Too bad you missed the last grand tournament, jace. (If you like tournies you probably would have enjoyed it, all flaring egos aside)

Thanks Arrogance for posting here, please if you have advice or ideas don't hesitate to offer them. I am sure everyone here can glean something from you. Your record speaks for itself and I want those who do duel on RPG to learn how to do it properly so they have some modicum of success, especially if they get invited to a Grand Tourney in the future.

Guts, if I ever create a Tourny on here I'm going to get you to judge <3 We haven't had a chance to kill technocrats together yet, but I'm sure we will. If anything ever fucking happens over there.

Well good luck to both of you, what thread is it? I might mosey on over and read the happenings.

We actually haven't had the opportunity to fight against technocrats cause I've been slow, so my activity has suffered from other events (school, work).

I was just somewhat happy to see more people from animeleague utilize the hall of records I.e. Jace signing his first win onto there.

It adds something concrete to competition.

xxxxx saw his orbs of light explode. He thought it impossible until now, so xxxxx decided to step it up a notch. He had just been using normal light techniques. I will show this assassin why they call me Emperor of the light! xxxxx built up a massive orb of energy and propelled it into the sky about 50 feet. It started to catch fire and burned as hot as the sun. Suddenly blinding light filled the entire city, as if the sun where were the ball of energy now was. xxxxx then teleported himself a safe distance away.

xxxxx was snickering to himself, as soon as the assassin stepped within 300 yards of that orb, he would make it go supernova, destroying at least a quarter of the city. There was no way such a man could escape from that, no matter how skilled. He also hoped the blinding light would slow him down since he made it glow like the sun. Even one attuned to the light such as he had to somewhat squint otherwise his eyes would be overpowered.

Then xxxxx realized this man had an aptitude for escaping. So he created 6 barriers of superdense light, he stood on one that was horizontal. Another horizontal one formed above him. And four vertical ones, to the left and right, and front and back. To a observer it looked like a cube of light. xxxxx then made them spin, so they could also act as blades.

This is why I tend to stress logic in posts. A few things in this post trouble me. First the use of the power which produces a ball of light, then the sudden acceleration to 11000°F the surface temperature of the sun within the ball in a second or two. My second problem is there is no discussion of the effects of the intense heat other than a blinding flash of energy on the city itself. 11,000 degrees will melt everything.

My third issue is the supernova aspect, if it does go supernova the atmosphere of the planet will burn off killing everything in a matter of seconds followed by the rending of the planet itself. My fourth issue that the poster seems to be doing too much in this post, 1) create the orb and accelerate the temperature, 2) teleport away, 3) use another power.

What do you think? Oh and before you think I am picking on the poster, I am not. I am trying to get everyone to look at their posts and the effects that they are describing with a critical eye. The more grounded in logic you can make your post read, the more believable it will seem to the casual reader. Even using magic if you have a good basis for the effects the easier it is for the reader to accept thus maintaining the fiction you are creating.

Did the attack in the post before that one make sense?

I surmise you are referring to the attack by his opponent? The action in the post before flowed much better, made sense and showed an increase of power that allowed a reader to visualize the debris whirling as well as the great speed of the runner.

I didn't mention that sequence of actions because the poster made no mention of it, discarding the event, which for me broke the fiction and forced me to focus solely on his actions.

Collaborative writing is important in combat writing because you have to acknowledge and react to an opponents moves, regardless if they actually hit, work or affect you.

So again, what does anyone else have to say about the post? We are all here to learn and become more proficient in this type of writing. To do so we must be willing to accept and offer criticism that is both constructive and objective.

Well, I'll give my thoughts on it. The person, whomever he is, has some good visualization going on, but as you say, his logic is a bit flawed, as well as his portrayal of his character in this post. The part of him snickering threw me off a bit, as it seemed a bit comic book villianish. Back to the logic though.

In his situation it would have been more prudent to have the orb rise higher into the sky, and probably begin to rotate or gather power, not be ready to go super-nova at once. Also, I've noticed in several posts he states that things are impossible, first with the man not being able to see him, then that it will be impossible to stop or escape from an attack. Instead of saying that it is impossible, one should say that it should be almost impossible, and even then you would be stretching it.

But yeah, for an attack that is about to go super-nova, you will probably want to let it gather power to give it more credibility. Usually if you start making something big by making something small, it will be ignored until it's too late. That's all part of strategy: always think at least two posts ahead.

Just my two cents =D

I've been skimming through some of the character-sheets that have been posted here, in the battle arena section, and I noticed that they are very, very, very poorly made. Like piss-poor, with little to no elaboration on how most of their abilities work, or how powerful they actually are.

Normally, I don't like to nitpick like this, however, when it comes to engaging in fights, and a problem occurs pertaining to lack of clarity, or as to just how exactly an ability works, it's 9 out of 10 times requested by the user, that they take a look at their opponent's profile in order to gain a better grasp on what exactly is going on in said post.

