Under the Lake (King Arthur) OOC ( )

Postby daughterofdon on Wed May 14, 2008 2:03 pm

The domain beneath the lake is not often described in the Arthurian legends. The mistress of this underwater kingdom, Vivienne, the Lady of the Lake, is a powerful water fay. The lake only serves as a barrier between medieval Britian and Vivienne's palace. Those who are welcome can take a step into the water and almost instantly find themselves in the lake realm, which is much like dry land. Those who are not welcome will meet their death by drowning.

Vivienne has an eye for potential heroes. The mythical sword, Excalibur, lies in her charge to grant to a noble king. Even more precious to her, though, was a baby boy she espied one day being craddled by his mother, Helaine.

"Oh, Galahad," Helaine wept. She was sitting at the edge of the lake. Vivienne peered at the young mother from the eyes of a fish near the surface of the water. The poor girl--she was so young! Vivienne looked into her past--she was a queen, and her husband, King Ban of Benoic, had died in battle only days before. But Vivienne wasn't so interested in the girl. She considered the infant prince for a moment. She could feel quite a lot of charisma in him, but she was terribly bored by princes. But when she peered into his future, she saw that he was going to be no prince--there was blood in his future. He was going to be a knight. But his future was still unformed as yet. Fate had time to grab him.

She looked at the mother again--her sanity was unraveling. The baby was hungry and she wasn't feeding him. She didn't even look at the baby. Her head was in her hands and she was growing more and more hysterical. "Galahad, please stop crying! Please!"

Helaine set the baby on the grass and moved away from him, covering her ears. But it was her own wild sobs that provided most of the noise. The baby only whimpered, his limbs reaching out for his mother.

"No, don't you dare leave that baby," Vivienne muttered as Helaine stood and walked away from her son. "He has the makings of greatness--he can't be left to die!"

Vivienne was so enraged that she rose out of the water, waded to shore and grabbed the infant in her arms. Then she just as quickly disappeared back into the lake. Helaine was oblivious until she heard that his tiny cries had ceased. She turned around. "Galahad?" But Vivienne didn't stay to hear Helaine's wild shrieks when she realized that her only son had disappeared.

The dwellers of the lake realm were very interested in the mortal baby Vivienne brought into her chamber that day. There had been other humans that would occassionally be brought in for amusement, but never an infant. Vivienne fed him from her own breast, for she had recently given birth to a baby boy named Mabuz. But this new baby quickly became her favorite. After Mabuz was weaned, she gave him to her attendants to take care of. She kept the mortal baby for herself.

While she was feeding him, she reflected on what to name him. Galahad was not suitable at all for him. But what of his middle name, Lancelot? She liked it so much, she decided to keep it. His full name would be Lancelot du Lac. But she kept his true identity and ancestry a secret, even to Lancelot himself. She didn't even let him know his given name, but only referred to him as her ward or her son.

(The role-play will take place when Lancelot is 17, being prepared by Vivienne to enter Arthur's court. I will write for Vivienne and Lancelot. All other characters are welcome to be adopted, including:

-Mabuz, Vivienne's son and Lancelot's foster-brother (taken by ArtFreakAngel)
-Iweret, Vivienne's enemy and Lord of the Castle of death

Original characters are also welcome. These can include water-nymphs that dwell beneath the lake. Vivienne rules over a whole court of mermaids and fey people. Lancelot also needs instructors and mentors to teach him the skills of knighthood: jousting, swordsmanship, horsemanship, falconry, the code of chivalry and courtly manners.)

Name: Vivienne
Title/role: Lady of the Lake
Age: 1,296 (but she appears to be in her 30s)
Gender: Female
Race: Fey
Appearance: Lovely and ethereal, with dark hair and white robes made of samite. Her skin is shiny and a little bit greenish.
Abilities: Knowledge of the past and future, ability to charm weapons, instant transportation through any body of water, sight through any body of water

Name: Lancelot
Title/role: Ward of the Lady of the Lake
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Fairly normal looking, with dark hair and eyes and of a well-knit physique. He wears the standard medieval attire of a knight in training. He is attractive, but more for his inner qualities.
Abilities: Very promising at all the skills of a knight. No magical abilities, however.

