Examining from the other side of Adam, Collette smiled. "I don't see why not." Collette supposed the more people -- the more people he could actually trust -- the better. He placed the viola along with the strap, around his shoulder again and they continued to walk.

"Do you think we could stop by that string shop as well?" Collette mentioned, thinking it'd be best if his was prepared if he ever needed to replace a string when they were out in the middle of nowhere.

"Sure, you're in charge here, I don't exactly have a shopping list. Not for here anyways." Adam said. The three of them continued down until they arrived at a shop labled 'the Golden String'. There where all sorts of stringed instruments displayed in the window. Harps, violins, Bass, guitars and lutes, but most of all spools and spools of string and wire. At the desk sat a spindly old man reading some sort of letter. He paid no mind to the new customers.

"So...how exactly do you know what sort of string you're looking for in all this?" Adam asked as they walked in.

Collette's smile had spread into a grin as they had walked in, paying no mind to the shop owner as he did to them.

"They have sort of different strings for all instruments," Collette replied softly beginning to look around. "Violas will have different strings compared to other viols." He looked around for anything labeled viol. "It also depends on the size."

He scanned the shop's walls and shelves and anything else that might hold the strings he was looking for. He would eventually spot something labeled "viola." Shop owners like this usually made their own strings as well, and Collette liked those.

Collette liked to look for those called Synthetic Strings, which had a bright as well as warm sound. He spotted a set, coiled up in a small bag made of clear white linen. Though, since he was going to be traveling, he figured he'd pick up full metal strings as well, since it was likely that most people would like the bright cheery sounds for dancing and drinking.

Altogether it would only cost him a gold piece or two and he had some money of his own to spare. He dug out the coin and prepared to buy the two bags of strings.

"And then of those strings for different instruments they have different strings." The bags were probably as nice as the strings within them. The clear linen was strong and smooth, buying himself strings felt like receiving gifts.

Adam raised his eyebrows as the pair tailed Collette around the shop. "Didn't know it was that complex." He murmured in a somewhat fascinated tone. Adam prodded at a few strings, having a look at them and the man at the desk gave him a dirty look but said nothing. Adam wasn't damaging them or anything. He took Collette's coin without saying much of anything and gave him a respectful nod.

"D'you have any close friends in the business?" Kon asked as they left the shop. "Partners or...band mates that you'd share drinks with on occasion?"

"I mean, we thieves have our business partners, people we work with but wouldn't trust with anything important and we have our drinking mates, people we compete with just to create bonds or establish reputation over. How does it work for a musician? Do y'all just get along and respect one another as equals? Like some mutual understanding, 'Hey, I play music you play music we're like brethren!'"

Adam looked over at Kon from the other side of Collette. It was actually a pretty good question one he hadn't thought about. He'd shown Collette everything he did and everything he knew of thieving in terms of how it all worked behind the scenes but he didn't know anything about how musicians did it. How did a band split the pay? Where do you go to find band members? How do you figure where the best place to play publicly is? How do you cope with the weather? And what do you do once you have your pay, what does a musician spend it all on?

Collette hadn't thought about this. "I suppose it's similar to your community..." He really had to think. "I never really acquainted with any other musicians. I grew up in a fishing town, and moved to a farming town. I seemed to be the only musician. As for the ball I would play at back there, well, they provide you the music, you practice a day and arrive the next to play together. I just don't talk to others I guess."

Collette shrugged as they exited, pausing for a moment. "Some musicians are quiet, others are aggressive, that's just how it works. Once you get your pay, you don't question it. Mostly to avoid fights."

He looked at Kon. "Does that make sense?" He seemed unsure with himself as well.

"Avoid fights? That's not anything like our community" Adam said laughing. "You've yet to see how we spend our Sunday evenings. Drinks music and bare fist brawls. Good times, actually."

Kon chuckled. "With men, brawling is basically going out on the shops for men."

"Real men!" Adam added. "Show your strengths and earn some coin through bets"

"You should play down at the pits, you'll get pretty good pay. Granted, it's somewhat dangerous, you may have to dodge a flying chair at one point but our men like their music. Good jolly drinking tunes, mind. Some of them might even flirt with you." Kon winked and glanced sidelong at Adam.

Collette chuckled. "Guess I'm not built for that sort of thing." Fighting sounded frightening in Collette's eyes, even being attacked by wolves out there, he wondered if that was like nothing to Adam. It sure as hell got a start out of the musician.

