This place will have many opinions, so I'll state mine. My favorites are the opening themes to Gungrave and Baki the Grappler. The former has traditional oriental type music to an American bass guitar that mixes together well. The latter has a heavy metal opening theme consistent with a fighting anime.

Wow, this is very cool, I've never heard of any of these anime! I'll have to check them out.
Miy favorite has to be the music from .Hack/Sign and the opening to Fooly Cooly. Although the ending themes for Inuyasha always bring something soothing and memorable to the table.

Probably the most beatiful singing I've ever heard was the first cut scene in Devil May Cry 4. It was a beautiful, opera-style song. I know it's not an anime, but it's still worth mentioning.

FLCL aka Fooly Cooly has great music to bad it ended so early so many things could have been done with it.

Easily .hack//SIGN is among the tops for this. Incredible soundtrack, amazing compositions the entire way through.

I know a few of them. The music from FLCL/Fooly cooly was done by the Pillows, if anyone is interested and I'm trying to find the .Hack/Sign album online but I really don't know how to shop online. If anyone has a track or two, I'd appreciate it >,<
Has anyone ever heard of Tsushimamire, I'm looking for them also, but If you haven't heard anything of theirs yet, you should! It's a really random Jpunk sound, but it's amazing!

Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re is definitely a little on the eccentric side, and the punk elements only shine through on a few songs of their's, while the rest definitely run a very wide and eclectic spectrum of sounds. Definitely have this also, though.

MAcross Frontier. To be honest, this anime is made of great classical singing, and to be honest Yoko Kano is responsible for at least, 90% of the musical composition in so called "Good Anime" such as Cowboy Bebop, Vision of Escaflowne, the Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series, Wolf's Rain, and Macross Plus. Ok, this is now a Yoko Kano is a godly singer post, but C'est La vie!

Does anyone know where the 1rst and 2nd Death Note themes come from, that's probably the only heavy metal I'll listen to, unless anyone has any suggestions?

Believe it or not, those Death Note themes are well beyond just "heavy metal", and one of them is actually a death metal song, called "What's Up People?" by a band "Maximum the Hormone."
Also, in reference to what Ryand said, Yoko Kanno is being eclipsed by Yuki Kajiura now and I personally am inclined to believe that Kajiura is better. Among her known compositions are Noir, the .hack series, Tsubasa Chronicle, My-HiME, and the Xenosaga games along with many others and she's constantly joining new projects to compose.

That's good to know her name spacifically, I do know some of her music and she does have a great voice. There's another person who's last name I don't know though. Fujita ___, she is the one responsible for the Speed Grapher ending theme and it's amazing. Like a folk song but a bit more relaxing.
If you've never seen Speed Grapher, it's not a "kid's show" but it's amazing in content and character. Check it out on Youtube or IFC (sat chanal 131 cable, I don't know.)

Cowboy Bebop.
I LOOOOOVE all of the songs in it.
This may sound corny, but Inuyasha has pretty good OPs and EDs too. So does GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka.)

Yay, I'm so glad someone out there has heard of Speed Grapher, and just as glad that someone's willing to admit that they've heard of Cowboy Bebop. I'm trying to start a cowboy Bebop RP, but no one seems to be biting. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE CRAP THAT A CHIHUAHUA RP IS GETTING MORE FANFARE THAN CLASSIC ANIME! No offense to anyone if they belong to or have written that particular rp, but I think it's one of the worst idea's I've ever heard. (that's just my opinion)

Haha, honestly I thought the same about that Chihuahua role-play. I was all 'WHY?!' It is a unique idea though. You've gotta give it props for that.
I haven't finished watching Cowboy Bebop, but when I will, I'll join your role-play.
Speaking of role-plays, do you still want to play the Riddler in my Batman one?
