LALAshesang, you're post (the one containing the above quote) was very interesting. You seem to be quite observant (and logical), to notice these inconsistencies. I actually chuckled throughout the entire post. Haha.

No matter what you say, a bad book isn't going to get the amount of hype this one has. There has to be something about it that's good or at least really appeals to it's target audience. I ordered Twilight a few days ago and I'm looking forward to it's arrival. I will read the book and see for myself, but honestly it seems right up my street. Vampires, romance etc. I love that sort of thing and I'm not afraid to admit that I don't mind clichéd endings. Not all books have to be dark and twisted and confusing to be brilliant. Look at Disney. Everything they do is the epitome of cliché, but its one of the biggest companies in the world. So go ahead and love Twilight all you want :) I got sick of people dissing Harry Potter. So I'm not going to just sit back and let them do the same to Twilight.

OMG!!!
I am now like in love with you! You must read the series, everyone in Wayland Michigan either read it or got a playbyplay by friends, we all love it, the one kid that bashed it is now in his own little corner hiding from some of the more hyped up people. I am not the worst. OMG I am also going to Forks for my birthday with six of my friends so that I can look fro Edward and the Cullens, we are hardcore fans. We are so in love we fight over who gets who. I love this series. I Love the plot, and I love the characters. At least she had the courage to do something with such a contraversal subject. Besides she obviously knew something in the first book Bells looks up info on the vampires on the internet. Then brings up that information throughout the book. Obviously she may not have all of it down but she made a good book and hell I love the fucking messed up wholed plot. And just so you know it isn't my holy grail it is my fucking Bible. I have the copies at my house in a bible case. I am atheist, it was fun to watch my parents faces. May reason why I did it. But oh fucking well. I love the books and the characters and the plot. That should be all i am going to say for the day. Until tomorrow. OR LATER!!!!!  :( 8) :?

Well, My real problem with the having a child thing is that the fauther has been dead for so long that his reproductive orgin would have stopped prodcuing their 'baby Jucie' as I shall call it for the sake of everyone. That and his body is filled with deadly Vampier Venom apperently (( Again...seriously? )) so post intercores she should have died.

And the second of all; To get a different view on something you don't do it threw plot holes. That's seems lazy as fuck to me. She wrote the books long enough to have room fill up those plot holes; but instead she just right up ignores them as do a vast majority of their fans. Once again; I'm not dissing this book or the writer. It seems to me she wrote something then had a differen't idea but didn't bother to go back and try to rewrite it to fit with the story; which would probable be why she wrote them so fast. I just don't find it good or orriginal.

I'm fine with her taking the romance with a clutzy girl and making it 'orriginal' (( Even if this book and plot is anything but )) but she could have done something so much more interesting if that what she was going for! Like instead made the vampire a shy girl who could be the clutz and falls inlove with a human boy; or make The vampire shy and the girl has to win him over. But the Vampier boy who is fucking 'Perfect yet is a compleat Emotional Reck' and a 'Clutzy girl with a crapy life loves him no maters what' sounds like the plot of a fan fick about Sakura and Sasuke.

Twilight is truly the most stupid book I have ever heard of. I heard about it and hated it right away. GLOWING vampires how is that creative it is like a REALY crappy dream that you wake up from wanting to claw your eyes out just to stop seeing the images. The author of this series needs to quit writing and find a real job.

Well this author made more money than any author at the moment, other than the HP series. She is also going to most likely get award if the movies go good. SO far she is one of the best literary minds of our time. THe books may have plot problems but at least she makes it about our age so we can become in love that much more.

I think this may be a good thread to ask this, since I don't want to go directly to the source of all that is the interwebz, the dreaded 4chan. When /b/ is having a lovely day posting all the horrific things /b/ does, and suddenly pictures of furries start to appear, there is a very special phrase that can be used to drive off the menace: "Yiff in hell!" Yet, when RPers are having a lovely day posting all the detailed and well-written stuff they can, and their RP is invaded by weepy black-haired vampires and "slaves," we have no similar rallying cry. When my thread says "no vampires," that's what it means, and if you break that rule, I want to be able to make you aware of the magnitude of your error before I politely ask you to leave. I'm not discriminating against vampires or the people that play them; I just don't want them in my RPs. Just like "Yiff in hell" means, essentially, "go find a furry site," so too would this phrase mean "go play in a Twilight thread." inb4 not your personal army; I'm not asking everyone to do this, just to help me come up with an appropriate expression.

tl;dr: Help me come up with an emo vampire analogue of "Yiff in hell."

