Veris & Veritas ( )

Postby Circ on Sun Feb 11, 2007 12:43 pm

Please post a description of your character or a link to your character site here.

Please Read!

Characters are to be kept within the following constraints, as is reasonable given the nature of the role-play, its history, and the environment:
- they must be human;*
- they must have a connection or intent to interact in Veritas or Verisimilitude;
- while artificial organs and limbs exist, they may not be a cyborg;
- they may not possession magic or superhuman abilities.

In summary, characters are just as human as you or I; they merely exist in a different environment and, as such, have cooler toys to play with. This is not to put a damper on anyone's creativity, but simply an effort to keep things within the construct of the role-play, which is an extension of current human civilization roughly 150-years into the future.

An * (asterisk) simply means that this is a flexible rule, but please come to me first before bending it.

Name: Affliction

Real Name: Jonathan McKlain Junior

Age: 26

Height: 5’9?

Weight: 150 lbs.

Eye color: Electric blue

Hair color: Black

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Appearance: Contrary to his partner’s fashion sense, Affliction maintains a more humble and simplistic approach to his apparel. A long sleeved button-up shirt, simple black slacks, and heavy black military boots. The shirt remains unbuttoned, a simple white t-shirt donned underneath it. Strapped in an X pattern across Affliction’s chest are two modified leather straps for carrying extra ammunition as well as different types of ammunition. He sports a leather belt with two holsters for his revolvers. They hold one on his left hip and one on his right in traditional Western style. Affliction’s skin is pale, and his build is quite athletic although more on the skinny side. He normally doesn’t contend with others in hand to hand, but has been known to be quite vicious in a fist brawl. His hair is loose, dark, and is quite often unkempt unless the occasion calls for him to style it. Even then only a light brushing is accomplished. Affliction’s eyes are a lifeless electric blue, but even then he uses these dead senses to strike terror into his victims. He is blind, obviously.

Equipment: Two Enfield Mark II Revolvers (Slightly modified for softer recoil) are Affliction’s weapon of choice. These two guns pack a serious punch, able to shred through a human being’s head easily. The hitman crafted the guns himself, but only uses rubber tipped bullets to avoid damaging the space station.

Attitude: Affliction usually maintains a very quiet demeanor, only speaking when necessary. He often acts as a communicator for his mute business accomplice Consequence. When he does speak, it is often directed towards people he utterly hates, at which point they realize his intent just by his words and those dull lifeless eyes that are staring through their souls. Only his most trusted allies are aware of the true Affliction. He refers to himself as two separate identities entirely, which may lead to suggest Dissociate Identity Disorder (Split personality disorder). On one part he is Jonathan McKlain, a level headed, calm, and often kind individual. On the other hand, Affliction is a cold, calculating, malicious personality whose sole purpose is to kill his mark, get paid, and be done with the contract.

History: Jonathan McKlain Jr. was born on November 29th, 2106 to Jonathan McKlain Sr. and Marsha McKlain in the city Veritas. The baby’s father worked at a scrap metal processing plant, and his mother worked as a secretary at a pharmaceutical company called Tetro Inc.

Despite the squeeze of high taxes the Mafioso, and Jonathan being born without sight, he enjoyed a happy childhood, and his parents pinched pennies carefully to send him to a small private school for the blind and deaf where he would not be judged by his handicap. There he made perfect grades, and graduated at the age of 16 with honors. He received a full scholarship to the Advanced Science and Mathematics Institute at The University of Veritas. He accepted, and remained there for 3 years, studying physics, chemistry, advanced science, human anatomy, aerospace, and psychology. It was difficult for Jonathan because of his blindness, but he managed to make perfect scores, and graduated at the ripe age of 19.

With his future lying solely in his hands, Jonathan considered his many options. Even though he was blind, many companies offered him jobs because of his excellent performance in the university, but he declined them all. He decided to take a year long vacation to Verisimilitude, where he celebrated his 20th birthday alone.

Meanwhile, back in Veritas, things were not going so well for Jonathan’s father and mother. The Mafioso was putting a heavy squeeze on the inhabitants of the city, and the protection charges were soaring through the roof. The Sartini family gave the McKlains three seemingly merciful options: either of them could die, Marsha could become a prostitute, or Jonathan McKlain Sr. had to join their family and perform “services? until his debt was paid off. Jonathan boldly decided to join the family, and had to leave Marsha in the process. Devastated, Marsha fell into a depression, lost her job, and never left her house.

Affliction often numbed himself to the traumatic events occurring in his family, but when he returned, the condition of his mother saddened and angered him greatly. His father had done enough work to pay off the debt, but decided to remain in the family, completely abandoning his own. Jonathan decided to join the Veritas Special Forces Unit to help support his mother.

Despite disbelief and doubt, he once again fooled skeptics by making perfect scores in all of the field and academic tests, and was accepted into the VSFU with full privileges. Jonathan was trained in many styles of warfare, armaments, and vehicles. It is during this training that he discovered his absolute fascination with guns, especially ancient guns. He managed to locate an old pawn shop in downtown Veritas, purchased many old rifles, shotguns, and handguns, and would lock himself inside of his apartment and study the weapons.

