They say that there's someone out there for everyone. But sometimes the one who's right for you is someone you didn't expect. This was true when it came to Professor Nathan Olstrum. He was a Teacher at Langsford High School. And for years he has been atracted to a student by the name of Ashley Smith. She is a beautiful and extremely inteligant young woman. He has never met anyone like her in his entire life. He can't keep himself from thinking about her. He's see's other guys with her every day and he becomes extremely jealous that they can have her and he cant. But he gets an idea. Maybe he can have her. You see, Professor Nathan wasn't just any ordinary teacher. He was a wizard, and a very powerful one at that. He devises a way to make a spell that will capture Ashley's attention and make her his. But will he be able to do it in the end? Or will Ashley eventually fall for Professor Nathan in the end?

Professor Nathan sat in his study, watching the children pass around the school grounds. He sighed as the sun slowly made it's way up towards the clouds. 'The beginning of a new day.' Lately, the time had been passing dreadfully slowly for him. He got up, he ate, he taught, he ate again, taught again, went home, slept. That was his life, plain and boring. The only element of excitement was one of his students and even that was wrong. How could a teacher have a relationship with a student?

He sighed again as he thought of Ashlye Smith, the light of his life. She probably had no idea how he felt, probably had no idea that he existed. He was just the charming school professor that little girls got mad crushes on. Oh yes. Professor Nathan was very well aware of his status in this school. Not only did the teachers fling themselves at him, but the teenagers too. He always managed to brugh them off politely, excusing himself from awkward situations but they were always there, waiting, ready to pounce.

And that was why he adored Ashlye so much. She was one of the only girls who didn't dote upon him, didn't fling herself at him. She was the one girl he wanted and yet the one girl he couldn't have. But then he wasn't a powerful wizard for nothing. Two years ago, he had agreed to live as a normal human, running away from death as it followed him throughout his life. If he hadn't have agreed to living normally, he would have surely been murdered and would almost definately not be here today. But, some things just couldn't be helped. He couldn't stand to see other boys all over the girl he loved. He wouldn't stand for it and if he couldn't win her heart naturally, he'd force the issue. How, though, he wasn't sure.

Professor Nathan felt himself getting worked up and decided to leave his study and head on to first lesson. English. He loosened his tie as he left the room and undid the top button of his shirt. Sure, it was breaking the uniform rules of a professor, but it wasn't like anyone could do anything about it. One wink at the headmistress and she'd bow and let him through. However, he wasn't one to push his ability and boast around his good looks. Professor Nathan was genuinly a modest guy and treated everyone with upmost respect. Unless of course, they pissed him off before hand.

The teacher let himself into his room and proceeded to sit behind his desk, flipping a poetry book in his hands.

Ashley let out a small groan as her alarm clock went off beside her. Her hand moved out and hit the top of her alarm clock so that it would shut off. It was six o'clock AM. School started at around seven-thirty so she had plenty of time to get ready for the day. She pulled back the covers on her bed and got up slowly, stretching and popping all the kinks she had. With a sigh she walked towards the bathroom and took off her pajama's and hopped into the shower, turning on the hot water she shivered at the feeling of it as she started to wash up for the day at school. It was getting closer to the end of the year and that meant finals were coming up. She was nervous and excited by everything that was going on. The last football game was coming up for them and she had to practise on her cheer for the game. And on top of that she also had to plan stuff for Prom. Everything was getting so messed up and she didn't even know where to start. As she continued to think she got ready for school. Dressing in a comforitable pair of jeans, a purple cotton t-shirt and a pair of brown sneekers.

She put on a little blush and lipgloss. She didn't like to overdue her makeup, she liked to keep it as natural as possible at school. She had a natural beauty and she had no need to put on a lot of makeup. And she brushed through her dark brown hair before she got her bag and headed downstairs. Grabbing a quick bowl of cereal before going outside and into her car. She liked getting to school early to talk with some of her teachers and friends about homework and stuff like that. She hoped into her old fashioned 1965 VW Bug and headed off to school. It took about ten minutes until she was in the school parking lot. Her friends waving at her as she got out of the car. "Hey Ashley" Her friends yelled out to her and waved as she walked towards them.

