Well i havent really been rping that long, i used to rp alot back when i was about 12 years old.
To be honest, when im looking for a roleplay, i look for an intriguing name that makes it sounds like there is going to be alot of action in it. I prefer to take part in futuristic Roleplays because i prefer the use of spaceships and futuristic weapons. Also because many of the previous Rps i have been apart of where Futuristic ones, like a Star wars genre or a Halo one.

Usually if i dont find the story line to interesting i will not join it. I dont mind if Moderators take part, i prefer it if they do because they must have some knowledge of how to Rp really well. If the roleplay has people that arent very imaginative, or they cant Rp i tend not to join, unless the story is very interesting. To me an interesting story is when there is detailed background of what is going on.
I tend to to join roleplays if they are real time ones, Im not a great fan at Fantasy ones, but if it has a nice plot to it, i dont mind joining it.The thing i hate most however is being ignored, it happens when u join after a few people have started there story and have joint up together, forming there own, which really does get on my left nipple.

If i ever have to leave a roleplay, it is usually because of school or life. If i find the roleplay is going no where i try to add to it, make it interesting. if i find it doesnt really help. i will leave. Also i will leave a roleplay if it is ruined by people that cannot Rp or just joined to ruin it for the fun of it.
Generally, i only ever leave a roleplay if i do not have the time on my hands. As i am growing older i find it harder to find the time to do this which i find quite upsetting in a sence, because i enjoy it.

Theres my opionion to your Questions.

When looking for new roleplays, what do you look for? Like, do you look for a certain genre (fantasy, futuristic etc..)? Or is it to do with literacy? Or is it simply a title sometimes that catches your eye?

Well, I have not joined a roleplay in a very long time, but I am attached to most Fantasy Roleplays with a wonderful plot. Also, it helps when people know how to spell and use their commas and semicolons. It gives me a higher respect for roleplayers in said category, and encourages me to join the roleplay they have made or have joined. I look for interesting titles, or maybe a hint of what I'm looking for. I was not a total noob when I first came to this site, but I was still very inexperienced, one of those joining the Vampire or Elemental high school roleplayers. I have, hopefully, become a better roleplayer since then, and I seek originality.

What stops you from joining a roleplay? Is it that there are moderators in it? If so, why? Or is it there another factor, the players, the idea, etc.

What stops me? Sadly, that is all too easy to answer. If I see any fan based roleplays, I am immediately put off. Twilight, Naruto, and the latter always seem to end badly, and begin badly in my eyes, for they have no sense of originality and have people joining because of the fact that they want to play the characters they see in their TV shows or manga. Also, since the vampire/werewolf craze, I have refused to join anything too generic. If the vampire genre are like Edward and Bella, I refuse, and it's not hard to guess why.
Also, illiteracy irks me. I hate chat speak, and it makes me feel demotivated to want to post and join. If you are too lazy to type the word out, then you are not truly motivated to put effort into the roleplay itself, no?

Also, when I do see roelplays Mods have made, I do feel a tad shy. Mod and Admin roleplays often ask much of their roleplayers, and at other times where they do not, their splendid roleplaying makes me nervous. I feel that since my roleplaying is not top notch as it is, I might bring down the quality of the roleplay, and I do not want to be bothersome to people who could be enjoying it without me to drag it down. I do care about fellow Rp'ers and what entertains them. If I believe I will not stand up to their standards, I will not join for their sake.

Imehal wrote:I do prefer roleplaying with people who know where to put their commas, paragraphs and speech marks. I totally get that not every piece of literature is perfect and have found some funny typos in actual novels in the past but I like to be able to feel like we're creating a story, and not just killing time.

I agree with Imehal on that point wholeheartedly. I also think roleplay is supposed to be enjoyable, and makes you anticipate the post of all it's members. Hogging the spotlight and groups of people who ignore one on or a few on it's own is very offsetting, even offensive in some cases. I have had some bizarre, yet truly unique in my perspective, characters that I have entered in roleplays, and they are ignored. Why? The popular/generic character hogs attention.

-One thing caught my eye whilst reading other replies: Roleplay with setting and situation, but no specific plot. I have joined many roleplays in the past, on other forms, without plot, and they ranged for many pages. They were quite fun, and a plot was molded as time went on. It seems different here, on Gateway, and I have no idea why. The roleplaying in general here has a different feel to it.

And lastly, what makes you drop out of a roleplay? Is it because it's too slow? Illiteracy? What exactly?

I saw someone with the same answer here: I have never truly dropped out of an RP. Most RP's that I have dropped out of was forceful, because I am so busy with homework, school, sports, the like. Even then, I have been able to straggle and leap my character out of the story so I am not such a bother, or else I tell the GM, though I believe this has happened only once before.

