[Under Construction]
Plot Summary
Aaron stumbles upon a transport device during a spelunking trip with his uncle in the American mid-west. He accidentaly activates it, and it transports him to an extraterrestrial space ship. After a series of events, he is recruited for an pangalactic police force of sorts that helps combat crime, this particular branch specializing stopping the interference of underdeveloped planets from unauthorized advanced civilation contact, along with helping protect planets from destroying themselves. (Earth being a prime example of one of the planets which they have had to visit many times. Each planet is categorized in 5 tiers of Development;

  • Tier 1: Underdeveloped planet
Primitive planet, on the verge of technology, any contact from extra-terrestrial life may be mistake as “gods”. Technology is primitive, virtually nonexistent. Contact is restricted to all advanced civilizations. Population is about equivalent with all other creatures.
Earth Comparison Era(E.C.E): Stone age, (Approx. 3mil BC- Approx. between 6000-2500BC)
  • Tier 2: Developing Planet
Civilized Planet, one or more races have evolved to the point in which they can solve problems and reach a sense of order (i.e. Government) Technology is moderate, ranging from advanced pulley systems to basic wood and stone architecture. Pulling away from the notion that the universe is run by unknown forces, now delving more into astronomy. Contact is restricted to Authorities, and no others. population increases to more than average races.
      E.C.E: Medieval Age, (450AD-1500 AD)
  • Tier 3: Developed planet
Technology evolving at a rapid rate, discovery of motorization and fuel, alternate light sources, (Electricity) and the beginnings of flight. later portion of this era may be the dawn of telecommunications. Science is widely, if not completely dominant of society's development. Population explodes.
      E.C.E: Industrial Age, (1800AD-1900AD)
  • Tier 4: Monitored Planet
Population dominates others. Technology has reached the dawn of advanced civilization, including augmented reality, World telecommunications, Space flight and artificial satellites, Interplanetary travel has been successful, And contact of some form has been made with other planets, though understanding has not been made. Contact admitted, revealing true Identity restricted to only special Groups in the civilization. (Area 51 on earth, Think Men in Black). This planet is on the verge of completing it's development.
      E.C.E: Modern age, (1930AD-Present Day)
  • Tier 5: Advanced Planet
Interstellar travel has been achieved, Hyperdrive/Wormhole creation/Starway creation has been achieved, Planet now knows of other life, technology has reached intergalactic telecommunications. Planet will now be considered for positions in galactic politics and decisions. Contact unrestricted.
      E.C.E: "The Future"

I want to make this a series, and the first book being him going to a Tier 2 planet, Investigating something that I haven't decided yet, Perhaps an illegal group interfering with the development of the planet. I will admit, I got part of the inspiration from Star Ocean: Till the end of Time, Even if it does not get published I still want to write it as a sort of fan-fic sort of thing, (It would be my first) So basically I want to see if anyone here would show interest for this thing. Thanks to everyone who replies.

As your post stands, your plot has no true conflict. Obviously, I expect you will flesh this out, but without a conflict of some kind, you have no story. Also, the Tiers will inevitably become such a small aspect of your book that it really wasn't worth explaining them all. The status of those planets, which generates characters of varying demeanor, will be what motivates people to read.

If you are serious about getting your story published, expect it to be rejected many, many times. When an editor does like what he reads, expect it to morph into a different version of what it was before it starts shipping. Know that you will have to change things you don't want to change for the sake of publication. Writing a good, well-thought out book is a full time pursuit with moderate time-based risk and often little reward, and requires hundreds of hours of work to create anything resembling a polished novel. Even making the New York Times best seller's list, which seldom happens, does not guarantee any huge profit; often authors must pay to print their books out of pocket to self-publish until some publishing company sees your work and deems it a profitable venture to pay for those costs in your stead. Some people do make a living off of writing, but the number of people that do so is confined to four or five digits worldwide in the way you're thinking of doing it.

In short, I wish you the best of luck on your arduous road to author-dom, and hope you have the passion required to see something like this through. I once wrote a story of ~80 pages, and it was complete garbage. It took me about a hundred hours to write, and I did not have to create the world or characters it took place in.

{Font=Palatino Linotype] Thanks for responding! :D And yeah I included that because it was all I had thought out for now, It will probably be explained in the story as a minor thing, But I still have to find a way to make a conflict. I truly appreciate what you wrote, it was very informative and helpful. I figured it would be a lot of work, but I don't mind, And if it does end up being just some internet series type of thing, it is all good with me. I just want to see how far I can stick with this. But yeah, I have to find some major conflict to keep the story going. It's still in it's conceptual phase, so It's very empty right now, I just wanted to check people's interest. But again, thank you for this, I appreciate it very much.[/font]

Meh, you need a bit more plot explanation but sounds like a good start. I'm writing one too so if you like you can PM me and we can chat about "Novelists stuff"

I would read it for sure. I know virtually nothing about star Ocean other than it is a popular video game but as someone who does not read a lot of science fiction I would still read it. My uncle would be interested for sure as I see a lot of military-type reading potential in it as well.

I know that you said you would like to make it in to a series but since you have not written a book before (published or not) then might I suggest you try dividing it in to a series of short stories? By doing that it could take away from the overwhelming feeling of having so much information and could help give you a better feeling of accomplishment as you finish each short story. You could divide these short stories up in any way you like whether they are more akin to a couple of chapters or you just write out each mission as its own story. Just don't overwhelm yourself as it seems like it is quite a project and it would be a shame if it did not get finished because you became discouraged.

Also, the great thing about short stories is that if you ever did get a chance to have it published then it would be easier to combine those stories in to a whole novel or even a couple of novels (after some editing, of course).

It is a really great idea, though but ideas don't write books; writers do so get to writing!!!!! lol

However you decide to do it, I hope to read it some day whether it is on here or I pick it up at my local bookstore. xD
