Some say the citizens of the city of Correntes are insane for deciding to live there.
The citizens themselves say they like the view.
Correntes is a massive metropolis suspended by immense chains above the black pit of the Abyss. The Abyss, as far as anyone knows, goes down forever; anyone lowered down fails to come back up. The city is large; the population has stalled at around 30,000 people, due to the lack of space on the large rock the city was built on. The city has five tiered, each one getting more elaborate the higher it is.
The first tier is the slums. The poorest of the poor live here, trying to scrape a living by selling the various plants that grow in the crevices along the Foundation's edge. That is, when the City Guard is not taking the herbs for themselves to make some one-the-side income.
The second tier is the marketplace. Crowded stalls compete with small buildings to sell anything a visitor could want, from weapons to drugs to pleasure. Some areas of the marketplace are much shadier than others, and an unwary shopper will be easily marked.
The third tier is where the middle class of the city live. It is made up of any sort of residential building, from small houses to apartment complexes carved out of the stone itself. The narrow, choked streets or the rooftops are the only methods of travel available here.
The fourth tier is the Holy Circle. The various temples to gods and other religious figures and icons take up the majority of the space, with parks filling in around it. It is easily the most pleasant-looking tier.
The fifth tier is the royal and military district. The Magistrates make their residences on this tier, living in their lavish homes decorated with expensive imported items. The rest of the tier is taken up by the Colosseum, where the gladiators and volunteers battle for glory, and the Palace, where the government elite gather to battle for power.
The mass of rock Correntes is built on is riddled with secret tunnels that allow quick access to any area of the city. Several are mapped and patrolled, but so far it is a minority. There are fields outside the city, along the borders of the Abyss, where the citizens of Correntes get their food. There is a river from the south that pours into the Abyss. The citizens have rigged a water delivery system from that.
Story: The city of Correntes has known relative peace for years. That peace ended one day when an army from the Eastern Kingdoms came and began laying siege to the city over the Abyss. The army brought no reason why it came, and the city Magistrates had little interest in fighting a prolonged siege. Their years of military inactivity lead them to believe they could just send their soldiers to fight and it would be done. However, the Easterners were more skilled than they though; they quickly took control of the four Chains and began infiltrating the city.
What started out as a siege became a back-and-forth strike-and-retreat fight throughout the city and the fields around it. Eventually the city came under control of the Easterners after a night raid crushed the defenses from all four corners of the city at once. The city Magistrates were put to the sword and a puppet government was installed. The majority of the citizens of Correntes soon went back to their old ways of life, but a small percentage still had the patriotic fervor for before. This minority has decided to fight back against the Easterner regime. It no longer matters why they invaded, just that they be driven out.
Character sheets:
Name: Whatever works. Just don't make it something like "Moonlight Hummingbird", etc.
Gender:
Age: Not too young, not too old. Everyone is human, so make it believable.
Faction: Correntesian, Easterner, whatever else.
Caste (if Correntesian): Slumdog, Merchant, Middleman (middle class), Priest, Soldier, Gladiator, Magistrate. The caste is basically what type of person you were before the Easterners invaded. It only really affects backstory and RPing, not combat in any way.
Rank (if Easterner): Soldier, Mercenary, Supply-man, etc. Military ranks. Try not to be too...high-up in the ranks. Commanding a small force can be fine, just no generals or kings or anything.
Weapons (if any): Realistic, please. No eight-foot buster blades. Keep it medieval-ish. Swords, axes, etc. I'll let you know if your choice doesn't work.
Skills: Just say what your character is good at. Are they charismatic? Can they sneak well? Use your imagination, but keep it semi-realistic.
Backstory: Just what it says. You don't need one, but it would be cool to see. Go ahead and make up your own stuff for Correntes, I'm gonna let it be open-ended
Rules:
No magic, please.
No god-moding
No NPCing other people's characters
If you're fighting, take some damage. No uber-swordsmen.
If you have a problem, contact me. I'll help you solve it.
Be creative. I'm leaving the fate of Correntes in your hands. I'll post story updates, etc when I feel it will be appropriate.
