War in Haven - IC - Always Accepting ( )

Postby Billie_blujean on Mon Jan 04, 2010 5:07 pm

Welcome to the city of Haven, South Carolina. Here we have everything you as a supernatural could possibly desire - Large amounts of oblivious people, woodlands, trash dumps, centers of mystical power, a high violent crime rate, and more! So come on down and join us! At this moment in time, there are quite a few factions vying for power within the city, and you are welcome to throw your lot in with any of the following:

[The Zealots] This group of individuals believe that it is time for those with supernatural abilities to throw away the old ways of hiding in plain sight, carrying out their lives in secret and overtake those who are the weaker species - human beings. There is any number of things that can be done with humans once they are overthrown as the dominant species of the planet - they'd be a fantastic food supply for some, breeding stock for others, and still others think turning them into mindless slaves sounds like a brilliant idea.

[The Hardliners] These individuals believe that a specific species of supernatural should be in charge of all the other species (typically they believe that their individual species is by far superior to all others, although this is not always the case). They seek to put their most capable species leaders in charge of all the city operations, but unlike the first faction, they wish to use their supernatural abilities sparingly, letting the humans believe they are still in control of the situation, and letting them remain ignorant that those who are behind the scenes are true, literal monsters.

[The Mainstreamers] This group is attempting to share control of the city with all the supernatural species as equally as possible, but otherwise, is much like the Hardliner Faction.

[The Uninvolved/Neutral] These guys are just doing their best to keep their heads down and establish "safe havens" for those members of their own species (or morals) that are in danger of being harmed or killed by members of opposing factions.

This is typical politics, yes? Unfortunately, that thing about oblivious people that I wrote about up above? Oh. Not so much. Don't get me wrong - most of the people in the city truly are completely ignorant of the dangerous creatures that share the limits of their city with them. But some? Some are starting to figure out that something's up. Some have seen things they shouldn't have seen, some have abilities (or disabilities) that allow them to discover supernatural individuals, some are raving lunatics who think maybe something's up, but have no proof. What happens if they start trying to discover information about supernatural creatures? What happens if they try to actually kidnap or kill some of these individuals?

Can the disparate groups of supernatural individuals work together for their own protection? Or will they simply sacrifice their enemies to those humans who know something is up in order to let themselves get ahead in the game and to further their agenda?

Characters for this game are created using a simplified version of White Wolf's World of Darkness. Please see the OOC for more information. It can be found here. Another link will be shown below.

The Rules

1. Be literate. Start your sentences with capital letters, use proper punctuation, and treat the English language with a bit of respect. Your characters can speak in slang or text in txt talk all they want - but you as the narrator need to have control over the English language at all other times.

2. I’m not putting a post limit down - sometimes, it’s almost impossible to write a very long response, particularly when you’re leaving a scene or just entering a scene. However, that being said, I’m not going to put up with someone who just posts one-liners repeatedly. I will warn, then reprimand, then ask you to leave the group. I will then take over control of your character or give them to someone who can follow the rules.

3. If you are having a conversation between two characters and both players are online, instead of posting a large amount of short posts, please PM one another and then have a single person post the entire conversation. I also hear you can do something like this in the chat room, although I’m unaware because I’ve never used the chat on this site.

4. Be logical. Don’t make your vampire character frolic around in the daylight, don’t make your human character so awesome that they can best the oldest, biggest, baddest monsters. Remember - despite the fact that some of these monsters aren’t bad guys, they aren’t human and will not act as if they are. To even the kindest supernatural being, humans are dangerous - they’re cunning, they’re sneaky, and they’re everywhere - in the same way that only the dumbest monster would reveal themselves to be more than human to Joe Schmoe walking home from work, a human who says, “That guy’s a vampire! I’m going to go kill him now! Alone!” is not going to last very long.

5. Once again, these individuals are monsters, and even some humans are monsters. If you have something disturbing you want your character to have an affinity for doing, that’s fine - HOWEVER, be respectful of others. If someone voices a concern about something your character chooses to do, don’t get angry, don’t be mean, and don’t ignore their concerns. Either explain or fix the situation. And keep everything to a PG-13 level - otherwise take it to PMs.

6. Speaking of concerns, if you have any issues with another individual, please speak with them. In PM. If you’re uncomfortable confronting them, PM me. I’ll do it. I don’t mind being the bad guy. Don’t call one another out in the OOC, and DON’T talk OOC in the IC. At all.