Writing a popular book does not make you one of the 'best literary minds of our time'. She wrote a book geared to a massive population of people about a Romance that was somewhat over emotional and angsty at points and angst happens to be in at the moment though most people won't admit it. Playing to the crowd doesn't make you a brilliant writer. This book will never be studied in schools, never be considered brilliant and insightful (( as very few books with fantasy elements are )), and all it will be remembered for in about five years from now is making some one a lot of money. Don't go around saying in such a matter of fact manner that she is a amazing writer to try and sway those that bash the book and author you like. I wouldn't be quoting you right now if you had said 'I think she is one of the best literary minds of our time' cause that is an opinion and not a statement of fact. That is the only reason I argue with Twilight fans. In most circumstances I would keep my opinion to myself. But you guys don't act like it's an opinion, you say things like that like they are infallible facts. Perhaps that is not how you intended it to sound but that’s really what it looks like.

If you want a good Vampire romance novel that works in our time period that I found shockingly original; go read True Blood.

The sparkling was because it is a romance so that they can fall in love and be together for more of the time. The whole reproduction thing the point is a vampire body cannot change. So a female body cannot grow to occupy a baby but a male vampire still has the ability, he just can't get a ........ yeah......... But anyway. She made a lot of the other plot wholes because she wanted teh world to take a new view on the whole idea. She thought a little romance with a clutz of a girl would be fun and creative. She basically took the vampire idea and made it a very original peice. Which I give her cudos for. that was a pretty good idea.

The anti-fangirl shotgun will work just as well on you, your claimed maleness only gives me a better place to aim at.

Now, lets correct the spelling mistakes so I can read your post without laughing.

indepth: its two words, in depth not indepth. Like “a lot” this expression consists of two words often mistaken for one. The first, adjectival, use of the phrase given above is commonly hyphenated, which may lead some people to splice the words even more closely together. “Indepth” is usually used as an adverb by people of limited vocabulary who would be better off saying “profoundly” or “thoroughly.” Some of them go so far as to say that they have studied a subject “indepthly.” Avoid this one if you don’t want to be snickered at.

teh: I'll give you this one, I mess up the spelling of the when I type fast too.

clutz: I think you were looking for klutz.

peice: I think this is just another case of letter misplacement, like teh. No points taken away.

cudos
: I think you were looking for Kudos, which is from the Greek word κῦδος , which means fame

Oh. I was going to correct a statement here and then saw that someone else had done it for me.

I have one major gripe with the idea that "best-selling" means literary genius. I'd also like to mention that while JK Rowling has made a ridiculous amount of money off the Potter books (of which I'm a major fan, especially of Snape and the Malfoy family), I wouldn't even rate her as one of the best literary authors.

If Smeyer is such a brilliant writer, why isn't The Host as popular as the Twilight series? Why doesn't THAT book get as much hype?

The answer is: Smeyer is not a good writer, and all her fans want to hear about are sparkly vampires that can reproduce.
We'd be so less fragile
If we're made from metal
And our hearts from iron
And our minds from steel.
But if we built an armor
For our tender bodies
Could we love each other?
Would we start to feel?

Yes. I actually read The Host not long after it came out into stores. And to tell the truth - the writing style hasn't changed one bit. It's so boring, that I didn't even bother to remember any aspect of it. Basically, it's just a carbon-copy of the Uglies series squashed into one book with some new people and a slightly different setting and plot line.

M friend actually read The Host and said it was pretty good. Knowing Twilight was going to suck, in my opinion, I didn't go near the book. Luckily, my friend has made better reading choices, such as reading Cirque Du Freak, th Demonata series, and the series of books starring Ender Wiggin by Orson cott Card. Great books, every one. All the same, I don't dislike people who read Twilight ad like it. Everyone has the right to like what they want, even if is disliked by many. I wanted to throw that last bit in there to show that I see both sides of the issue.

The reason the fans love the writing is because of the fact that it tell us what is in her mind where no one else can get into, sure in other books it does the same thing but in this instance it makes it so you can only know what she knows which makes the parts when he runs away, when he gets into a fight and such things that much better, because you know what is going on with her but Edward is a never ending wonder, that is why she is planning on coming out with a series over with Edward as the main character. I read the first chapter it is pretty cool to listen to a vampire think about killing a whole class of humans in less than fifteen seconds, trust me. Also sure I misspell a lot when typing fast and the words were not my first priority!!! She is a great writer, she may not be the best, but she has won many people over with one series, she has only written a few books,<not sure how many> but my friends introduced me to her writing with this series. Besides what writer doesn't have bad books! She is a pretty knew writer so that could be why she is not that good. She is a brilliant writer otherwise there wouldn't be so much hype, and thier wouldn't be a movie being put into production so fast. The hype is one way to show that this is going to have a lot of hype, fame, and money behind it. If you have a lot of money all she has to do is get help. She is pretty open to critism on her website I believe.... I haven't checked in a little over a month though.........