They made their way through the hallways and towards their lockers. "So...did you finish your english paper Professor Nathan gave us?" One of her Friends Sarah asked. " Yeah I finished it two days ago" Ashley said with a small shrug. She was a fabulous student, even with everything going on she kept up with her studies and homework. "What about you?" Ashley asked as she stopped to get her books. "No...I don't even remember what the assignment was...I couldn't stop staring at him" Sarah said with a dreamy sigh. "Honestly you guys...he's our teacher. You shouldn't be thinking about him that way" Ashley said and rolled her eyes.

Professor Nathan stayed sat in his seat, closing his eyes for a while, until a few students entered the room. He rubbed his temple slightly, feeling a headache coming on already. That's what you got for not sleeping properly. With a sigh he waved to some girls who past him, ignoring their stupid giggles. He wasn't in the mood today and wasn't particularly looking forward to all the unwanted attention he was sure to be given. The girls sat at the back, whispering into each other's ears. It was olnly when the headmistress entered the room did they stop and lower their heads. Most kids were scared of Mrs Bridgestock.

The middle aged woman walked over to Professor Nathan, a smile plastered on her face. She fluttered her eyelashes a few times and flicked her hair. Nathan had to supress an irritated sigh. Did she really think she'd catch his attention this way?
"Oh, Professor Nathan, I just came along to check that everything was in order for the final exams in a few weeks."
"Yes Mrs Bridgestock, I can assure you that everything will run perfectly." He smiled at the woman, before quickly taking it away again when he saw colour rise in her cheeks.
"How wonderful!" She clasped her hands together and loitered around for a few moments, obviously expecting him to say something. When he didn't she smiled again; Nathan noticed it was more strained. "Well, I will be checking." She waggled a finger at him before tottering off, hardly able to walk in her heels and pencil skirt.

Nathan sighed again as the chatter got up in the room. "Quieten down girls." He warned, his voice low and silky. Everything about him really, drew females closer to him. It was a trait, which he wished he didn't have.

"See you in class!" Sarah and her other friends said to Ashley as they headed off towards Professor Nathans class. She got her notebook for english and her book as well. A few guys in the hall passed her, wanting to talk but she quickly shewed them away. She didn't like High School Boys. They were so rude and cocky, she hated it. They had no manours and were just...annoying to her. She put her bag back on her shoulder and headed towards Professor Nathans class. It was one of her favorite classes, and it wasn't because of Professor Nathan. English was her favorite subject, and the one she did the best on. She made her way into the class and didn't even glance at Professor Nathan. She noticed that a bunch of girls were flaunting over him and it made her sick.

It was just wrong the way girls threw themselves at people, especially their teachers. She took out her notebook and English book and made sure that her homework was done nice and neat. She also took out her English assignment and looked over it, making sure nothing needed to be changed. "Psst...Ashley...did you do the homework?" Sarah whispered to her making Ashley jump. "yeah...didn't you do it?" Ashley asked but before they could say more the bell rang, signaling for class to start.

Nathan continued to watch as students piled into the room, his eyes only searching out one inparticular. He knew his feelings were wrong, but how could he deny them when they were so strong? A few males bundled into the room, jeering and pushing each other. Professor Nathan stood up then, feeling the irritation rise in his throat. "Boys, please." He said, his voice deadly smooth and reasonably calm. "Take you seats quietly." He ordered and then turned to write today's aim on the board.

That's when he smelt it. That wonderful floral scent he admired so much. Ashley had entered the room. He resisted the urge to turn around and whisk her off her feet right there and then. He could feel his teeth grit together and continued to write out in his elegant swirled writing. Once he'd finished, he turned around and flicked on his computer and brought up a register.