7. Respect other people’s characters - don’t god-mod, don’t kill them without the two of you working it out together beforehand, etc.

8. Take what characters you can control, but don’t take more than you can handle. And be sure to respond to any scenes your character is involved in - I recommend that if there are a number of posts between the one you are replying to and your reply, quote them. For example :

Dan and Sally are having a scene together, as are Bill and Heidi. Sally posts a reply to Dan’s most recent post, but before Dan can reply, Bill, Heidi, and Susan all post. Instead of simply replying to Sally’s post, Dan quotes Sally’s most recent post in his new reply, making it easier to follow the storyline.

9. Have fun. Enjoy yourself - just because it’s a storyline about monsters doesn’t mean it has to be all doom and gloom.

10. Any questions or concerns? Please PM me. And please PM me if you are going to be missing from the group for any extended period of time.

11. Final rule. Please rate one another's posts and please rate them fairly. I, for one, believe that ratings can let people know when their work is subpar as well as let them know when they're doing well. So please use the system accordingly.

Holly Marcell walked through the streets of Haven, hands in the pockets of her worn-out jeans. Her boots made a loud, hollow sound as she walked down the deserted alleyway, on her way to the meeting. Glancing up, she thought she caught sight of blackbird wings, but shrugged it off. Even if that bitch was back in town, she was doing right by her people - hopefully, she'd see that. But it was too late. With thoughts of talons and feathers and pearl-handled six-shooters dancing in her head, she quickened the pace, ignoring the urge to look around, convincing herself it wasn't fear that was making her undead body shiver. She reached the spot and ducked into the door - the one that wasn't always there - letting out a sigh of relief as it shut behind her.

"Welcome back, Hound Marcell," a soft voice spoke in greeting.

"Hey Sybil," Holly replied, removing her jacket and hanging it on the hook by the door before kneeling to untie her shoes. After removing them, she walked to a small table sitting in the center of the room - it was the only piece of furniture in the place, at least as far as Holly knew. The lights were kept dim and the place was thick with the heady smell of incense. There, at the table, sat Sybil - a little slip of a woman who looked like she could use a few more meals. Holly sighed with relief when she saw that the creepy third eye on Sybil's forehead was covered with a simple red bandanna, and her eyes widened slight when Sybil chuckled as if she knew what Holly had been thinking.

"Thank you for stopping by," Sybil began, gesturing to a small glass bowl resting to the right of the chair Holly was now sitting herself into. "Your payment first, please. Then I will do the reading."

Holly nodded and picked up a small silver knife - an Athame, or something like that - and winced as she slit her hand open from pinkie to thumb. She then held her hand over the bowl, watching the beautiful crimson liquid drip in until Sybil reached for it. "That's enough, dear," she said gently, and Holly pressed her hand closed and made a conscious effort to close the wound. It closed and she licked the blood still on her hand off with little concern for decorum. Sybil slid the bowl closer to herself and began to pour some sort of blue-tinted liquid into the bowl. When Holly had asked about this before, Sybil had merely responded it was to keep the blood from clotting, but would say no more about it. So Holly had stopped asking.

The bowl was tucked under the table and a deck of tarot cards was brought out in exchange. It was at this moment, as always, that Holly considered leaving. She didn't want Sybil to open the deck. She didn't want to have to touch the leathery cards that Holly was certain were made out of the skin of some sentient creature. She didn't want to see the drawings upon them moving, writhing. But it was for the good of her city, and if it was good for the city, it was worth it. "Let's do this," she replied, cracking her fingers.

An hour later, Holly exited out the same door in which she had entered. The air outside, bitter cold, stung her lungs and nostrils but helped clear out the smell of Sybil's den more that anything else could have. She had gotten what she wished for and couldn't have been more interested in what the cards had told her. She got the feeling she had quite a job ahead of her. But more importantly, right now, she was hungry. Glancing back at Sybil's door (which was no longer there), she nodded to herself and set off in search of dinner. Hopefully it would hit the spot.