Jonathan’s favorite weapon was, of course, the revolver. After being astounded by its sheer power and recoil, he began to practice with the gun at VSFU headquarters, often being picked on playfully by his friends and peers. He would take apart the revolvers, study their insides, study their outsides, and soon began crafting his own pair of revolvers. Jonathan started by following the Enfield Mark II design for its power and dependability. He added several modifications to enable the guns softer recoil, better stability, and made a few alterations to the barrel and chamber to support the modern day revolver ammunition. He spent approximately two years fashioning the guns to perfect condition.

Jonathan dropped out of the VSFU very suddenly, as if a revelation had been brought about overnight, and for unknown reasons he became a professional bounty hunter. He started his career of assassinations by accepting a contract to eliminate the Sartini family. The name was very nostalgic to him, and he knew exactly why. This is how Affliction’s birth came about, and with his two revolvers, he mercilessly slaughtered the entire family without a moment’s doubt, including his own father.

For two years Affliction has been walking the streets of Veritas, claiming any contract that others are too afraid to claim, and accomplishes his missions with incredible accuracy and malice. He has recently struck up a partnership with two other professional assassins, and continues to do what he loves doing.

Subsequent to the birth of Neo-Animism, the fatal harbinger of human-centric doctrines, otherworldly civilizations initiated their contact with Earth; specifically at Venus Colony, an ore-mining settlement under the auspices of Lockheed Martin. With the popular traducing of close-minded dogma, perhaps Earth was ready for them. Nevertheless, they came.

Of these visitors, there is a species humans candidly refer to as Mirr, for their skin has the luster as metal and, coincidentally, they were quite instrumental in certain scientific advances that allowed humanity to explore far beyond the boundaries of its own solar system. While interaction with them nears its centennial, humans still know very little about them as a civilization. Thus far, the most interesting characteristics humans are aware of is their borderline fetishistic love of music and the peculiarity of their skin―namely, that they don't bruise, but dent; this is odd, given that their dermis appears as natural and malleable as any human's, until impact.

Dekadin

He isn't overly large, but Dekadin is overly clumsy. Fortunately, he is a Mirr, with an anodized exoskeleton. Its dull copper tinct is riddled with pale blue markings, the same blue you see at the bottom of a metal pot after it has been set over fire many, many times; the same shimmering blue as his eyes. He possesses hair, russet, and other features that make him indistinguishable from a human in a crowd of humans; at least, publicly, as rumors suggest the Speculum merely appear human to seem unthreatening, and there may very well be some truth to them. He carries a short metal flute of his own contriving, which he plays readily, and adorns himself in green clothing of the most fantastic design.

As of late, Dekadin has taken residence in Verisimilitude. There, he writes science fiction novels, symphonies, is active in charitable programs involving children―whom he loves to watch play sports―and, perhaps more critically speaking, he is on the city's defense council with top-level access to the military security net.

All told, it is a good life for a single individual far from his home planet.

Arkady Svidrigaïlov, despot of a city quite literally on the verge of anarchy were human nature not so contrary to such an establishment and unremittingly bound to the bestial pathos of alpha and vassal. Such a civil state is much to his illicit likings, however, and in a city of lawlessness far-flung from external authority and justice, there is very little cause for him to restrain himself. Beyond the dark closeting of his libations, Arkady moves the military of Veritas as he pleases; one of his many privileges as prefect. Along with it, in an effort to maintain rigid control, his other hand deftly manipulates the mafiosi. Even so, he feels empty, powerless, and ineffective―there is another city out there, grander than his own, and he will stop at nothing to subvert its authority.

Skyler:

Physical Features: Has dark skin (Has African American blood) and wavy hair. Pretty much average height for his age, 14. Thin, and fit. Yet muscle tone not fully developed. Has not reached full maturity. He has hazel eyes with flecks of green.

((Then after being injected with his animal DNA grew elk antlers and tail. Skyler's large lopey ears easily give away his emotions )) -->> [[This is for anthro/animal hybrid roleplays]]

Clothing: Cargo shorts, or worn jeans, with a plaid shirt. Brown and blue sneakers and a beaded choker.

Personality: Very up-beat, and usually happy. Caring, goofy, a slap on the back friend, and can be rather annoying when he gets into your face. More bark than bite, he often speaks without thinking as the result. Skyler could be considered as a coward or perhaps cautious. He'd rather turn tail and flee, rather than stick around to fight. He's also a loyal friend, and is ready stick up for them. His humor is his greatest of value, though sometimes what he finds funny can irritate people. He's a good hang out buddy, and is always on the look out for a good time.

This is no longer a sign-up RP. If anyone wants to participate in the Veris System, they can feel free to do so in the Multiverse (In Character forum), where its use is free and available to everyone.

For more information, see Veris & Veritas.
