Weighing Anchors

IC THREAD: weighing-anchors-accepting-t23780.html

And yet ANOTHER RP. It's like my ideas are spewing! ANYwho...

Yes, this is a futuristic pirate role play. And by futuristic, I don't mean space-age with complicated weapons and all that stuff. If you have ever heard of the movie "Treasure Planet", it's going to be a little like that, except with no aliens per se, but there will be odd-looking humanoids. Also, there will be no voyaging into outer space. By futuristic I mean that ships will be sailing faster because they will be powered with jets, like enormous speed-boats. There will also be a wider range of races to chose from for a character, and people will have a generally better knowledge of health issues, like scurvy. This means that pirates won't necessarily be stinky, nasty, sickly beasts of men/women, depending on what condition their captain wants to keep them in. The well-being of the crew mostly relies on their captain, but the captain's power is solely based on the loyalty of their crew.

With all that said, I suppose I should give you a basic glimpse of the storyline: Of course, pirates are only pirates due to their lust for wealth and money. In this age, the Age of Golden Sails, piracy is at its peak. Whether it's in the form of small plunders or unearthing treasure, they are thriving. Though with so many ships sailing on the seas, it is difficult to determine which captain and crew is worth the title of "pirates". Captain Ackart Goroh, one of the most infamous and wealthy pirates in history, was full aware of this. Just days before he disappeared at sea, he left a message at Sea Port Orion, one of the largest ports in the world. It was a scroll of his handwriting that was later sent to the governor of the city. It stated that Captain Goroh left different pieces of a map a the seven corners of that world. When all pieces were gathered and put together, they would reveal the location of a lost city that was supposedly crafted in gold, platinum, silver, and diamonds, and sheltered a temple that is believed to be filled to the brim with sacred relics and jewels that were worth a hundred times their weight in the coin currency of the world. The governor of New Port, the city where the message was sent, was infuriated that the pirate Captain dared to leave his propaganda in the city, and had copies of it made and posted about the town. Though, he did make one change: on the bottom of the paper, he added his own message to any pirate that read it. It stated that any pirate that he discovered was planning to pursue the pieces of the map would be immediately reprimanded and hung in the town square. It turns out the governor used that to urge the pirates to start their journey, but only so he could send out his own fleet of ships with his most trusted captains to follow the pirates to the pieces of the map so he could claim the wealth for himself, in hopes of his city becoming the wealthiest and most powerful in the world.

Aha, so it IS a treasure hunt! For the moment I am looking for people to play the following roles (character limit is at two):

~Players~

Pirate Captains (Accepting): River-Koi (Sophia Dumisani), Mikey Wheels (Argus Raleigh)

Fleet Captains (Accepting): Phidius (Fleet Admiral Drake Durham)-- [Will be one of the captains sent by the governor to either follow or attack the pirate ships before they reach the map piece]

First Mate (Accepting): [Will be the most trusted member of either of the captains' crew]

Crew (Accepting): [Someone from New Port or anywhere else that is eventually convinced to accompany either captain on their voyage]

Citizen (Accepting): Paprika (Adelaide ‘Adela’ Zurita), Alice.Larson (Duchess Jacqueline Marie DuCant)--[Someone who might be kidnapped by the pirates and brought with them to deter the Royal Fleet from attacking their ship; should be from a wealthy family]

Other Roles (Accepting): Light Mario (Jack Orson, Thief), OIL (Karel, Medical/Fighter Robot)

Now, keep in mind, anyone who is a member of the Royal Fleet is corrupt in a way, and won't usually follow the commands sent by the governor. They are like pirates themselves--the crew follows the Captain's orders only, and the Captain will most likely follow their own judgment. Also, messages are sent rather quickly through the power of honing devices, which are basically small jet powered aerodynamic objects that lock onto a ship's energetic coding (something like an internal bar code that all ships are built with). Traveling does not take as long as it usually would in the old days, so ships will be making frequent stops at numerous ports around the world. I am planning to start the RP at the point where pirates arrive at Sea Port Orion and notice the messages posted in various places. And please, for the love of all that is good, no fluffy-cuddle-buddy characters. And sorry, but I will not allow captains or any characters of the higher statuses to be under the age of 21. No god-modding, chat speak, injuring characters without consent, etc... I allow romance and violence, but not to the point of being impractical. Dialogue should lean more towards old-days dialect. The basic rules of nearly every RP apply. I expect you to be LITERATE. Your character profile will provide me with a sample of your writing, so make it in-depth.

Character Skeleton.

Player: (Your Username)
Character: (Name of your character; include their full name and nickname if they have one)
Age: (Either exact or range of age)
Gender: (Male or Female)
Position: (Captain, Crew Member, Citizen, etc.)
Description: (What they look like, please be SPECIFIC; I'm not accepting pictures because I find that to be sort of a short-cut)
Personality: (How they act or function typically)
Weapons: (If any, please make it light; ex. a sword and pistol, but be descriptive)
Background: (Their life; doesn't have to be too long if you don't want it to be)
Other: (Anything; pets, etc...)

