Devon glanced up, eyes drifting from the papers he had been reviewing to survey the filling classroom. He'd offhandedly waved the students to the desks before, but now he gifted them with his gaze, a piercing look that he hoped would be seen as measuring potential. Slowly, he placed the papers to the desk with deliberation, rising to stand before the small student body before him. Taking a breath, the teacher begun.

"Most teacher's in this school would bid you good morning and a welcome to the school on your first day." Devon's laconic drawl masked the excitement he felt, it was not so much the prospect of teaching students, but the opportunity to find the prodigies, separate the weeds from the grain. "I am not one of those teachers. Though my name matters not, as I am merely the portal through which you will discover your talents in full, protocol dictates that I tell you. Devon Remara, though I would prefer just Professor Devon."

His dark eyes swept the classroom, and he realized that his cigarette still dangled from his lips. He shrugged off the mistake, perhaps it would help the students feel closer to him, so he could better get a taste of their power. Gravekeeper lifted from his shoulder, flying to roost on a beast's mounted head on the other side of the classroom, uttering a single harsh caw. A smile touched Devon's lips, and he continued.

"You are here to learn the nuances of the Dark Arts. A powerful and violent branch of magic, it is nonetheless a risk to the user, full of complex and dangerous rites, incantations, and other risks. But, when mastered properly..." It was time for a bit of show, and the teacher whirled suddenly, eyes blazing with power as he spoke the words of a spell. Dark fire exploded from his outstretched hand, sailing across the room over the students heads to consume a training dummy. "One holds a formidable power."

Devon made his way around the large desk, descending the slight platform to stand on common ground with those before him. Folding his arms across his chest, he spoke once more. "Any questions?"

Allison jumped when the door flew open, immediately focusing all of her attention on the cause. She stared blankly at the girl, who had practically flown into the room, for a few seconds, blinked, and then burst into laughter.

Cruel, perhaps, to laugh at the other's misfortune, but that was human nature. And besides, that girl deserved it. Judging by the way the door opened, she probably rammed into it with all her weight. That action was made even more ridiculous by the fact that the door had a very large and very noticeable handle.

Not even bothering to stifle her laughter, not that she thought it in any way possible, she left her desk and walked swiftly to the door. "Hey, you okay?" She asked, her voice and shoulders shaking from hysterical amusement.

Silence. Dead silence. Mckenna Linford, age 15, found herself in a classroom devoid of sound with all eyes focused on her. It was her fault, afterall. Her grand entrance into the classroom for her first day of school at the University of Magic was definitely not how she had imagined it. There wasn't a sound in the room and Mckenna found herself standing there in front of everyone, frozen.

'How did this happen?! Aghh! Whymewhymewhyme?!'

The silence in the room was killing her. It sucked out all of the life inside of her and she found herself unable to move or speak or breathe. At least until something shattered the unbearable quietness. Laughter. Her body began to unstick, her voice came back to her, and a relieved breath of air escaped her lips. At the sound of another girl's hysterical laughter the other students lost interest and returned to their pre-class activities. Mckenna was saved.

Her savior approached her, "Hey, you okay?"

For a moment, she stared blankly at the laughing girl before joining her in her revelry, "Yeah, I'm fine!"

Mckenna smiled at the stranger with approval, "Thank goodness you laughed when you did! Everything was so quiet! And everyone was so serious! I thought that I'd done something horrible... they didn't look happy at all," her words came out hastily and rushed, as if all of it was one sentence and the words were mashed together.

Calming down and relaxing her breathing, the excited girl controlled herself, "Haa... What I meant to say was thanks. I really didn't want people's first impression of me to be the crazy girl who came flying into the classroom and froze."

At that point, a man, who Mckenna assumed to be the teacher of the class, rose from his desk, and Mckenna followed her new acquaintance to a seat.

"My name's Mckenna, by the way. Mckenna Linford," she added as they sat down, "A totally average 15 year-old girl. Nice to meet ya."

Mckenna flew backwards in her chair as the professor's hand suddenly burst into dark flames. Biting her tongue to hold back a scream, she observed it. She'd never seen anyone using magic like this before. She'd seen the vortex that pulled her into this place and seen a few people cast minor spells to brighten a room or levitate a nearby book, but never had she seen this.

'Could I do that too?' she wondered in shock.

She looked at Allison sitting next to her and whispered with excitement, "Have you ever seen anything like this before?"

Eliza rose her hand and asked "Sir, what is the Dark Arts really you know is there a defenition or something?"
There's always
A little truth behind every
"Just kidding,"
A little knowledge behind every
"I don't know,"
A little emotion behind every
"I don't care,"
And a little pain behind every
"It's okay."

Patchouli already had a small binder out, bound in black leather with very peculiar symbols that vaguely resembled magical sigils engraved upon the cover. She removed the pencil from behind the small crescent moon pin on her hat and began writing a few small notes in her book, particularly. What words he said and in what language along with her thoughts. 'Dark arts seems to be more powerful then I thought and seems to have, at least a small root anyway, in elemental principles. This spell seems to be a corruption of the basic element fire for added damage. As such it is possible that dark magic is the combination of corruption and a different style of magic. More study is required.'

She placed the pen into the binding and slowly shut it so as not to be loud awaiting his next instructions. She didn't pay much attention to the students at this point and considered giving the spell a try her self but that might give her position away. The teacher had asked for questions, she could actually ask some, it actually took her a moment to process that information as such chances to get direct answers over magic rarely came. And so she voiced her question. "Sensei, what exactly is the power source for Dark Arts, that spell you just cast appeared more like a corrupted Fire Ball, is Dark Arts the control over such corruption?"

And with her last breath, her last wish, did she set upon them the blazing ball of fire.
I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body, and fire is my blood. I have created over a thousand blades. Unknown to death, nor known to life, have withstood pain to create many weapons. Yet those hands will never hold anything. So as I pray,

Allison stared at the teacher, Professor Devon, with something similar to awe. "Holy crap..." She whispered in amazement, turning in her chair to face what used to be a training dummy. Perhaps it was simply imagination, but she could still fear the power in the air above her.

"Have you ever seen anything like this before?", McKenna asked, bringing her attention back.

"Nope, it's so cool! Oh... and I'm Allison." She replied in hushed tones, her eyes brimming with excitement. She had not wished to go to that class in the beginning, but seeing such power... if she could even hope to be able to use such an ability, she would gladly attend all her classes.

However, she was brought back down to earth when two other girls asked questions. The first question wasn't all that extraordinary, granted, Allison herself wouldn't have thought of it after such a demonstration...

If it weren't for McKenna, she'd still be staring at the poor, poor dummy.

But the other girl, talking about corruption or something, well, Allison thought that was great. She wouldn't have ever thought of that. It made Allison wish to befriend her, if only to recieve help with her various courses.
