Humans are a strange species, aren't they? In all of the history of the earth, the part that includes humans is minute. If you were to compare this history to the length of your arms, spread straight out, with it beginning at the fingertips of one hand and ending at the present, the fingertips of the other, you'd find that humans play a very tiny role. If you were to take a nail file and give one brush to the furthest nail of that hand, you would erase human existance completely. They are frail, they are fragile. Yet, in spite of all of this, they persist in their self-created importance. They build monuments, cities, fill books upon books with their history, their achievements, their victories. They are so very ignorant.
In spite of all of their technology, their sciences, their knowledge, they are so very naive. I say this because even as they live and go about their lives, a war is raging. If it didn't involve them, their ignorance would be understandable. But it does. Their kind have been casualities: their children, their friends, their parents. Mangled corpses found wrecked beyond recognition, bodies drained dry of all of their blood, or torn into a completely unrecognizable heap of meat and bone. None of the cases were ever solved. They got marked off as cold cases, left to collect dust on the back shelves. The body count continued to rise over first months, and then weeks. A serial killer, it was decided.
It took nearly half a year, but eventually, the flow of homicides began to slow, and then cease. People forgot. A year later, they're a distant memory for the general public; every once in a while, a new body will turn up, disturbingly like the others, but it'll be the only one in weeks upon weeks.
If they knew that the killers were the ones to thank, what would they say?
In the background, the story was unfolding from a very different perspective. Intertwined with, and seperated from, the peaceful society of the humans, the war was far from ceasing. The vampires, undead humans turned merciless hunters, are pitted bitterly against the werewolves, animalistic beasts that have lost their sense of humanity. In reality, both sides have completely forgotten how the fued began, but it's become so deeply ingrained in their instincts that reasons no longer matter. There's no set ending to this war; they know that they'll stop once every potential enemy is dead.
The vampires understood the need to keep their existance hidden. With technology advancing, humans would soon be more than capable of doing them great harm, even if currently they could do next to nothing. So they worked hard to try and keep the fued hidden from them, a background plot, something that would never spill over into their pleasant reality. However, the werewolves didn't care as much, and there were vampires who ignored this basic concept and killed openly. The bodies began to pile up, a result of carelessness on the parts of those involved in the war. Those of prestige within the vampire world, the royalty who oversaw them all, if you will, stepped in once the problem got out of hand, ending it swiftly and decisively. However, just as they had feared, the damage was done, although they didn't know it yet. The public was left unawares, but within the government suspicions boiled. Based on a few sightings, and the evidence left in the bodies, speculations were formed. A group was organized to confirm these suspicions. It took time, but after five months, a specimen was produced: a werewolf caught in the act of devouring a young man. Once the proof was there, action was immediate. A threat had been exposed, and had to be dealt with accordingly. A full organization was formed to hunt down these abominations, these monsters that threatened their way of life. They were to be quiet, quick, decisive. The public must never be allowed to know of it.
It took nearly a year of a lack of any success, although the group did find many of these creatures, time and time again. However, nothing seemed to work on them. The werewolves healed before any serious damage could be done unless they literally ripped them to pieces, and the strength of their bodies was such that this was incredibly difficult. As for the vampires, they were unable to even pierce their skin. It took a breach in security for them to realize what they needed; one unfortunate day, several of their "specimens" escaped, including a vampire, and a werewolf. When the two met, they immediately began to fight; to the amazement of the hunters, the wolf's claws and fangs were able to rip through the vampire's skin like it was nothing. Fortunately, the two slaughtered each other in the fight, wereas the others simply fled.
This led to a period of extensive testing and research. They learned that not only could werewolf claws and fangs rip through vampire skin, but the fangs of another vampire could as well. They began to develop weapons with samples they took from dead bodies; blades, bullets, anything they could. They found the substance to be incredibly strong, and even when fired out of a gun it maintained. They had a weapon now, and they put it to good use.
::Setting::
This is a modern-day fantasy setting. The main story will begin in a large city, with many large parks and the like scattered throughout. The setting will most likely change as the plot progresses.
::Roles::
There are three roles you can choose from in this roleplay; you can play as more than one character, so don't stress over the decision too much.
-Vampires-
These are the undead hunters forementioned above. They're humans who were turned by a bite from another vamp, and although they're definately different now, they maintain many of their human emotions and capacities. This means that they can be quite evil, or quite good, just as a human can. Vampires survive on blood; they can eat human food, much like a human could probably eat dirt if they have to. However, their bodies won't accept it for long, and they almost always end up throwing it back up; it tastes horrible to them. The blood they drink can be either animal or human. Human blood is preferred by most, because of it's highly preferable taste and smell. The blood they drink often influences how they develop; the blood-drinkers have generally been noted to be more vicious and animalistic. Their eye colour changes depending on two things: firstly, how long it's been since they last fed, and secondly, what type of blood they drink. Animal blood will cause gold eyes; human blood will cause red. As they get hungrier and hungrier, this colour darkens until it eventually turns black. All newborn vampires start with crimson eyes; it gradually turns gold, if they choose to feed on animals.