Daven sat in a small twenty-four hour diner in downtown Haven, smoking a cigarette and drinking a cup of coffee. Even after two thousand years he still wasn't able to handle regular food, but had built up an immunity to liquids about a century ago. Always one to take his time, Daven quietly read a paper and occasionally looked out the window. He had only arrived in Haven a week ago and still wasn't to familiar with the town, but he thought he might not be there very long. Over the centuries Daven had collected a massive amount of money so he could relax every decade or so and he was doing so now. Daven finished his coffee and left the diner through the back door to a dark alleyway. He was hungry, but where could he find a suitable prey? This town was quiet most nights and he hadn't eaten a decent meal since arriving.

As he walked down the street he noticed a young girl fiddling with her keys as she was clearly drunk and shouldn't be driving. Daven approached the girl, looking around to see if anyone was watching. He grabbed her, sinking his teeth into the girls neck and covering her mouth so she couldn't scream. He only took enough to satisfy his hunger and let the girl live, placing her in the car unconscious. He whipped the blood from his mouth as he continued walking down the street finding himself bored and in need of real entertainment, but unable to find any. "I miss the Crusades." He smiled a bit as he thought about his experiences during that time and how entertaining he found humans back then.
You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.

Holly continued on her nightly rounds. Typically, they were pretty quiet, at least on the supernatural front. She didn't typically get involved in human issues, although she would occasionally charge into cases of domestic violence - when one became a cop, they remained a cop. For life. Or, as this situation stood, even after life. She noticed a man walking down the streets and as she felt her inner hackles rise, became certain that this man was supernatural, though from the distance, she could not tell what flavor. Either way, she sucked her stomach in, pushed out her chest, and made her way over to the man.

"Hey. Haven't seen you before. Name's Holly Davis, but you can call me Hound." She offered her hand to the man, a business card in her grasp - Holly didn't often shake hands. "Just wanted to toss my number out your way - sometimes, I can come in handy."

The card read -

Hound Marcell
Problem Solver
Prices negotiable
(phone number)

"Just so you know, we do have a few rules around here. First and foremost, clean up after yourself. Secondly, don't do anything stupid. Thirdly, well, we really don't have a third rule - it's just that most bad things come in threes. You planning on staying long?"

Daven took the card and looked back at the girl. She was young and confident, much like he was at that age. "Don't worry miss, I don't plan to cause any problems." Daven was a drifter and didn't stay anywhere too long, especially in towns where there was competition for food. "The name is Daven...Ferric, Daven Ferric." He made the last name up on the spot as was what he usually did. He couldn't honestly remember his real first name, let alone his last. He put the card into his pocket, "Unfortunately, I do not own a phone and so requesting your services seems to be an impossible feat." He sat down on a bench by a hardware store they were standing by, crossing his legs. "As for if I plan on staying long... we'll just have to see how it works out. Truth be told I'm more of a drifted then anything else."

Holly nodded. "I know how that is. My sire is that way. Last I heard, he's in Vegas, although I doubt he'll be there long. He tends to get kicked out of anywhere that involves gambling - he's a bit of a shark." Holly pulled out a cigarette and lit is, flinching slightly from the blaze of her lighter. "And I doubt someone like yourself would need my assistance at all. I just like to keep everyone informed. Those in power at this moment prefer to have someone out there patrolling the area, even if it's someone like me. Sometimes, I wish we'd go ahead and overhaul the government. I could go with a few nights off once in a while."

She sat beside him and rolled her neck, it audibly cracking in the silence. Then she nodded towards the direction in which he had been heading. "If you follow this avenue, you'll eventually hit the docks. There's good eating there, and once you hit the strip, if you head right you'll hit the strip clubs and the bars. Even better eating there. Just in case you were wondering."

After finishing her cigarette, she stood to leave. "Hope to see you around, guy. And if you need a place to crash, look up Miss Sybil. Well, if you need a place to crash, she'll probably find you. Take care, and if I don't see you again, happy hunting."

Jericho stood on the rooftops surveying the city. He licked his stops, tasting the remnants of his meal. A gang of pathetic humans he had discovered by chance he searched for a new place to reside. They appeared to a gang of sorts, the violent sorts. He'd delt with them easily and claimed there home as his own. Suddenly he was aware of two young ones down below. He brushed off there presence as uninteresting and sat back to watch the night sky.

Growls and snarls could be heard coming from a large rich looking house. It was very big being able to hold a very large family or pack. No human could hear the horrifying sounds that were coming from the mansion. The outside looked completely normal, but if you weren't human you would know that something big was going on.