Sliding the two packages into the looser part of his belt to keep track of them, Collette would only smile more, simply imagining playing for people who'd enjoy the music as much as he did. He seemed to disregard the "flirting" bit purposefully.

"Where to next?" There was enthusiasm in his voice, if anything it was remarkable how quickly he was able to recover from the odd events and conversations.

"Let's see if we can get you on that stage!" Adam grinned as they approached the stage in the middle of the cul-de-sac. The band that had been playing last was on a break and either sat with their instruments eating a lunch or tuned and adjusted their instruments for the next song. Adam wasn't about to take any no's for an answer from either Collette or the band. He climbed up onto the stage much to the band's surprise and the annoyance of the lead player.

"Listen I have a musician friend here who's absolutely fantastic. He's only here for a little while, could he perhaps play with you guys on a song or two? It'd give him some great memories to take home."

"Sorry, mate it's our time right now he can play once we're through. We have five more songs for the day." The lead player explained.

"Aaah let the lad play, Tom. What's the harm? We do this almost every day a change wouldn't be bad. And if he's good he'll bring on more coin." The bass player said. He was a tubby little old man with a silver goatee and curly hair.

The lead was unconvinced, it wasn't hard to guess that he was probably more concerned about if he was bad.

"Bring him on, I wouldn't mind seeing this cutie play." The woman, a lute player winked at Collette from the side.

Adam chuckled. "Come on, Collette, up you get!" He helped Collette up onto the stage and backed up to be at the front of the crowd. "Show the whole city what you've got!"

Collette protested as Adam wandered off to try and get him on stage. "Adam, wait!-" He blustered on after the thief. "I don't need t-" He continued on, frustrated. It was clear Adam would ignore him, but he was still not cooperative with the idea.

"See?" He added as the lead turned Adam's suggestion down, but then the other band members held opposing views which they just happened to share with Adam. He even blushed lightly when the women wanted him to play as well, his stubborn expression unchanged.

He sighed indignantly towards Adam, seeing as there was no way out of this. The band had little sheet music so it was apparent Collette had to improvise, which he wasn't totally comfortable with. The thief helped him up and he awkwardly clambered up the stage.

"Hello," Collette greeted the few other band members, removing his viola and bow. "What shall we be playing?" He asked quietly and nervously in an attempt to be casual, glancing at Adam who definitely seemed to be enjoying himself.

The rosy cheeked woman filled him in on everything, from the scales to the accidentals, and the song. They were playing a generally well known song known as "Emperor Frederick II." It hadn't called for any viols, so Collette would have to be creative.

It wasn't long until the tune began with lute playing fast and elegantly. The lady played effortlessly, it was like pure magic. Eventually the rest of the band joined in and Collette figured it'd be his cue. He played whole notes,, blending in with the song for a long time until he felt comfortable enough to add in his own ideas; partials, and trills. They brought the music into a new depth adding more drama and emotion to the more plain parts of the song.

At first the band played as per usual with their familiar energy filling the air but as Collette began to play a hush would gradually fall in the audience as people stopped to watch this new player play. The sound he made with his viol rich with his own emotion threaded through the familiar tune adding a whole new dimension, a new energy to it.

A group of children giggled and began to dance in a small clearing before them, looping arms and spinning and skipping to the tempo of the song.

Adam watched, a warmth spreading to his gaze as he watched Collette play. It was odd, it felt as if Collette where paving a musical pathway into his mind and Adam could almost see himself playing right next to him complimenting his notes with notes of his own. He smiled, his toe tapping on the cobblestone, pure awe and love in his expression.

Collette was consumed by the music so early on that he hardly had to look at the sheet anymore. He'd watch the other musicians play, all of which were fantastic. They were nothing like the band that played back at the ball. Next he scanned the crowd, Adam particularly catching his eye.

He stood tall above the other citizens, the scars that crossed his face were painted pink by the lighting, and even through the gathered sea of people, his eyes were sparkling. Despite his earlier frustration, Collette couldn't help but smile when he saw Adam. There were times when he really wanted to hit the scars right off the thief's face, but he discovered when Adam looked happy like this, it was really hard to be mad at him.

Collette hit a wrong note, startling himself greatly. He had been staring at Adam for at most a minute. The viola player went red, getting back on the track of the music as soon as possible. Several of the other musicians glanced towards him in confusion, but Collette refused to look back at them.