I'm not terribly active yet, mainly because I'm waiting for the dang OOC's etc to go up for stuff... and I'm not really big on the chat. It moves too fast for my likes.
But I'll bite on this -

* When looking for new roleplays, what do you look for? Like, do you look for a certain genre (fantasy, futuristic etc..)? Or is it to do with literacy? Or is it simply a title sometimes that catches your eye?
Usually it's the concept that catches my eye, and like everyone else literacy is important. I have one person whom I roleplay with whom has a few issues with this, but that's because they are dyslexic. I don't want to see other people typing a post like their mentally challenged in some way. (no offense to anyone) My main genre is Science Fiction/Space Opera, but I really won't touch High Fantasy. I'm not a fan of Elves, Drow the like. Vampire/Werewolf/Paranormal that area can be very entertaining if done right. No school rps please. Period.

* What stops you from joining a roleplay? Is it that there are moderators in it? If so, why? Or is it there another factor, the players, the idea, etc.
GM sometimes, I feel that they got a concept confused and wanted too much control over how the players would create characters.
Sometimes it's the idea, or I get a paragraph of a response on my interest in it, or someone does not appreciate my asking questions about the roleplay's concept. I know that if you divulge too much of a plot it's no fun, but usually I have a question about characters and the world we're supposed to be playing in.

* And lastly, what makes you drop out of a roleplay? Is it because it's too slow? Illiteracy? What exactly?
Too slow and short posts.
The last year I have been limited to semi-paragraph roleplay, and because of this I have gotten into some really bad habits post wise.
I hate badgering people with the phrase "Can you post a little more please?" or "I've got nothing." and it's all because of a short post with so little information or content. It's a group effort, act like it... >>;

I'd post my opinions I guess

* When looking for new roleplays, what do you look for? Like, do you look for a certain genre (fantasy, futuristic etc..)? Or is it to do with literacy? Or is it simply a title sometimes that catches your eye?

answer : uniqueness, plot
I don't really care about genres. I have enough (just enough though) knowledge to do any genre, from fantasy to sci-fi, from dystopia to post-apocalyptic, and I enjoy imagining myself in those different situations.
The thing that I look for when searching for a roleplay to join is uniqueness. When a roleplay is unique, it is less likely to get boring. I'll even join a high school RP if it has enough levels of uniqueness and creativity, and a plot of course.
Next is the plot. I think we all agree that a roleplay without a plot is a bad roleplay. An open plot is enough for me, simply put us in point A and give us point B as a destination. As long there's an end goal in mind, I'd have no objections to join.

* What stops you from joining a roleplay? Is it that there are moderators in it? If so, why? Or is it there another factor, the players, the idea, etc.

answer : 17 paragraphs per post with "exquisite" details about a single droplet of rain falling from the sky, or to put simply, too much literacy requirements
I'm not a one liner roleplayer, but I'm not someone that writes 5++ paragraphs with so much details that it just closes off any chances for other players to contribute to the setting. I write 1-2 paragraphs with enough details for others to act based on my post, while not going too long so that the post contains too much action or gets in the way of someone else's creativity. Also, a page long post that can be summed up to 2 paragraphs is a massive waste of time to read. I roleplay because I want to play as my character to take part in a story, not to read a screen full of text and be obliged to reply with another wall of text. To tell you the truth, I'd rather roleplay with a one liner than with an "ultra literate" roleplayer.

* And lastly, what makes you drop out of a roleplay? Is it because it's too slow? Illiteracy? What exactly?

None. I won't get out of a roleplay till it dies.

sorry if I made any major smelling errors

It's less like "Mister Eye-ous" and more like "mysterious."

Damn, I feel stupid.

To be more precise than what I typed above: Abused Stereotypes, bland plots, anything to do with "slave and master" "magic Harry Potter school" "Twilight" etc etc. Lack of detail (Less than two paragraphs) too much detail (More than fourteen paragraphs is pushing it) etc etc. I also tend to drift away from Roleplays which do not fall under either the Fantasy or Sci-Fi categories as Fantasy is a "tried and true" love and Sci-Fi is simply so strange, unique, and out there that if you can manage to make one it's pretty hard to turn into a stereotype.

"What makes me drop out of a Roleplay.."
I hate leaving Roleplays however what will cause me to gravitate to leaving is if the people I am Roleplaying with tend to push my character away from the group or themselves, complete one lining illiteracy, and lastly if everyone types up posts the size of chapters. Either they are filled with enough filler to describe the same bush using three paragraphs or they move so far ahead of everyone else around them that it makes you wonder: Does he assume that my character sat there awestruck with is beautiful looks for five minutes while he walked off into the sunset, leaving me behind while slaying the entire bandit encounter and saving the damsel all in the length of one post? After all Roleplays are like children: Underfeeding has the obvious side effect of starving them, but overfeeding can kill them too. It's just a slower death.

I agree completely! Too many times have I been turned off even to a point system of people. "Oh there integrity is fifty points..." Really? If you need a point system to track people then that is completely pathetic. I also hate Mary-Sues as well. I swear that is the major quitter for me when a Mary-Sue infects a thread with their constant need to be in the lime-light. Ah, some people these days.