In terms of physical appearances, the most noticeable thing is their beauty. Like carnivorous flowers, which look and smell attractive to the insects that they feed on, vampires are graced with an unnatural beauty and a sweet scent that never seems to leave them, for the purpose, of course, of luring humans. They don't actually have "fangs", per say. However, their teeth are extremely strong and sharp, although by appearance they're perfectly normal. Their skin is perfectly white, like snow.
In terms of their abilities, they're mostly physical advantages they gained when they were turned. Their strength and speed are inhuman, and all of their senses are heightened. They no longer need to breathe (but the ones who interact with humans will often do it for appearance's sake). Their mouths produce a toxin much like humans produce saliva, and it looks much the same; it's this toxin that turns humans into vampires. If the human if left alive, the toxin will slowly spread through their body, starting at the point of contact. The person will be in excruciating pain, like a burning, for three days, until the change is complete, and the toxin finally stops their heart.
Vampires are immortal, and never age a day after they're changed.
-Werewolves-
Werewolves are the ancient result of black magic gone wrong. In ancient days, shamans communicated with the spirits of animals and nature through arts now lost to much of the world. Werewolves came about as the result of an experiment, in which one shaman attempted to take the spirit of a wolf into his own body, planning to overpower the other spirit and use it for battle. However, the experiment failed; instead of overcoming the spirit of the animal, the two fused into one, inside of the same body. The magic was alight in the man's veins, and it passed on through his children, spreading as his family line did.
The full moon has an effect on werewolves. It doesn't make them transform without wanting to (the transformation is more or less voluntary; they only can't control it when their instincts take over). However, it does influence how they act and feel. The spell that cursed the old shaman was performed on a night when the moon was full, when magic flowed strongest through the air. As the moon slowly grows, the animal part of the werewolves gains more and more influence; likewise, as it wanes, they become more human. During the new moon is when they're most like other humans. However, even when their animal part is only small, they're nothing like regular people. They're too animalistic, too instinctual. Humans are prey, vampires are enemies, and that's all their is to that. Although they're capable of emotions, they're basic and minor. Friendly, or even non-hostile, interaction with any other species, or even often with wolves from another pack, is unheard of.
In terms of appearances, when they're human, they look just like any other human would, save for a wildness about their face and movements. When they transform, they look much like greatly oversized wolves. The first werewolves sighted were believed to be small bears. Their fur colour is often decided by their hair colour. Werewolves are unnaturally strong and fast, and heal at an incredible rate. They have heightened senses, and are able to communicate with the other members of their packs with thoughts, but only when they're in their wolf bodies.
Wolves are also immortal.
-Humans - Regular-
This is obvious. The humans, mostly, don't know anything about the vampires or the werewolves, or the secret group bent on killing them off. Chances are, you're just a regular joe-blow who somehow got caught up in all of this.
Humans are the only race capable of magic; vampires can't use it because of their undead state. It hurts them, and rejects any attempts they make at using it. Werewolves are too animal to be able to make it work for them. Humans can use it, though it takes either a huge amount of practice, or an ability they were born with. Most of the magic available today has been adapted and altered from the magic used by the shamans in the old days.
-Humans - Hunters-
These are the members of the organization created by the government to destroy the monsters that have been threatening their society. They all have training, normally both from their lives before joining and from what they recieved afterwards. They're all completely aware of the situation taking place, though for the most part, the information they've recieved doesn't tell the whole story. The government wants as few people in on the reality of the issue as possible.
They utilize the adapted weaponry that uses the properties of the vampire fangs, and the werewolf fangs and claws, as well as conventional weaponry. Aside from this, they're just like any other human; they're also fully capable of magic.
::Rules::
Neccessary. Suck it up.
1. No godmodding, no making any damn Mary-Sues. Seriously.
2. Cursing and such is allowed, but keep it decent, please. You don't need to be dropping the f-bomb every couple seconds to get the point across that you're pissed.
3. Your character can die. I'm gonna let people judge this for themselves for the most part; be realistic about it, please. If you know you ought to be dead, then die. If I see people getting ridiculous about this, I'll step in and use my awesome GM powers on ya.
4. No auto-hitting or anything of the like. It's retarded.
5. Keep active. If you're gonna be gone for a while, PM me and say something. If you're gone for a week and don't post and you should be, and you haven't given an explanation, you'll be kicked out.
6. Keep OOC conversation to the damn OOC thread.
