World of Warcraft is NOT the first RPG, not by a long shot. Before any of the Warcrafts even came out you hade stuff like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout (both computer games) Heroquest (boardgame). And don't forget about the all-time Roleplaying master-piece/classic: Dungeons and Dragons.

I don't think D&D is the first RPG, but it sure as hell is one of the best and most influential in the RP'ing genre of life.

The person who wrote that article needs a smack in the back of the head. The first ancestors of the modern RPG was/is Tactics, a Board Wargame fist published in 1954 and the Society for Creative Anachronism, which was founded in the mid-sixties.