I was hoping I could be Mabuz.

Name: Mabuz
Title/role: The Son of "The Lady of the Lake"
Age: Barely eighteen
Gender: Male
Race: Fey
Appearence: Resembles his mother, Dark Hair, Gray Tunic, Similar Shiny Skin, He is self-trained at using a sword
Abilities: Can Sense Future Events

Hey, I hope this is good and I hope that I get the part.

P.S. If I get the part, can you pm me with a little more about Mabuz, if there is anything important.
I'm collecting moving avatars. If you have one, send it to me in a private message.

Postby Jadeling Hawkins on Wed May 14, 2008 7:11 pm

Oooooh this looks so interesting...may I join?

Name: Alanna "Alan" of Greensbury
Title/role: Wandering Squire
Age: Unknown, assumed young adult
Gender: Female (disguised as male)
Race: Human
Appearance: Dirty blond hair cropped short, kept in a small ponytail. Dark brown eyes that are heavily lidded, and an average complexion. Short of stature and wiry, but with finely tuned muscles from much practice with the broad sword. Most often wears rather ratty clothing, commoner atire such as a tunic, leggings, and leather shoes. Carries a blade that appears far too large for her to wield at her hip, and carries all of her worldly belongings in a single sack on her back. In this sack is her surcoat, which she chooses not to wear for personal reasons. Though she claims the title of squire, she has no knight that she is serving (which one may assume to be part of the reason that she is not yet a knight herself). When she began parading as a man is unknown, except to her, but it was surely before she began her quest in knighthood.

Please let me know if there are any problems with this character, and I will gladly alter.

I like the concept. I can play the following character or I can play another knight, I leave it up to you to decide if I am accepted as to which role you require.

Name: Gwrtheyrn ap Brynmor
Role: Druid
Age: 39
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: A tall, lean man with a long beard and nutmeg colored hair. Blue-silver eyes peer from under thick brows. The blue dye stained into his face in wide swatches and the blue tattoos swirling around his wrists, forearms and legs. Wears terra verte robes and carries an oak staff festooned with silver bells.
Abilites: Gwrtheryn is one of the last druids to roam the land, the greatest being Merlin, however others still offer their aid and knowledge of the old ways to those who seek it.

Or one of my knights (I am actually very adept at playing a medieval knight)

Quinn Balfour
Early to mid-twenties
Prefers to use the war sword and shield but is versed in most martial weapons.

Quinn Balfour is a tall man, standing a shade over six-feet four inches in height. Deep chestnut colored hair falls down along his shoulders and cascades over the down his back terminating mid shoulder blade. Quinn is a warrior, his powerful and lean frame denotes years of hard earned confidence and skill as a knight in the far desert Holy Lands.
Deep set eyes brood from under thick eyebrows and those deep set eyes a brilliant silver-blue like a thunderbolt seem to glow with deep passions.
The angular face and square jaw windblown and tawny from years under a merciless sun complete the visage of the knight.
Wearing chain armor and a hooded tunic, a wide double wrapped sword belt circles his hips, the war sword hanging from it. A footman’s mace also hangs from the belt, a heater rests upon his left arm. Quinn wears a great helm.

Hey, I was wondering, if nobody's playing Iweret, can he just be an NPC? I only ask because he is very important to my character.

Since I'm new to roleplaying, I don't know what happens with a NPC--a non-player character, right? If no one plays him--is he only mentioned about? I could play for him if he is important, if you guys don't mind me having three characters. You might want to pm me about what you want to happen with him.

Here's a notice to potential players: you do not have to be familiar with the legends of King Arthur to play. I just ask that you make up an original character instead of grabbing a main legendary figure, like Morgan Le Fay or Queen Guinevere. I'll be guiding Lancelot and Vivienne in my way of interpreting the legends, but I'm open to deviation!

And I'm not a stickler for true historical accuracy, just no blaring anachronisms. There's one thing to keep in find about armor, though--I think we should stick to 12th century armor at the latest. That means, no elaborate full-plate armor with helmets that have movable visors. Think Monty Python and the Holy Grail (minus the silliness), not Excalibur (great movie, though, and true to the legends): surcoats over mail (the complete mail gown is called a hauberk), and maybe a simple helm. I know it sucks--I love the knights in shining armor as much any anyone, but it is a blaring anachronism.