I will post my character later, and good luck to ye! :)

I always loved pirates along with the movie "Treasure Planet" so I would like to say I show some interest in your idea here. It's rather late but depending on the response this gains, I will join in the morning. If all possible can I request/save the spot of Fleet Captain? I love pirates but being a corrupt member of the royal fleet seems like a lot of fun. ^_^

I think I would like to join, but I have a question. How many pirate ships are there looking for this treasure? I thought that there would be a lot going after the treasure but I'm not sure. If there are a fair few pirate ships and captains then I would like to reserve a pirate captain spot please!

Velocity, You can make a captain if you want; I'll probably be accepting up to about four maximum (not including the Royal Fleet Captains).

I'm going to post my character soon to give an example if anyone needs it.

Alright sounds good. I have another question to ask you... what clothes will we be wearing? I mean will it be like the normal pirate stuff or modern day clothes? Anyway I have two characters ready and rearing to go when you are! I can't wait for this to start.

Normal pirate/Victorian clothing for everyone-- basically the same setting as that time, but way more high-tech with weaponry and all that jazz. Can't wait to see your character. :) Here's mine anyway:

Player: River-Koi

Character: Captain Sophia Dumisani

Age: Mid 20s

Gender: Female

Position: Pirate Captain

Description: A stature such as hers would be fitting for a captain; she is slightly on the tall side, though anything but twiggy. A hint of sturdy muscle adorned her well-curved body due to years of labor at sea and on land. Auburn-hued skin bronzed by the sun contrasted greatly with bright olive eyes, sharp with wit and experience. Under the black, golden-laced, purple-plumed captain's hat she was adorned with was a head of long ebony braids, mix-matched beads holding the ends together as the loose tufts reached the small of her back. The woman's expression was always that of pride and strength, full lips nearly always kept together in a straight line. When she did manage to crack a smile, however, one might notice her left canine was missing, and replaced with a faux platinum one that almost blended with the other pearly teeth. A long black coat was cut to only cover her arms and raise in a tall collar, dropping down to her ankles at the back, leaving her front exposed to show a gold outer corset. At her hips rested a thick belt that held a few pockets and two holsters at each side, her pants beige in color and tight enough to crease at each angle of her figure. Dark brown-black boots were laced and reached up to just below her knees, the heels only slightly raised.

Personality: Anyone who has been a part of Captain Dumisani's crew would know how strict she was. She is anything but stoic, but when it comes down to business she WILL 'crack the whip'. Any hint of insubordination would be met with harsh punishment, though she does highly value her crew members and would resort to almost anything to keep every one of them alive and well, including keeping a well-polished and sanitary ship.

Weapons: As nearly every pirate captain does, Sophia keeps two pistols at her hips and a sword sheathed on her left, a few daggers concealed on the inside of her coat.

Background: Sophia's family wasn't very well-off to start with, and was rather poor until her father became a pirate. Eventually, her father's captain died and left the ship to him. As her father grew more infamous as a captain pirate he managed to find a more powerful ship, leaving Sophia with his old one at the age of 20. She eventually grew out of it and had a more impressive vessel built when she obtained enough gold for it (losing her canine tooth during a brawl in the process), keeping the same crew as before. However, casualties left her a few people short of a full crew, and with the upcoming challenge she is in search of a few more willing followers.

Other: She dislikes seagulls.

Eh, I might have gone a little overboard.
...Ha, that's a pun.

I'm fairly interested in this, and should this be the proper place for profiles, I have one to throw up after a tweak or two. Also, what place do things such as planes and submarines have in the RP, if any?

Hm... that's a thought... Planes and submarines can be available, but they will most likely look more like normal royal ships in the water--more for the wealthier class of people.

Well this seems to be just about right up my alley!
Any possibility of me nabbing one of the pirate captian slots? I have an idea for a small-time pirate captian with a more rag-tag crew and boat. Or I could fufill a smuggling position, if the plot allows for it. What do you think?
Anything can be accomplished with sufficient quantities of both boldness and ammunition.

Either way is fine. :) Heck, he/she could just be a small-time pirate captain that smuggles for the extra money on the side if you can't make up your mind. Glad to see you're interested!