"Class, calm down please." He ordered, watching as a wave of silence swept through the room. It was funny really, how the students, especially the females, all listened to him as soon as he spoke. He tried to hide a smirk and leant against his desk, flicking through an english text book. "Ok, this morning, we have a slight change of plan. I'm going to run through who did their english assignment, that was due in for today..." He watched a few faces strain with worry and a few groans escape from the lips of students who obviously hadn't done it.

Professor Nathan sat down at his desk and proceeded to flick through the register, calling out names. "Andrew?"
"Yes sir."
"Excellent. Bring it to the front please." He offered the boy a smile as he placed a wad of paper on his desk and then moved onto the next name. "Sarah?"
"No sir."
"Why not?" Nathan glanced up from his chair, noticing the blush on her face. He cringed for the girl, but he was a teacher and he had to do his job. "I forgot."
"Well, that's not really good enough, is it? We have finals in a few weeks and if you keep forgetting you're not going to get the grade you want, are you?" He spoke softly, a look of disapointment on his face rather than anger. "Bring it to me first thing in the morning, otherwise it'll have to be a detention, ok?" He looked at the girl before moving onto a few other students.

Eventually he got to the name he'd been waiting for. He inhaled. "Ashley?"

Ashley went back to checking her paper as soon as Sarah shut her mouth. SHe loved Sarah to death like a sister, but sometimes she was just damn annoying. Not only had she not done her paper, but she had also forgotten about the homework and reading assignment that they had been assigned half a week ago. She was such an air-head that it made Ashley wonder sometimes why they were friends. And Sarah didn't have an excuse not to do her homework. Ashley had cheer practise, plus was part of the student council. And yet she was a straight A student, got all of her homework done, and still had time to socialize. It was a complete mericale. She had told Sarah if she could do it then anyone could do it. It was slightly embaressing that she socialized with girls like Sarah sometimes, she was a true dumb-blonde sometimes...and she was a brunette!

When Professor Nathan called her name she almost forgot about what was to be turned in today. She looked up and smiled softly and nodded. "yes sir" She said in a confident tone. She was possotive she had done a fantastic job on her essay. She had only worked on it for a night, but it wasn't that hard of an essay. "I also did the Extra credit on the back" she said and heald up her paper. She must sound like a perfectionist. But she strived to be the best.

Nathan breath caught as he looked up and caught her beautiful smile. He felt his heart pick up a little. 'Stop it she's a student!' The sensible part of his mind kept telling him to stop, kept telling this was wrong but his feelings for her were too strong. How could he be reasonable when he felt this way?

He listened to her speak. "That's fantastic Ashley. An amazing standard as always. Please bring your work to the front." He watched her, his stone coloured eyes glistening. He didn't fail to notice a few glares the other girls gave her and he quickly gave them sharp looks. He new how bad the bitchiness could be here and he'd always tried whatever he could to stop it, more so when it involved targeting Ashley. He just couldn't understand why girls got so jealous - If they wanted to impress him why didn't they simply do the assignments he'd set?

"Of course Sir" Ashley said, and she was well aware that people were staring at her, mostly the girls. Probably because they were extremely jealous of her. She wasn't sure why they were jealous. She was an ordinary girl who just happened to do a lot of different things and did the best at them. Most people would call her a teachers pet, but she didn't think she would go as far as that. She was just a good student thats all, and she strived to be the best. If anyone was jealous because of that, then that only meant that they had to improve on themselves. She got up from her desk slowly and walked over towards Professor Nothans desk, setting her paper on his desk along with the extra credit she had done. The assignment had been to choose a literary work of art and to write a summery, and what you really thought the story or poem meant. She had chosen Edgar Allen Poe's Raven. She had an odd obsession with EAP's work that she couldn't explain. She glanced up at Professor Nathan and gave him one more friendly smile before walking back to her desk and sitting down.