Around the mansion were big dogs that looked more like wolves walking all around the area. They were very aware of what was going on inside the elegant walls. There was a price to pay with everything you do in this pack. Make one wrong move and you could be severely punished by the elders of the pack. They make all the rules and they control everything.

Inside the large building the growls and snarls were getting louder as you move into the family room of the house. Many pack members were gathered around making a some what grouped in circle around some of the packs strongest warriors as well as the elders. A small bloody mess of black hair and tan skin in the shape of a young woman was in the center of all this.

"You should be grateful that we haven't killed you yet. We know about your little meetings with that vampire lover. Are you trying to get us all killed?" A red headed elder named Vince asked looking down at the woman.

"We will not be this graceful next time. You must put the pack first and yourself last." A black haired elder named Satsu growled lowly with the promise of pain in his almost black eyes. He had no compassion for females and this one really got under his skin.

The last elder had long blond hair and leaned down to the woman who was holding her sides in pain. "Know your place, you belong to this pack. We are not your family, but your masters, remember that and we will not have to go through this." His voice came out in a loud snarl, but his face remained calm as he stood. Looking down at her he tuned his back walking away as the others made a path for him and the other elders. "Oh and make sure you have her clean up that mess before she is to return to doing her normal duty's." Jaakou said to one of the warriors that were standing around the woman. They nodded and watched as the elders walked out of the room.

The woman slowly stood to her feet and having her hair cover her face, but not the cold look in her eyes that made the other wolves back away in fear. She was far stronger than they were which is why they needed to keep her on a very short leash. Her pride and duty kept her from attacking them, even they knew that she wouldn't hurt them. She felt the shape pain and blood dripping from the claw marks on her body. Twitching her hand slightly the blood on the ground disappeared and turned to water then ice. The ice moved back into her body as she walked away out of the circle. No one dear stop her knowing that the elders where the only ones who could give her orders.

Raikou walked out to the front of the house jumping onto the roof as she over looked the city. She’s never been away from this place the walls that keep her captured there were constricting her of life. “The world is like snow one day it will all melt away and disappear.” Her voice whispered in the wind as it carried just beyond the gates.

"Run."

Her feet were flying over the uneven pavement almost before the word had even left his mouth. For her age, he'd noticed, Rina was fast. Very fast. It was part of why they worked so well as a team. She, as small as she was, made an excellent pick pocket. She was furtive incarnate, very much like a human fox, or something of the sort.

Aaron hated sending his adopted sister out on runs like this. Most of the time, they kept to odd jobs--he'd just recently gotten a job in a local motel, where he and Rina rented a room in exchange for house keeping services. No one tipped like rich fat cats enamored by spunky, mute six-year-olds in pigtails--but when money got tight, they had to do what they could. Rina was more than eager to pull her weight. It was one of the few things that both condoned and negated her young age: where most girls her age could be expected to want to play all day, Rina loved to work. At the same time, when jobs were hard to find, she couldn't abide sitting still, and would often run off into crowds without warning. She'd return with a handful of dollars and cents, proud and beaming, but Aaron would never reward it.

Money or no, he couldn't risk something happening to her if she ever got caught.

Not that she ever did. Whether it was her size, her age, or her unassuming appearance, Rina had some advantage that he'd lacked, when he'd tried the same after moving to Haven. It was before he'd found a place to live, and before he'd found Rina, so their meeting was a blessed coincidence. Still, he couldn't help but wonder what it was exactly that made her so light on her feet, so quick and sneaky, like she was half girl, half beast...

Sybil hurried home from her "office," her shoulders tucked and hunched against a cold that wasn't necessarily all that cold. She was too thin and too bony, and her clothes led most people to believe she was much older than she truly was. The satchel at her side was often thought to contain her knitting supplies, or so those changelings also living in the area joked. In truth, she was one of the most gifted oracles most supernaturals had ever heard of, and she wasn't shy about letting people know that fact. As she shuffled her way home to the boarding house she had owned for the last 5 years (since the previous owner had gone missing one night), she caught a glimpse of a fox tail heading around a corner.

"Hmm," she grunted to herself. To her knowledge (which was quite extensive, all things considered), there were no beasts in the city that took on fox traits. Curious, she slipped around the corner to check the situation out, now moving with the speed she could truly manage - not overly swift, but certainly not the tortured crawl she typically affected in order to hide as much about herself as possible.

