And Here I Thought I Was Crazy

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Hilde on Wed Aug 29, 2007 1:54 pm

And here I thought I was imagining things being the only one out of the four of us in the house suffering from Vista Lag?! But I had no idea it was actually a problem within Microsoft! (Haha, yeah right.) It looks like Vista users have found a bug directly linked to listening to their tunes!

Check it out.

Vista is without doubt the most appallingly malfunctioning operating system it has been my profound misfortune to have tried to use. To be fair the OS itself is probably okay but with drivers being not or poorly available and those from companies like nVidia not working properly one is left to strip it out and reinstall XP. I will not even attempt to install it again until service pack 2 is out and drivers actually work.

All Vista-is-useless-and-XP-is-sufficient comments aside, SP1 is expected to be out Q1 2008, and will be a major overhaul of Vista's primary architecture, and will significantly improve performance.

(But you still need over a gig of RAM to open any more than two windows at once)

I was talking about how Vista had a malfunction so your comment on Vista sucking wasn't off topic at all. =)

Maybe I'm the only one on the Earth, but I haven't had a problem with Vista at all. O.o

I got my laptop back in March, and I heard many horror stories about iTunes and other programs not working on it, but I have way too many songs in my iTunes, and have my iPod and my boyfriends iPod connected to it all the time taking things off and putting things on, and I haven't had a single problem.

Maybe I just don't use all the high-tech programs that Vista is screwing up. I dunno. o.o;;

As long as SP1 at least gives the option to disable Vista's ridiculous security measures (like, say, trying to run WinPatch for an hour unsuccessfully without any sort of prompt or error from Vista, just to realize you have to run it as an Admin) I'll be peachy.

I have every function of Vista running, and my computer runs just fine (I'm guessing we're not talking about speed, which has been a problem in the past with XP installed on computers with lower processing power; I imagine Vista, with just as many bells and whistles, has the same issue). I haven't gotten iTunes, however, so I can't say one thing or another on that bug.

On a side note, Vista wasn't rushed out. In fact, it took longer than I, and others, had expected to get Vista out, and I was somewhat disappointed when I heard that the release date was going to be pushed back. It's just that every new product, regardless of industry or manufacturer, has bugs that simply aren't tested for in lab settings, because the specific set of variables has never occurred in those labs. When you release a new product, you are inviting the public to do further tests on your product that you might not have considered would happen or would be an issue, which is why it's always a good idea to wait until feedback has been gathered from the consumer base and their problems fixed before obtaining your own copy/issue/whatever of said product. That way, there's a FAQ section that you can start off with, at the least, and someone who has had exactly the same problem and knows just what to do at the other end of the spectrum.

I guess it depends on which one you pick up. I have heard a lot of things about Vista going wrong somewhere. I am going to wait a while before I get it. <<