Professor Nathan tensed slightly as Ashley made her way to the front. That beautiful floral scent of hers got a lot stronger as she got nearer and he struggled not to reach out to her. But then her piece was on his desk and she was walking back to her seat again. "Thank you." Her murmered softly and pulled over her paper gently to have a look at it. He noted she'd chosen a pice of Poe's work and let a small smile creep across his features. Nathan's own favourite was 'The Cask of Amontillado' and he felt happy that they had this small detail in common.

With a sigh, Professor Nathan continued to finish the list of names, finally reaching the end. Then he stood up and clapped once. "Quiet please." Immediately everything hushed down, lots of young innocent eyes staring at him. "Ok, today, we'll be looking at two poems. I want you to compare them, in meaning and in techniques. You've done this before, so there shouldn't be any problems." He picked up a pile of textbooks and started handing them around the classrooms. "The two poems are 'Nothings Changed' by Tatamkhulu Afrika, which looks at Apartheid in South Africa, and 'Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful people in a mercedes' by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which looks at the hierarhcy type society in America."

One Nathan had finished, he took his seat at the front of the class again and clasped his hands over his stomach. "They're on page 102. If you have any questions, please raise your hand now."

Ashley smiled at the mention of the two poems. They were both different and unique in their own ways, but they also had simalarities that she found intriguing and she knew that some people wouldn't get it. She had always had a love for poetry and was glad that they were assigned this for work. She heard Sarah groan beside her in complaint. She wasn't very good at compair and contrast. Ashley sighed and shook her head sadly for a moment, alerady having her book open to the page Professor Nathan adressed to them. She had read both poems before so she had a veig idea of what both said, but she always liked to re-read Poems just in case. She was already ahead of everyone else in the class so she decided to take it slow today. There was still a lot of time in class so she decided to work the same pace as everyone else in the class.

Even though she tried to work slowly it was hard not to spead up a little bit in her work progress. Sarah kept whispering to her and asking for help but Ashley ignored her. The really didn't like it when people interupted her when she was working, it really bugged her. And before she knew it the bell rang. SHe hadn't been expecting it so it made her jump slightly. She had finished her work just in time. She smiled and got up from her desk, putting away her book and the rest of her supplies. The students all filed out before she did and put their papers on Professor Nathans desk before exiting the door. Ashley was the last one to leave. "Here you go Professor" She said with a proud smile and set the paper down neatly on top of his desk.

Nathan sat through class, absently marking a few of his younger student's work. Every so often he glanced up at Ashley, smiling slightly as he saw her writing away. Most of his pupils sat there, chewing on their pens, no idea what to write. But not her. Ashley just got stuck in, filling pages up with fabulous work. Another thing, which he loved about her.

Just as he was drifting off into some kind of love sick daze, he noted Sarah out of the corner of his eye, whispering to one of the boys at the back of the room. He coughed loudly, causing a few kids to jump. "Sarah, you are already in a lot of trouble with me today. Do you want to make it worse?" He saw the girl shrink back into her chair and then dropped his gaze back to his work, not wanting to bother with her any more. If kids didn't want to learn, that was there choice. Nathan would just focus on the ones that did.

Eventually, the lesson came to an end and Nathan glanced up from his paperwork, only to find Ashley the last one to leave. He smiled at her as she put her paper on top of the pile. "Thank you Ashley. Brilliant work today." He stood up and started to file the papers together when he had a though. "Say Ashley. I already know your doing amazingly in your english work but I was thinking. How about some extra one on one classes, to ensure that high grade?" He smiled at her again, his eyes quite intense. "I mean, if you don't already have enough on, that is."

Pefore Ashley exited the room she stopped and looked up at Professor Nathan and smiled softly. "Thank you very much sir" Ashley said and fixed the strap on her shoulder. She tilted her head to the side and listened to his suggestion, thinking for a moment "Well...I would never pass down any extra credit. If it helps my grade anymore then where it is right now, then I'd be happy to do it. What exactly do you have in mind?" She asked, not thinking about his motives before she leaned against his desk and looked as he started to move through papers and file them out. She was completely oblivious like the other girls would be in this situation. Sarah would have recognized the signs that Professor Nathan was giving off.

