"They'll come, sir, t-the royal archmage Fassar is working on it as we speak, your Highness."
"That's not enough for me! I wish to see them, in flesh and blood right now!"
With the most vague of whimpers, the scrawny man dressed in silly, colorful robes walked backwards, away from the grand throne. On it was Lord Enurn III, their king since most alive had memory. But just whom are they calling forth? There is a myth, one degraded into legend and once more into a mere prophesy that states clearly the following:
'When the world is in grave danger, when those of black hearts amongst the pure are shown, they will come. Adventurers, those of the most rare breeds within Osar. They shall join the ranks of Osarians and march forth, for it is only them that may seal the darkness once more...'
Ever since Inging palace had been discovered, -at the time an abandoned large castle- this text had haunted them all, written in blood in the back wall of the largest throne room. King Enurn knew little of the darkness awakening, in fact i had been some of the royal priests and priestesses that had discovered this large surge in evil. They could only feel its deadly intent, not pinpoint at a glance; for all they knew, it could be standing, or rather sitting right beside them...
Regardless, their Highness had been warned of this evil at once and had been told of the preparations required for the ritual to take place. In a dark room, somewhere hidden in a myriad of underground cells is Fassar, the greatest mage known in the more evident regions of Osar, a human, he alone wrote mysterious symbols in the pitch black walls, all with an odd yellow substance.
Who are these heroes, anyway? You may be thinking that just now... See, the rarest breed in Osar are us! Humans, from the corners of our planet, they are all being summoned into the world of Osar in order to fulfill the prophecy as the saviors of the land...
Yep, magic. For all of you who like blowing up your enemies with style! Know that if you're not from Osar you'll have no knowledge on the subject, save for a natural affinity towards certain spells. Props to Pioneercadet for these rules regarding the system, if you see him, give him a big thanks ^^.
1. The abilities of a magic user are limited by the character's experience with magic and not their physical strength.
2. A person uses life energy when performing magic. This causes strain to their bodies, meaning if a magic user pushes themselves too hard, their magic could backfire or they could possibly die.
3. A mage can replenish some, and eventually all, of his spent life-force by resting.
4. There are three paths a person can take when it pertains to magic:
* A person can decide to use and train their magical ability to a bare minimum and depend on physical strength. A person who chooses this path has fewer defenses against magic.
* A person can decide to use and train their magical ability to attempt balancing magical aptitude with strength, using magic to augment their physical attacks. A person who follows this path can easily balance magic and strength in battle and often use one to increase the power of the other.
* A person can decide to use and train their magical ability to the point that they become magically adept, sacrificing physical strength for power. However, followers of this path have little resistance to attack and depend solely on their magic to keep them alive.
5. Magic users naturally have a higher aptitude in certain abilities than others. These aptitudes are usually found when the user is in a dire situation and their mind unlocks their abilities in order to save the user. However, there are certain other "tests" that can be used to determine magical affinity.
6. Some magical abilities are rarer than others. Some may even be so rare that they are considered unique. However, the way a mage uses a certain magic can make it their own just as much as the magic they use.
7. Magic users perform better when they have something to protect. This is due to the fact that a person's will is stronger when they have something to fight for.
Whom do I play as again?
I'm glad you ask, there's actually a little tidbit here skimmers are going to miss out on. You have the choice between being someone from Earth being called over to Osar or an Osarian, your mission is the same however: save Osar. Of course, whether your character agrees with it or not is another deal entirely...
Any other 'races?'
Yes and no. No because races are within species, yes because what you might know as a 'race' will be presented here. Generic elves, trolls, giants, dwarves, goblins and the like are available. Note there is no race information to allow you to describe them as you like.
Do I get to bring in anything from Earth?
Nope! You'll find you have a little home, some possessions and a few other trinkets from King Enurn himself when you're brought here. Note that doesn't mean you'll know how to use them, perhaps along the way somebody can teach you to wield that sword yes? Or maybe if you find someone knowledgeable enough, he may teach you magic...
Where do I start out?
Preferably somewhat close Palace Inging, as the players should regroup before getting told of the prophecy. You may, if you want to, start out close to somebody else's character if you get their permission. Also, you may know a character prior to starting out if you ask the owner's permission.
Why are there no sign ups?
Several users showed interest in a previous thread and gave their opinions and ideas to help this be possible. As such, it's only fair they get to register first, perhaps at a later date you may do so. For the time being, swing me a PM with a profile and I'll keep it in mind. This does not mean you'll have priority over those in the interest check.
If I see one of the interested people has received their invite but hasn't posted within 3 days, the first profile sent to me will be considered for the spot, and so on.
How do I keep up with those strict writing limits?
Well for length, you should wait a while before posting once more, this'll give you more to reply to and ensure you're not just interacting for the sake of having a post. On that matter, try not to avoid interaction too much, as this really turns the story into a contest for the spotlight. Are you having trouble with your English? Firefox has a built-in spell checker and will kindly mark in red any spelling errors you may have, however you'll need to install a dictionary for this purpose, a link to the US English dictionary is here. You could always paste your post on Word or another word processor and use the spell-checker there.
What are the rules?
While the land of Osar is free to some extent (even then there are laws there), you'll find the following vital if you don't want to be kicked from the game:
Posts should be:
- Frequent, but not so much you drown the topic with them, if you notice almost all of the players involved have posted after your latest post, go ahead.
- Of a decent length, minimum of 300 words per reply, no exceptions unless you send me a valid reason for writing less. Even then, I'll likely just offer you help to make a better post.
- Free of godmodding and metagaming to keep the game as pure as the Osarians ^^.
People should be:
- Committed to the game.
- Respectful of his fellow players.
- Aware of the rules and that these may change at any given point to something less broad.
- Able and willing to use the OOC!
The GM will:
- Accept your suggestions for a side quest or plot and do his best to add them in.
- Send you a PM when something is up with your post, asking you to edit it out.
- Announce changes to the rules.
- Ensure there is balance amongst the players. This isn't an all-mage run through a game, nor is it going to be just Osarians duking it out.
- Make the game play out nicely. If it's an issue with the story, it may be changed. If it's an issue with a player, they can and will be kicked.
Just this last bit!