Player: Mikey Wheels
Character: Argus Raleigh
Age: 27ish
Gender: Male
Position: Captian of the Bumblebee
Description: Argus typically wears a traditional chinese tudung kuwang hat (the pointed straw ones) because it protects his head from exposure when he's on the water. A stiff navy blue jacket with a high collar adorns his upper body, the big gold buttons left undone to show a black shirt underneath and a pocketwatch necklace he usually wears. A large belt holds up his trousers, which are nothing more than simple dark brown breeches, not too loose on his legs, but not too tight either. For physical appearence Argus sports long brown hair that he ties into a ponytail, with an all over body tan that you can only get from being seabound for months at a time. He's not very tall, around 5 feet 10 inches, but the presence he commands is much larger- the kind of presence that makes you want to trust a man with your life, becasue you're sure he'll pull through. Argus has a pair of sharp, green eyes and a rather flat nose, but is always ready to throw on his dashing grin for when things go his way.
Personality: Argus is a calm man, for a pirate captain. His ship is not very large at all, making him a firm believer in tactics rather than force. With his small crew, he can't hope to battle outright with bigger naval ships and escorts, and preaches that if it can't be done without his crew losing lives, it's not worth being done. Argus likes to believe that there is always a loophole- any situation can be thought out of so long as you have ingenuity and opportunity.
Weapons: Argus carries several knives on his person, one being a machete he keeps on his belt. In his right coat pocket he keeps a silenced 9mm handgun- his everyday soldier of personal defense. On his boat Argus keeps three 50mm sniper rifles for which he still wants to find silencers for. Those three rifles make up the bulk of the Bumblebee's offensive capabilities, the ship not having very many weapons itself. Argus himself an several of his crew are skilled snipers.
Background: Argus lived his whole life in a run down port in Portugal, loving to watch boats go out to sea and come in to port to drop off cargo. Young Argus observed the dock work, noting many instances were goods were exchanged behind backs and found patterns the shipping movements. When he became older he helped an old name named Roberto with his ship, eventually ending up with Argus inheriting it when Roberto died. Argus worked as a smuggler for a little under ten years, learning how to hide, sweet-talk, and escape sticky situations. Only in the past couple years has he worked up the courage to begin pirating with his hit and run techniques.

This looks fun! I'm in

Player: Light Mario

Character: Jack Orson

Age: Mid 20s

Gender: Male

Position: Thief (Citizen)

Description: Very lean and thin, messy brown hair, quick black eyes, badly shaven face, average nose and mouth, grayish skin which makes him look sickly, and certainly NOT an athletic body...there's always a fit of filthiness on his appearance even though he is not exactly a dirty person. He usually wears nothing too shiny, perhaps a Phrygian brown hat, a grey shirt, an old black belt found somewhere but still functional, ragged brown pants and brown shoes.

Personality: Jack tries to keep to himself as much as possible, since he considers himself boring, a bad talker, and lacking of good conversation topics. Most of his life this hasn't been an issue, since he has never had much people around. He is a bit pessimistic considers himself unlucky and not charmful (which is truth), however, this very trait makes him a "hard nut to crack". Jack will never surrender and is loyal to the extreme for those he trusts, specialy since he believes bad luck is merely the essence of his life, and that "he has come out from worse".

His only good trait for social skills is his expertise for magic tricks with cards...he often underestimate this though.

Weapons: Jack is more of a runner than a fighter. Though he looks weak and sickly, He is extremely agile, and skilled at running away using a technique similar to Parkour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jquXcwooV6A if it comes to fighting, he carries a dagger and a really old flintlock gun...he is not very skilled with neither.

Background: Jack has been very unlucky since he remembers...or so he believes. He was raised in an orphanage far from Sea Port Orion, where his sickly appearance made him a constant target for bullies, and not very popular with the rest of the kids. However, these constant chases forced him to be a quick, and to learn pretty advanced evasive maneuvers on his own, making him rather agile at a young age. Also, since his food was always stolen by the fore said bullies, he learned to "steal for a living" inside the orphanage. He made a couple friends in his childhood, but never made really strong bonds with any of them.

The day he left the orphanage, still not sure what to do with himself, destiny decided to make that decision for him. Some of his old bullies, still pissed at him for stealing their meals, chased him around the docks of the city until Jack finally tripped inside one of the ships...and more specifically inside a chest that locked itself after Jack fell in. He spent two days and nights trapped before the crew unloaded the cargo at the ship's destination, Sea Port Orion.

It's been six months since that. Jack currently makes a living out of pick pocketing and poker. However, even though he has never been caught at stealing or sent to prison, he remains a magnet for troubles...usually of minor nature. The life of a pirate frightens him, since he thinks it's too much for a lowly thief...but maybe going out to the sea or not is not his call. He is NOT a fighter, but his abilities include quick hands for pick pocketing and pick locking, his brilliant evasive maneuvers, being a skilled cheater at poker, and knowing a lot of magic tricks with cards...the only activities that seem not to be influenced by his luck.

Note: Since Jack spent most of his time alone in the orphanage, Jack learned many magic tricks and cheating skills for poker from an old book he found somewhere...and always keeps within himself (perhaps the only item he is sentimentally attached to). Its funny how this unfortunate soul is so skilled with the use of an item usually linked with "Good luck"

I hope this character is fitting for the RPG...
