Yeah, the houses are kept close to each other, unless somebody wants to play loner and magically move his house away.

Since I've been so busy, I suppose I should rethink my character, just for the sake of the roleplay, would it be better if I was a native Osarian or a human? I have an idea for both, and I would lean towards the native, but just wondering which would be better for the roleplay as a whole?

Either works nicely, but seeing as how you're leaning towards an Osarian and we have few of them... There's your pick, methinks. Lucky you did answer, too; I'll have to give Xerox's spot to Flickery if he doesn't respond soon.

It's getting off to a great start guys, we already have the amount of words some RP's never achieve before they did, and in a small number of posts. Great writing and keep it up. We just need a bit more interaction, and then we can get the story really going.

Guys, is there anything you feel like doing for your first side quest? This is only to awaken magic in the mages and teach everyone the basics behind their weapons, so encounters won't be too tough.

On the subject of posts, yes, let's keep up that effort. Let's try and avoid going back and forth with two characters or leaving posts without spell-checking, please. I'm sure we can all pride in looking at the finished work sometime later, eh?

Maybe the city could be raided by the bad guy or something? Maybe something that ties into our main quest. We could each be accompanied by a native Osarian of the class we are each striving for? I dont know, just a suggestion.

Maybe the King sends the humans to give a NPC a letter, and along the way they get ambushed by grunts of whatever is the main antagonist of the RP.

I would vote for something similar to what Cazz said. Maybe we are sent to deliver something, or retrieve something to prove we are the real deal. Maybe some sacred object that awakens either something in us, or we awaken something in it.

What Chexmix said that we are accompanied by someone more experienced sounds like a good idea, although I'm not so sure each one of us should have a NPC companion each, that would make it quite a big crowd. That's what I think either way.
The accumulation of their filth will foam up around their waists, and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, 'SAVE US.' and I'll look down and whisper,'no'.

There could be one two or three NPC companions accompanying the whole group, without making the whole crowd such a handful. It doesn't mean you won't progress in your class if there's no mentor NPC around, I think we'd learn as we go along the way.

For example, a paladin may not need to learn from another paladin. He could do equally well exchanging pointers with a diviner and a swordsman seperately, train by himself or until he meets another crusader. Furthermore, characters themselves can be mentors to other characters if they have progressed slightly faster ahead.

We don't have to limit ourselves to the game mechanics of common MMOs, trainers/spellbooks so on. This is a freeform, as long as it's realistic and well reasoned it's viable.

Name: Aloea Odigaunt
Age: A gentleman doesn't ask, a lady doesn't tell, appears to be about 30-40, infinitely older
Gender: Female
Hails from: The Island of Aruvorne in Osar
Species: Nymph

Possessions: A 2 foot long stylus, with a pearl tip, this is accompanied by precisely three scrolls of silk. She also carries a variety of pipes and flasks, and what appear to be some spices and salts.
Her weapons include two slender falcatas at her sides ((A falcata is a curved sword with the sharpened edge on the inside of the curve, as in --->) not like a scimtar, where the curve is on the outside )<---)). She has another larger falcata on her back, but the curve is incredibly delicate, and the dull edge of the blade has spikes along it. Aloea is not foreign to magic, but Nymphs dislike magic as they find it to be against the nature of the world.
She also has a bow made from elk antlers which she uses for hunting, she doesn't even carry a quiver, the arrows are in her traveling bag.

Appearance: Nymphs are by definition, beautiful. Aloea wouldn't be an exception, except years of self-degradation have aged her considerably, for a nymph. Her cheekbones are still high, and her skin supple, but there is a distinct mark of age on her brow. Her eyes are horrifying and spectacular, with whites of green and irises of white, with a dark green pupil, and they are usually seen through a curtain of black hair, straight as an arrow and somewhat lacking in luster. She has a swimmers physique, a trademark of any nymph, and stands at an imposing 6'5" she is not lacking muscle, but she still has a femininity to her, something she is proud of.

Aloea wears a long brown tunic, said to be mythically soft, one of the few spells she knows. Over this she wears leather, a breastplate of it with a few metal scales about it. She wears solid metal bands on her forearms and legs, and they have a latticework of leather across them, for her gloves and armored sandals. Her neck is protected by a bit of leather. Over this she wears a cloak of midnight blue, which has leather and metal on the inside, and the hood can snap to a sort of tiara headpiece she wears to keep it steady. This cloak is bound up in a silver brooch on her left breast. This brooch can attatch to the clasp on her large bag which she carries over her shoulder, made of leather, it carries her traveling supplies and other necessities and luxuries.

Personality: Aloea still holds on to her "male" ambition, and is somewhat neurotic. She absolutely hates elves, as she is often mistaken for one, which can lead to a very unfortunate scene. She will always pass being sad and just get mad, and usually brings herself out of such frenzies with a quick smoke or some other vice. She has her distinct sense of values, and if one looks through the grit, it is obvious she loves her world, as any nymph, and doesn't want to see it wither.

