the more people we get in different time zones, the better!

Image
There will also be various factions added for war type scenarios, and large scale battle events. But, this isn't just for political role players, or war gamers, or people who want to fight. There will be banquets, and dances, and non-player vs player events. Monthly role play events like this to keep people coming back and showing their characters. I'll be making a setting map, in various detailed views. This is why it is so, very, important that I have a strong backing from the community. It will take every ounce of free time I have to bring this to you all.

So, if you would like something other than just a normal Multiverse sort of chat setting. Something, policed, with a character stat system, or just something to relax and role play in. Please let me know. Share your ideas. If you are interested, we will take this to RP Design and begin to flesh it out!

~Thank you, Vexar.

PS: No, it will not be called Traditional Fantasy. I have other names in the work.

You caught my interest with the first paragraph.

I'd love to start adding ideas and get involved. I'll let you know if I can come up with anything.

And I was looking forward to a traditional fantasy... Can I offer you call it a Cliche Fantasy instead?

I'm in. Nothing like swords and magic blasting their way through orcs and goblins. In regards to the two aforementioned would you be considering having quests, whether generic or epic, being pursued by the players who seek some form of reward?

BBClock, glad to have you aboard.

Leli. Oh there will be jobs that must be fulfilled and those to complete them will be rewarded. I plan on a HUGE array of lore as well. I would also like the players to post up jobs and the likes. Some examples of things I've laid out:

Places Tab:
  • Gathering area, shopping district, peaceful. PVP punished.
  • Gathering area, night time, bar, mixed peace. PVP strictly monitored.
  • Job Posting Board, it's own places tab for the simple reason of an easy to look place for new jobs and the likes.... ETC

I'm looking at about 7 major races, 13 more uncommon races, and probably 10 rare races. All entry to the role play is reviewed by officers of the various open realms...

Honestly I have so much to write down onto here that it's tough to convey in just one post. So, simply put, this will be huge xD.

How large a role would stats play in this? I'm vaguely interested, but I don't enjoy stat-based roleplaying if it takes too much of a precedence over writing and thinking creatively.

Stats would only be provided to give a numerical gauge on your characters ability in certain fields. Meaning your character has a 3 star rating in damage, 1 in defense, and 4 in magical ability. This way people have a clear defined expression of their characters abilities. It sets a restriction, which can breed creativity.

This only has a minor impact, it's part of character creation and allows people who fight eachother to correctly judge the outcome of the fight without too many other having to get involved. A person with 4 in damage and the other with 3 in defense... Well the defender will be taking harder hits, so they may lose the fight unless they outwit the other person, who happens to have a 1 in defense.

It will be fleshed out to have as small an impact as you want it to, or as big of one.

Alright, cool. I can't guarantee persistent and continuous activity, certainly not immediately - since I roleplay almost exclusively in Orsa at the moment - but having a fantasy setting to mess around with all those characters I create that are ill suited to the more populated modern environments of the MV should be fun!

So count me in, but don't rely on me, is what I'm saying I think.

Awesome. That's what is great about the freedom of chat. You don't always have to be around. I want it big enough that we have people on all the time. Pretty much like our general MV is.

Wii would like to play. And by wii... I mean me. But, I'm pretty strapped for time, so I won't be around all that much. Still, I'd love to have such a setting to play in when I can be on.

Yes! Sounds really fun. And it won't move at a snail's pace either. I'm guessing that since individual players wouldn't always be around, their characters would be resting during offline times?

That's what it looks like. Assumed to be doing normal things like holding jobs, resting, remaining idle. This way people can come and go as they please ^^.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. It's vaguely reminiscent of AOL's RhyDin, though more interesting and all around better organized. I'm most definitely interested. EST time zone, reporting in! Best of luck to you.

Her good point was her eyes. They were dark, but her long lashes made them seem black, and she looked at you frankly, with a sort of fearless candour."

Maybe it's just me, but... does the idea of an open high fantasy RP bring back to mind YIM chat golden days, anybody?

At any rate, keep us posted. I mean, I don't want to rush creating a whole world, races, politics, cultures, etc...but don't let this one die!

I'm not letting it die at all ^^. Making sure we have enough interest first. This one will take some time. And of course the distraction of Skyrim doesn't help either xD

^ Truth.

Sixteen characters in and I've yet to speak to the greybeards.

On the note of the traditional fantasy though will there be any player lore, or must we rely solely on yours?

There would be plenty of mixed lore, but it seems this is not really gathering any interest that would be needed to maintain the setting.