She didn't even have the faintist idea how much he really was atrackted to her. "I don't have anything else planned for the rest of the day actually. So whatever extra credit you have I'll be able to do. I've already finished all of my homework in my other classes" She said with a small shrug and thats when the bell rang again, signaling that the next class would begin in the next fifteen minutes. "I'll come back at the end of the day and I can work on the extra credit" Ashley said with a smile and turned to walk to the door. "I'll see you soon Professor Nathan" Ashley said giving him a small smile and a wave before heading towards her next class.

Professor Nathan waved away her thanks with a quick motion of his hand a small, cheeky smile. He listened to her accept his offer and felt his heart flutter at the thought of spending extra time with her. "Well... I thought that maybe we could go over a couple of Poe's pieces and some more poetry. I have a few techniques in mind, that I only share with my top students." He chuckled then, his voice warm and soft. He knew she wasn't aware of his feelings, but if he could make her aware.. Make her understand or even just get an inkling for her feelings towards him, it would be enough. There was always a spell or a potion if he made a fool out of himself.

Nathan sighed then. He didn't want to have to do this to her.. But he feared that if his feelings got to strong it would be the only way to turn. 'But you-' He cut his thoughts of abrubtly and met her gaze again. He nodded slightly as she mentioned other subjects and felt his lips tugging up when she said she'd be back at the end of the day. "And I'll see you, Ashley." He waved slightly, staring after her after she'd gone.

The rest of the seemed to go by extremely slow for Ashley. Usually the day went by quickly but for her it was just going by impossibly slow. She wrote down all her homework and before she knew it it was the end of the day. She gathered up all of her stuff and headed to her locker to put away her books and started to head back towards Professor Nathans room when she was stopped by Sarah. "Hey, where are you off to?" She asked and tilted her head to the side a little suspiceous as to where she was going. "I'm going to go see Professor Nathan and do some extra credit for Lit." Ashley said with a shrug and fixed her strap on her shoulder. Sarah's eyes went wide and a mischevious grin came across her face. "Extra credit huh?" She said with a wider smile. "Sarah I swear is that all you think about?" Ashley asked and rolled her eyes.

"oh come on. Have you not noticed the way he stares at you? He ignores every girl in the school except for you" Sarah said and folded her arms across her chest. Ashley sighed and shook her head. "Because I'm a good student and pay attention, thats why" Ashley said and then looked at the clock. "I have to go" Ashley said and walked back towards Professor Nathans class.

Once Ashley had left the room, Nathan had a free period. He wandered up to the staffroom, his leather jacket hanging around his shoulders. Such a look earned him a good few wolf whistles from some female students, but he brushed them off with a small smile and wave of his hand. To be honest, he never really knew how to react to such gestures. He didn't understand what people saw in him, so how could he accept their compliments? He was just a male wizard, plodding along through life, alone, because he couldn't have the girl he truly loved.

As the day dragged on, Nathan thought it would never end. His lessons were tedious, the younger children he taught playing up as they usually did. He managed to exhale when it was all over and wiped a tan hand across his brow. Finally it was the end of schoo, which only meant one thing. He hurried around the room, collecting up books and packing them briefly away beforr removing his jacket and taking off his tie. He drapedthem both over his chair and then flicked up his favourite, 'The Cask of Amontillado' onto the computer screen.

"Hello Professor Nathan" Ashley said as she entered the room. She tilted her head to the side at the way that he looked now. The tie he was wearing earlier had been taken off and so had his jacket. She saw that the buttons on his shirt were undone a little bit to reveil his collarbone and some of his chest. She felt a blush rise to her cheeks but shook her head and moved her eyes back up to his face. "Are you ready to go over the extra credit?" she asked and set down her bookbag on one of the desks and walked over to him so that she was leaning over his shoulder to look at the computer screen. "Ah. The Cask of Amontillado. A very good piece of work. One of his darkest ones" Ashley said and sat down on the edge of the desk so that she was facing him and glancing down at the computer screen.