My question is, what can be done to improve the quality of profiles? I notice that how well a profile is made, will often times reflect the Role-Players overall ability as a writer.

Now here are my two cents pertaining to this issue here. Keep in mind that I have not been fighting too much so you may disregard my opinions entirely or prove them dead wrong, whatever you wish. But these are my thoughts.

Now when you are making a character I agree, there can be a ton done with expanding a character's history, description or personality. Equipment and weapons even. The problem lies with powers and how the character uses his or her abilities if he has any. In my opinions, if you are creative enough, you can think of almost infinite ways to use those abilities. Take my character Freasin Lore. He can manipulate and generate ice. Which means he is able to slow down the water molecules in the air to a point where they freeze. He then collects them and shapes them into any form he may like. Within reason of course.

So far in one fight alone, he has created fog, made weapons out of ice, sent out beams of intense cold energy, created spikes of ice 6 feet tall, traveled on an ice slide, created an ice ramp to rebound from an attack, encased himself in a rolling ball of ice, covered the ground in ice which turned it into an ice rink, covered the aforementioned ice rink in 1 foot spikes, created balls of ice shards that when broken rained down a deadly ice shard shower and filled a projectile being thrown at him with ice making it brittle. Unfortunately, with some characters, the uses for their abilities is staggering and it would be impossible to describe each of those abilities in the character sheet.

Although for the other slots, I agree they could always be improved and deepened in quality.

The idea is to get a general feel as to what the ability is meant to do in a typical situation, which can very easily be elaborated on. Choosing not to go through that minimal effort is just plain laziness, and some sites actually require that you elaborate on your character's abilities otherwise, they'll get rejected. At least, that's how it is over on AL. I wouldn't mind taking their character-creation rubric and applying it here, because it's honestly one of the best I've ever seen, which I now use when creating any type of character in general.

Honestly I don't like that, I'll take a breif outline of a character and develop him as I go, I like how they end up better from that then when I try to plot out everything at the beginning and end up with a character I can barely use. You also end up with a more adaptable character, usually with a wider range of weaker abilities and more use of those abilities, or at least I do. Zurimono started out only as a brute white werewolf with a Zweihander, then he found the shield and tiger claws in roleplays. As the person didn't designate any abilities of the shield, simply stating it's "Magic" I started to develop it's moveset and history as I went through roleplays, turning what was just a hunk of magic metal into a sophisticated weapon.

With a rule that makes you start with complete characters I'd never have ended up with a character I love as much as him. He's probably by far my most developed character and easily my favourite :P

Ouch, AL. Well, here is my opinion on the whole character thing.

I would hate to see any of AL's rules and ways of doing things come here. It's way too 'Elitest' there for anything truly fun to go on. Oh, at first it would be cool, but after a while people that aren't very good at battling to begin with will get fed up and leave, and the only people left here to battle will be the same ones, over and over. Sure, having your bio's rejected may push you to try harder, but so will battling and having someone better than you give you tips, or help you in bio creation. I may not be making much sense, but one thing I've loved since coming here is the freedom that basically anyone that wants to fight simply has to create a thread, invite anyone or someone you know, and bam, instant battle.

Now then, the way I see things is this: It's up to who you are and who you are fighting as to what style and how involved the bio is. For instance, I'm fighting someone right now who has a very, very vague bio. Do I care? No. Why? Because I'm confident in my writing and know that whatever they pull from their vagueness, I'll have something there waiting. Then again, for the most part I'm a really easy going guy.

I think that if you want someone to have a bio really involved, say that in your challenging post and accept no less, as that is your preference. I remember back in the day bios were not nearly so detailed as they are today, and we had shitloads of fun. I mean, mine were always too long and much to detailed, as far as histories and such goes, but we never listed every single move we had. To do so is just limiting.

I do understand where you guys are coming from, but my stance on it is that if someone's bio doesn't meet your expectations, don't fight them. It's after all at your own discretion who you battle.

Does that make sense to anyone but me? lol.

Well AL is AL and RPG is RPG, Remaeus has a different idea of what role-players should be allowed to do and how they interact. Granted often times that ideal is missed, but that doesn't mean we don't try with the less stringent attitude.

@Alucroas, granted there are horribly bad even atrocious character sheets that people put up, mine included, but that is the beauty of RPG. Everyone is afforded the opportunity to role-play the way they want (within certain limits). Elaborate and detailed minutiae are not required. While I agree it can present problems, those people often don't find willing opponents.

As Jace stated fights are not mandatory and by looking over a sheet if you feel it is lacking in quality you don't have to duel that person.

Well I can see there has been some more advice thrown around. Here is my latest character and I am open to all opinions on them. PLEASE ADRESS MY NAME WHEN SAYING STUFF ABOUT MY CHARACTERS PLEASEEEEEE!!!! I saw something about characters and nothing about my 10-11 characters in which was hinted at reading. If no one did read them besides Skall I am sorry for the message. And what I ment by "besides Skall" was I already know you read them because you did give your opinion.