11. Iron & Wine — Flightless Bird, American Mouth
12. Carter Burwell — Bella's Lullaby

This is me with the humans—who don't get enough love—and director Catherine Hardwicke in the "Forks" high school cafeteria. I got to watch the filming of several key lunch scenes, and see how amazingly well the actors were portraying those human characters. Watching them be Mike and Eric and Jessica and Angela and Tyler made it feel strangely like it all might just be real—which was a crazy feeling. So the humans get two thumbs up from me. And Greg (Tyler) wants us all to know that Bella would definitely choose a guy with an awesome van over some vampire.
Funny story: on April first, I got to watch as they shot Bella's first scene in the hospital (after the above mentioned van careened into her) with Charlie (Billy Burke) and Carlisle (Peter Facinelli). Between takes, Peter came back to the monitors where I was hanging out with Nikki Reed (Rosalie), and producers Greg Mooradian and Gillian Bohrer. Nikki and I were talking about how Kellan Lutz (Emmett) kept eating during the Cullen's cafeteria scenes (Kellan is always hungry) and how the editors would have to cut around that. Greg asked the question many of you have asked: what happens to food eaten by a vampire? (He referenced the infamous bite of pizza Edward takes in the book.) I explained the icky truth—they eventually have to cough it back up. Peter was listening to all of this very quietly, and then he and I had the following conversation (I'm paraphrasing, because I don't have a vampire's perfect recall):
PETER: So vampires would never eat food, unless they are trying to fool humans? They would never eat at home?
ME: No, of course not.
PETER: Huh.
ME: Why do you ask?
PETER: Well...when we were filming one of the scenes in the Cullen house, Esme brought me a bowl of Raisin Bran. I was eating it through the whole scene. I don't think they could cut around it, because I was chewing through some of my lines... I guess that wouldn't make a ton of sense for Carlisle to do, though, would it?
ME: (slightly panicky) Er, no. It really wouldn't.
PETER: Oh, well.
ME:
PETER: And also, April Fool's.
(The part I can't convey here is how convincing he was. Peter is, after all, an excellent actor. He got Kristen/Bella at dinner, too, so I wasn't the only one.)
6 fun facts from the set:
1) While watching the playback from a very intense scene with Bella and Edward, the girl next to me literally slid right out of her chair—I think her bones melted. She also may have stopped breathing for a few seconds, too. I know I did.
2) Mike Welch can dance.
3) Hugging Kellan Lutz is the closest you can get to hugging a vampire; he is made of granite. (But please do not try to hug Kellan without his permission. Thank you.)
4) Portland is too cold. For anyone. But especially for Arizonans.
5) Jackson Rathbone can really play the guitar. Our taste in music is not exactly the same, but we found common ground with Radiohead's Creep, with which he then serenaded me.
6) As you might guess, I do a lot of internal swooning on the set. However, I have an excellent poker face.
To conclude, I would like to make a few comments about Rob and Kristen, who are the true heart of this movie. First, they are both amazing actors. Second, they are channeling Edward and Bella like nobody's business. Third, you might want to bring a paper bag to the movie, because their on-screen chemistry may cause hyperventilation. That is all.

I think that's my major issue with Twilight. You'd think if this guy's supposed to be hot, they'd actually use a hot actor. But NOooo, we have to go for Edward the Horse-faced boy. With a brow like a neanderthal.

And that was just me being snarky. My apologies.

1) The fact that there's a movie being made has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of the book in question nowadays; the Hollywood threshold is simply number of copies sold. Look at Eragon, City of Ember, etc; there's a couple decent things about the books, but all in all they're nothing special. However, since they hit just enough of a chord with their target audience, a shit-ton of them get bought, somebody in Hollywood says "Hmm...if we make a movie out of this, hordes of fangirls will descend upon us and give us all their money." That's how movies get made from books now.
2) As has already been more or less proven here, the number of copies sold, languages sold in, et cetera also has little of nothing to do with literary quality. Don't get me wrong: I am ALL about making money off one's ideas. I don't think that just because a book sells well, it's not good. However, the reverse is also true: just because a book sells well, that doesn't make it good.
3) Personally, I don't take issue with Twilight itself (although it's pretty awful) so much as I do with the entire market for fantasy fiction nowadays. Whether it's Twilight with vampires, Eragon with high fantasy, RPG-universe novels, or anything else, there's so few original plots, even fewer original characters, and barely ANY authors who even bother to disguise that they're just writing an almost-verbatim copy of what has gone before. It's one thing to have influences in your writing--I know I have them--but you can at least try to take a couple of your favorite elements, change others, and leave some out entirely, so that it's not so obvious that you can't come up with anything of your own. This is why I mostly read nonfiction now.
