"I'm the son of rage and love.."
Danni looked down in surprise as her phone called out Nicole's updated ring tone. Nicole hadn't called her since she'd came on to Lucas, so what did she want now? Hesitantly she picked up the phone and hit Accept Call.
"Hello?"
"What are you doing?"
She sounded scared, which confused Danni even more. "Nicole? That is you?"
She didn't speak again, but she thought she could hear a struggle. What was going on? "Nicole!"
"Lucas stop please!"
"What?!" It took her about five seconds to realise what must be happening, and she hung up the phone. She called for Christan before remembering he'd gone out - to replenish his supply of blood packs, ironically - and sighed as she grabbed her jacket and left the house.
She didn't have much to go on, so she started out for Nicole's house, and soon she was hearing the last of her screams as she ran down the street. "Lucas!" She threw herself at him, knocking him off Nicole, and grabbed his shoulders. Her first - and, for the moment, only - thought was of him; his eyes were much darker than she'd ever seen them, and, if she was honest, it frightened her. "Lucas, stop it. Please." She dragged her gaze away from him when she realised that there was no sound coming from Nicole, and she screamed when she saw the amount of blood pouring onto the pavement.
Releasing Lucas, she scrabbled across the floor to her friend and pulled her head into her lap. There were tears in her eyes as she murmured nonsense words to Nicole, telling her that she would be okay, that she shouldn't be scared. But eventually Nicole's eyes closed, and Danni didn't need to check to know that she wasn't breathing. She looked up at Lucas, tears rolling down her cheeks; for the first time, she looked at him with obvious fear in her eyes. "She's dead," she breathed.