Short bio: Aloea is somewhat famous for being the only nymph with ambition. Throughout history, nymphs were famous for running away and never taking a stand, Aloea broke this trend be surpassing the usual tomboyish lifestyle of a nymph and becoming a warrior. She hated the fact that people only respected her for her beauty, and actually used this to her advantage. She explained that she would marry any man who could best her in battle, but from then on, she took up smoking, drinking, and all varieties of self degradation, to defy her natural beauty. A few men actually succeeded in marrying her, but she won her "freedom" from them.

She has since moved from pub to pub, hunting for her food, sober or otherwise, and teaching men around the world a lesson. She has an incredible proficiency with her swords, and made them herself. She came to hate the idea of fencing and showmanship, as she considers them "male creations, and in male fashion, are meant to impress, not kill" she knows that if someone is going to kill you, they deserve to die.
She is usually the only nymph any of the people of Osar ever see in their lifetime, she often humors people by speaking the trilled nymphish language, so that they may say they've heard it. She's a sort of celebrity.

If asked, Aloea would call herself a swordswoman, a huntress, but most of all, a nymph, and therefore not needing any further description.

I've been curious for sometime now, actually, what exactly is plaguing this world? Is it some diabolical mad man with a lust to see the world destroyed, or some natural disaster like what is said to going to be happening in 12/21/2012, or something entirely different?

It would be a good idea to map that out now instead of down the line as we know but the characters won't until later. If its been said already, I'm sorry but I'd like to hear it again. I did my best to read every post (which took awhile because I had to work and you guys went post happy, lol).

Also, since the question at hand is about having a more experienced hand being present while the hero's journey on their quest, I have positioned my character, Elrohir, in Inging, waiting on an audience with the king. He is an elf that is skilled in magic and fighting and such. Having a constant NPC around could be dicey, because if he/she is portrayed one way and everyone is allowed to use said character it could get out of hand as far as the character is concerned (if the whole fact is that everyone can play the NPCs). That and I think it would be great character development being that he, Elrohir, personally hates the fact that strangers are there to save them and he believes that he can save Osar himself along with the other Osarians, but he has to do what the king tells him to because he's loyal like that~

If you do go with the whole NPC thing, I'd suggest that you split the groups up, it would make the story go along faster so not everyone would have to wait for others who have busy lives (like me, lol).

I don't know, just an idea being thrown out.

I'll be keeping the major evils to myself, Underworlder, so it doesn't spoil the story for you guys. I'm going to tell you this much: it is not a catastrophe on its own, if at all.

I'm sorry to log on so relatively late (summer break means I usually log on after breakfast >.<) but I'm having a bit of a sick day. I'll get us moving in a little bit, possibly in an hour or so.

Regarding NPCs, they'll be for personal use to ensure they're not misplayed by others. Also, I've decided on the first side quest (it'll involve the suggestions to some extent); if anybody would like to make a profile for their NPCs you may do so. The group will not be split, by the way; this is to ensure we don't need more threads. Lastly, I've already spoken to the quick posters and have their word this won't happen again. Thanks for your concern.

I understand that you would like to keep it hidden, but how do the Osarian's know what's going on? Do they really know they are endanger? If its just because the appearance of the Heroes it would be rather superficial for the Osarian's to assume they are in peril. I have nothing against you keeping who or what is against us, I'm doing the same thing with my thread, but I'd like to know how they know... uh if you get what I'm trying to say.

As for the group splitting up, I didn't mean to make an entirely new thread. I was meaning to avoid a really huge party of some eight people, plus each of their own NPC. I was just mentioning how confusing that might be.

... um, never mind.

A few general NPCs, as Flickery said, for one. For another, I've yet to mention they know of the impending danger; thus far it took Enurn's court of priests to find out about it. This means if anyone knows, it's through a link with him-- this should all just come up odd to Osar, perhaps the more knowledgeable know it's the prophecy happening.

Underworlder, would you mind If your character met my character in some sort of way? My character is waiting in Inging for the king. Just wondering.

As for our meeting with the king, I'm assuming you will control him, Safisan? Will that be after this small side quest?

I'll take care of controlling the guy, Chexmix, and yes, I'll be after this side quest is completed. If you're desperate for action, you could follow the odd screams or you could wait on destiny to give you something; destiny's just posted though, so you may be better off going there for a little blood.

Short Bio: Mareak was born into the village of Drachenyal; a small village of traders and farmers, but he never much cared for the affairs of them and always wandered off into the forest and admired the scenery. Then a group of renegade bandits attacked his village and killed his mother and father. He was left an orphan, but it did not take him long to overcome their deaths for instead he was filled with the desire to train. When he heard of the prophecy of heroes a silent rage grew within him to protect his destroyed home and his forest, and really the world itslef, so he packed his fathers armor and set off to save the land, little did he know he would have people to accompany him.

I'm working on a character. It may be a while, yet... Just wanted to give a heads-up, since the grace period for advance entries is about to end and all.

Well assuming you've read (and will stick to) the rules you're accepted, Xerox. This applies to everyone, I merely don't wish to send more PMs so I'm gonna write this over and over in the OOC ^^. Make way to the IC now if you'd like.

Thanks for the announcement, Vermilion, I'll wait on the character then. With this profile, I am in the right to say the OOC is closed to further sign ups, invite or not. Anybody else who wishes to register may PM a profile and wait on a slot.