Daughterofdon are you directing you comment about armor at me? Because I have not mentioned any armor that is out of historical accuracy. Since I apparently am the only one wearing armor I have to assume you are speaking to me. If you wish I can become very very technical on my armor and weaponry which currently is historically accurate. I am wearing chain mail I have not bothered to detail any of the clothes underneath nor any of my other knightly accoutrement's, other than my great helm. I have made no glaring anachronism, if you somehow feel I have point it out and we can have a historical debate on the weapons and armor used by the fighting class of Europe.

Postby Kohananinja on Sat May 17, 2008 10:25 pm

Name: Mennah
Title/role: student
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Half Fey
Appearance: long aburn hair with pale green eyes. Usually dresses tomboyish, and only wears formal dresses when forced into parties with important people, of fey.
Abilities: Archery (very skilled with a bow and is her hobby), has premonishions of things not yet come to pass, and is an impath(can since people's emotions).
Side note: Mennah is the daughter of a knight and a Fey of the Lake's court, who sadded died giveing birth. Her father has never hidden the fact she was half fey, but Mennah has never fully embraced her fey side, and resents her powers of premonition, finding them inconvient and some times painful. Being raised by a man of armes Mennah has never really embrassed her feminin side ether, another challenge she faces when she comes to the lake. Mennah only came to the lake for one reason, because it was her mother's dieing wish she learn at least some fey magic from the lake when she came of age, and so she had.

I'm very sorry that my comment about armour was thought to be criticism. It wasn't directed at anyone currently playing. Skallagrim's description of armour is a perfect example for you all to follow.

Kohananinja, thanks for joining. I'm glad we have another fey in the mix. Enter whenever you please.

Re: Under the Lake (King Arthur) OOC ( )

Postby Protoman X on Mon May 19, 2008 12:16 am

Name: Roryn
Title/role: None
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: A man wearing a woodland tunic and leggings. Fur boots on his feet, leather gloves on his hands. His hair was long and unattended, sometimes tied into a sloppy ponytail. His eyes are dark green. On his back is a quiver of arrows and simple bow. Under the quiver is a buckler and a shortsword is kept at his left hip. Hidden in each boot is a dagger.
Abilities: An excellent marksman and average swordsmanship, Roryn is everything you'd expect of a woodsman in terms of survival and herbal knowledge and skills. He can also carve meat and prepare it for meals as well. Aside from this, he seems to have a mysterious connection to the forests and its creatures. He seems to be able to listen to the woods, and thus knows their secrets.
History: He wasn't always called Roryn. Once, his name was Rothwyn, a squire with every making to become a great knight. But, for untold reasons, he gave up that life, and took to living in the forests, developing the skills he currently possesses. Now he simply wanders the woodlands, and opposes any who would cut down their magnificent trees.

Sir Iweret is a going to be a NPC, but I'm providing a profile for him.

Name: Iweret
Title/role: Lord of the Castle of Death
Age: 41
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:
He is a handsome knight, but quite short for a man. His hair is completely gray, but he has few wrinkles on his face. When he is suited with his armour, he wears a black surcoat.
History:
He was born as a human man with no magical capabilities. His family had enough wealth to train him as a knight. Once he was knighted, he wandered the countryside, searching for adventures. He came upon the lake. He doesn't have much natural talent in combat, so he was attracted to Vivienne's ability to charm weapons. While he was staying under the lake, Vivienne invited him to her bed--for he was a very handsome knight. She conceived Mabuz. When Iweret attempted to steal Excalibur, she expelled him from the lake. He annexed a nearby fortress, which he named the Castle of Death. He has since been attempting to find a way back into the lake and force Vivienne to submit to him. He has seeked out enchanters and ill-meaning feys to teach him magic, and has gained some powers and insight that way--such as the knowledge that Mabuz is his son and the ability to speak to Mabuz using telepathy.

Yeah, sorry to put Alanna in a pickle. But she's dealt with this kind of stuff before, right? Maybe she could dress like a girl (for a short time) and use the women's bath.

Then there's another possibility--do you want her to be found out?