At the same time Rina spotted her 'victims', she felt, or rather sensed someone following her. She usually could, just as she knew when someone was looking for Aaron, or when Aaron was looking for her. She didn't know how, exactly, but she wasn't particularly concerned about finding out, either. At six years old, even the precocious Rina could convince herself some strange things were normal.

Like how the color of her eyes changed when she looked in the mirror. Her eyes were green. Bright green. This she knew. Aaron always told her they were the reason she was so good at what she did when they were at his job. And she knew that if she pretended to be sad, and made her eyes look the part, she could get extra sweets from the patrons at the hotel.

But when she looked at herself in a mirror, or a reflective window, or anything where she could see a picture of herself, her eyes were different. She never told anyone this, not even Aaron. For one thing, it was difficult to charade 'Hey, sometimes when I look in a mirror, my eyes look blue-purple, instead of green. What's up with that?' when you couldn't speak. For another, she was certain he, and everyone else would just say it was a trick of the light. She had yet to encounter a trick which could change only the color of her eyes, and so severely at that, but she supposed stranger things had happened. She had yet to figure out, for example, how her bedtime always seemed earlier when Aaron was talking to an older girl he thought was pretty.

But mostly she didn't tell him because of the odd feeling it put in her tummy. Somewhere between nervousness and excitement. Like she'd done something bad, something to be ashamed of, or rather, something she knew she ought to be ashamed of, but wasn't. If she told Aaron, he'd probably be mad. And more than 'early bedtime and no treats' mad. Really mad. Never-speak-to-her-again mad. And maybe not just Aaron, either, but everyone, like the people she sometimes stole for. Only those people already didn't like her. They wouldn't just 'not speak to her again'. They might hurt her. Or worse...they might hurt Aaron.

So, instead of acknowledging the person behind her, which would be to acknowledge that the things she saw in the mirror were not just a trick of the light, she ran faster, darting between and around obstacles to lose her predator.

Sybil watched the girl run and pursed her lips. She was young, small. Too small to be on her own. And tragically, she was indeed like herself - someone who had been Taken (Sybil always thought of that word capitalized, as opposed to the lowercase term) and Changed. A deep sadness welled in Sybil's heart, and she knew that she couldn't catch the child - the girl was fast, her fox tail flying out behind her. She could only hope that perhaps the girl had a family - one that had taken her in and loved her. She would speak to Hound about it, see if maybe she could find out a bit more information.

The world was a dangerous place for people like that little one. Hopefully, she wouldn't be thought crazy by whoever it was that took her in - and hopefully she wouldn't end up in those terrible homes where unwanted children all too often found themselves, unloved and uncared for. Those were the children who returned to the Fae, seeking some sort of love, even if it was perverse and cruel and often deadly.

She shook her head sadly and shuffled off towards home - sending out a prayer to any god who would listen that the poor thing had a safe place to sleep that night.

Vontez sat at his large chair in his empty office, waiting impatiently for the new reports to come in. His bleak office was well lit and very clean, and always had an annoying smell of burning incense. The only things make a noise was the grandfather clock ticking very second and the purring of a red cat napping on Vons lap. The young CEO glanced over at the antique clock. “Pandora, go see what is taking so long.” Von spoke softly, almost in a whisper, but clear enough to show his annoyance.

The red cat immediately woke up and jumped off its masters lap; trotting towards the open office door. Once out of the office the cat began walking on its hind legs as it transformed into a professional looking redheaded woman. Pandora adjusted her pantsuit as she continued walking at a fast pace towards the central communication room. That boy sure is impatient sometimes, she thought to herself as she stopped in front of a door and fixed her hair before entering.

Von waited until he could no longer hear her footsteps. Once the room was silent again, he reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a strange looking key and placed it into the lock of the desk drawer and turned it; unlocking and opening it. Inside were several cases of glass vials containing a tick red liquid; Vontez began counting them. Once he was satisfied by the amount He closed the drawer and placed the key back in his chest pocket.

Pandora sighed as she but on her jacket. This was the third time this month one of their human employees disappeared. For the life of her she never understood why someone who hate humans as much as Von, want to work with them. But as Vontez always said; it was not her place to understand the dealings of the devil. Normally she would send the dogs to go find the human employees, but Vontez was already in a foul mood, as to be expected, and she didn’t want to return to him without answers. She made her way outside and got into the car that was waiting for her and it took off down the street towards the city. Just before the company building went out of sight, Pandora looked back at the large office window, hoping to see the silhouette of a man watching her leave. There was no one.

