Uploading Images for Characters ( )

Postby Noahfrodo on Sun Jan 01, 2012 4:57 pm

Help! I keep making my characters then editing them and putting in the image but it won't show up! This is driving me crazy because I forgot to upload the image earlier and it isn't saving. What am I doing wrong? The images are under 10 kb and 100 by 75 pixels.

Hey, Noah! A lot of users have been having this problem. The images are saving, from my experience - it just takes a day or so for them to show up.

This is a recent thing. We never used to have to wait this long. I assume it's something happening under-the-hood. We'll let you know if there are any changes. For now, however, patience seems to be the key!

Thanks!

This is usually a caching issue. Typically hitting ctrl-f5 will cause the image to load (sometimes I have to do it twice). When this fails, clearing your cache will generally fix it. I'm not really sure why it's not auto-updating without doing a hard refresh of the page.

I'm not having any luck with these solutions. Only, rather than being a character issue, mine is a location image issue. I've found that if I forget to upload an image and go back to do it, it doesn't load. But if I remember to upload it when I first create it, it works. Guess the lesson learned is to find pictures prior to creating things. :\

Okay, what you're describing is definitely a caching issue. When you make the character and don't upload a picture, it caches the default 'no image' image into your browser for faster loading of the page in the future. Then when you put a new image in, it's still displaying the previous image (for your specific browser) that was cached instead of updating the cache to the new image.

So... if you upload the image at the time of the character creation, it caches the image instead of the 'no image' and that's why you don't have the problem (though if you later try to change it, chances are it'll have the first image cached, and it won't update for you). I don't know why the fixes aren't working for you though. The ctrl-f5 should force your browsers cache to update.

Chances are if you give me the links to the character profiles, the correct images will display for me, but not you. If clearing your cache/cookies or hitting ctrl-f5 a few times doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Just spent three hours writing up what I hoped might be a great RP and now I can't give it an image so I am stuck with the lame no-image pic. I have tried several, all 100x100 and most 3 kb or under. How can uploading a simple image be so problematic in 2012...?

Did you attempt the method mention mentioned in this thread?

I fixed this problem by switching browsers. I had been using Google Chrome. When I tried it on Firefox the image uploaded fine. And, no the methods described above did not work.
