M189 "Cracker Jack" Anti-Material Rifle
Weapon Type: Heavy Weapon (Big Guns)
Rarity: Very Rare
Ammo: 20 mm 5/xx
Damage: Heavy
Historical & Usage Information: The M189 "Cracker Jack" is the USAF (United States Armed Forces) choice for long range precision and heavy fire power during the 2060s and '70s. The gun is fired over the shoulder like a personal rocket launcher and in a prone position so the recoil absorbing bipod can be used in full effect. Most of the recoil is actually absorbed as the upper part of the gun recoils back, much like an artillery gun does, and built-in pistons absorb the force. This keeps it from causing sever bodily harm to the user. Though technically it could be possible to fire the M189 from a standing or crouched position, the change in weight distribution would cause the user to be come off-balanced and most likely fall backwards.
The M189's main purpose was as long range sniper rifle and a man portable anti-vehicle gun. It is capable of taking down a power suited opponent at ranges of up to a mile or greater. Against vehicles it can punch a whole through an APC and can even be a danger to MBT's if the shot is aimed at the correct place. It showed promise and soon became a favorite among troops in Alaska and China. With the advent of the M72 Gauss rifle, the M189's soon began to be phased out in favor of the smaller but just as powerful M72. If not for the ease of manufacture, price, and troop devotion to the weapon the M189 would have been completely mothballed by 2071.