Several minutes later the car arrived at the edge of town. Pandora instructed the driver to pull over and let her off at the corner. The driver was human, so there was no point in taking him along. He was one of the several humans employed By Vontech Security; under the contract Von had with the government. At first glance, Vontech Security was to look like an ordinary security company, but in truth, Von was working with the government to uncover the truth about the supernatural. None of it made any sense to Pandora; Von's "business partners" don't know about Von's true identity, that's probably why they agreed t work with him in the first place. But it took a lot of convincing to get them to agree to allow supernaturals to work for Von. All this lying had Pandora confused. The young vampire Continued walking down the dark streets of Haven.

Holly was finishing her rounds as she saw the young woman walking down the street. Her senses flared once again as she recognized yet another new vampire in the area. Interesting, more new blood, she thought to herself as she continued walking. Holly stopped walking and leaned against the side of a 24/7 drug store, propping one heel against the wall and waiting patiently for the new vampire move within speaking range.

Pandora noticed the other vampire almost immediately; it wasn’t hard for her to spot her own kind. Her instincts were to turn around and avoid the woman altogether, She didn’t need to get in to any territorial fights over this crappy neighborhood. But Pandora continued walk towards the convenience store; her senses on high alert, just in case there were others. “I’m not looking a meal.” She said plainly. “Just passing by.” Pandora hoped this wasn’t going to turn nasty, but she was ready for it if it did.

Holly nodded, as if that was an acceptable answer, then took to following the young woman at a fairly polite pace. It wasn't to be a jerk, or to frighten the young vampire, I was simply natural - almost a predator/prey thing. She moved at a steady if slow pace, her hands in her pockets and her eyes wandering from one side of the street to the other, but she was always aware of where she was in relation to the young woman in front of her. She would not cause a problem if the other vampire did not cause it, but she wanted to be certain there'd be no problems.

Pandora paid close attention to the sounds of the woman’s footsteps. She rolled her eyes in annoyance; she disliked territorial vampires, but thinking about it; she wouldn’t like it if another vampire was to try and take Von away from her. Pandora clinched her fist in irritation. What if this vampire decided to follower her all the back to headquarters? What if Von likes her better then Pandora? The vampire quivered at the thought of it. Pandora stopped and turned around, her face was pouty. “If you’re going to follow me around then the least you is help me.” She said as she crossed her arms. She looked like a child who just got their lollipop taken away. “I’m looking for a team err group of humans that went missing recently, about three or four of them.” She explained.

Holly made her way closer. "Sounds good. Only one question. Why are they important? I mean, if you're corralling them to much on later, you and I are going to have an issue. Otherwise, sure. I'll help. It's probably not a good thing for anyone to be wandering around here after dark. I'm Hound. You are?" She watched the woman with open interest. Not only was Holly serious in her questions, but she was also serious about the answers. She found that it was much easier to just be up front with people rather than try to hide behind bullshit. Whatever else could be said about her, Holly couldn't be called a liar.

“It’s nothing like that.” Pandora sounded offended. Sure she was a vampire, but she preferred to drink blood out of a cup; it just seemed more civilized that way. Biting peoples necks was often too messy and it was too easy to binge drink that way. “The humans work for my employer; they were on leave and decided to spend their extra cash in this dump.” The vampire was lying through her teeth, but she wasn’t about to tell a local supernatural that the men were trying to locate her buddies hideout. Pandora was smarter than that… wasn’t she. “At any rate, they were supposed to report- err return a few hours ago.” She explained as she dropped her arms to her side and her defense, Pandora was going to be in a real pickle if she doesn’t at least return to Vontez with information.

Holly nodded. The girl wasn't being completely honest, Holly could tell that much. After all. She had been a police officer before becoming a vampire - she'd been a damned good one, too. But, Holly figured everyone would be better off if she came along - at least if all else failed, she'd know the truth in the end. "I'll help you," she replied carefully.

She turned around to check that the street was still empty. It was. "Any idea of where these people were going or what they were doing? I mean, if they're on some kind of binge - drugs or alcohol, it'd probably be easier to find them than if they were somewhere where they didn't want to be found."