"He had such a dark life...its a shame that he never got any credit for his work until after he died" Ashley said and shook her head. "Of course people back in those days didn't understand it. Fall of the House of Usher was one of my favorites by him though. Its very dark and romantic" She said and glanced back down at Professor Nathan. She hadn't known that he was so in to Poets just like she was. It was nice to know that she had something interesting in common with one of her teachers.

Nathan inhaled as Ashley entered the room. "Good afternoon, Ashley." He smiled warmly at her, before quickly looking back at his computer screen. 'Cool it Nathan.' He picked up a book then and opened it in the middle, before flicking a fw pages backwards to find what he was looking for. When he looked up again, he noticed Ashley's gaze was dropped below his face and felt himself smile a little more. Could it be that what all the other girl's saw was finally working on her? Or was that just wishful thinking?

He sighed slightly as her gaze lifted. "As ready as I'll ever be." He chuckled softly but stopped abrubtly when she leaned over his shoulder. Just for that second, he wanted to reach up and caress the smoothness of her cheek, but of course, he restrained himself and exhaled as she sat on the desk. He spun his own chair around to face her, taking in everything she said. "Yes, it's very dark." he grinned then and ran a hand through his hair. "Personally though, I love the hidden hints left throughout the story by Montressor. It's only when we reach Fortunato's death, does the story pull itself together and even then, there's a twist at the end." He flicked down he screen, admiring the writing once more.

Nathan glanced up again as she mentioned Poe. "Yes.. such a shame. The worst part for me, was to hear about his foster mother's death." The wizard caught himself then.. He'd spoken as if he was there. But then.. Maybe he was? He was a wizard after all. Trying to cover his tracks, Professor Nathan raised himself from his seat and placed the book infront of Ashley.
"Ok, Ashley. First of all, I'd just like you to read through this story again, and list the techniques Poe used to create tension, suspense and mystery. I know you'll find it easy, but it'll give me more of an idea as to what extra work to set."

Ashley nodded and she took the book from him, their fingertips touching for a moment and she felt a wierd electrical buzz move through her body at the feeling of it. She looked away from Professor Nathan before she looked down at the book and started to read the story. She was such a complete bookwarm that she finished the story in no time at all. She smiled softly when she finished and took out a pencil and notebook from her back and started writing down everything she remembered from the book. Finally she finished and started talking to Professor Nathan about all the techinques Poe used in the story and how the tension built towards the end of Montressor's death.

She was completely obliverous to the way that Professor Nathan was listening and watching her. If she really payed attention she would be able to figure out how much he really liked her. "So...what next?" Ashley asked. She was completely obliveous to the time. It was almost five o'clock now, way passed the time she was supposed to stay in school, but she didn't really care all that much.

When their fingertips touched, Nathan felt a weird tingling sensation in his hand. He pulled it back quickly, avoiding her gaze. 'Well that was weird.' He moved away from the desk to, give Ashley some space, and headed towards the back of the room, pile of books under his arm. It was always better to get marking out of the way so he could free up the night.

In the middle of his work, every so often Professor Nathan would glance up at Ashley, a small smile tugging at his lips as he watched her writing away. Believe it or not, he was savouring these moments, when it was just them two together, enjoying their work. He smiled again and went back to his marking, only to be interupted by that musical voice he loved so much. He gave her as much advice and information on Poe's work as he could, hoping it really would help her with her exams. He wanted her to do well after all, just more so than the rest of his students.

Just as Ashley was, Nathan was completely unaware of the time that had passed. As she asked what she should do next, he glanced at the clock and he let out a small whistle, his eyes glinting. "Wow, it's late. That went fast." He exclaimed, a not of disapointment in his voice. But then it hit him like a flash. He knew what he was about to say was completely wrong, but he'd ask anyway.
"Say Ashley, you've worked hard here tonight. Do you want to go grab a coffee or something and I can show you a few more tips. My treat for an excellent pupil." He rose from his chair and leant against the desk, watching for her reaction.
