《Bestiary》 (WIP)
If you've read the section on aether beasts, and would like to suggest an aether beast to be added, please feel free to PM me.
  • Drakons
Large, sometimes winged reptilian aether beasts, the considered one of the most deadly aether beasts, these monstrosities are capable of emitting aether jets from their mouths. Their claws and teeth are hard enough to pierce the hard shells of airship balloons. At birth, they are the size of small dogs, no end to their growth, or lifespan, has been recorded.
  • Aether Lions
Lions that have evolved to thrive in the aether, their thick mane able to store large amounts of aether, and therefore it is recommended to keep a wide berth. Extremely fast, they are known to travel at speeds upwards of 45 miles an hour, with short bursts of speed that have been clocked in at 80 miles per hour. Aether Lions often travel in prides.
  • Aether Horse
Aether Horses, six-legged horses, (the extra two are directly behind the front legs. That run at astounding speeds. Able to almost match the speed of a train, Aether horses are hard to rear, as their manes have the same toxic properties as an aether lions mane, however, when reared, the mane loses this property. Aether Horses are capable of carrying even Kraals.
  • Sand wyrm
A large tunneling beast indigenous to deserts, about 8 meters long, and a radius of about a meter, the sand worm as a 4 part segmented mouth covered in rows of serrated teeth, and is known for swallowing it's pray whole. The sandwyrm can cause minor earth quakes as it approaches. Sandwyrms are blind, but their sensitive skin can feel movement in the surrounding sands. They are so sensitive they are able to discern their own movement from the movemtn of other creatures 50 meters away.
  • Sylpheed
Sylpheeds are similar to their cousins the drakons in many ways, but are much more docile. Sylpheeds are often called the "dolphins of the skies" and are known for helping lost ships reach land. They have excellent sight, and are extremely fast, they are speculated to be the fasted creatures of the sky. Unlike their drakon counterparts, they cannot breath aether flames, or any other kind of flame, but are capable of firing a concussive blast of sound that at close range can cause loss of consciousness, and at medium range can cause severe pain and disorientation.
While Sylpheeds are peaceful, they will attacked if provoked. They are known for landing on ships and playfully nudging crew, however they can cause unintentional damage as they are a bit clumsy in the crowded space of a ship. If attacked when landing on a ship they will simply up and leave, however if pursued they will turn and attack, and are known for causing severe damage. if seriously hurt they will call for help, which usually spells disaster for the offending crew.

  • Ursus
Large bears that have adapted to the aether vents in forest areas. Extremely territorial, and much fiercer than normal bears, Ursi are larger, stronger and faster than bears, capable of felling a small tree with one fell swoop. That being said, they have a slow reproduction rate and short life span, and therefore arent very populous in the forests in which they reside.
  • Mandrake
Small plant beings that reside in bushes, trees, and underground. They are roots that have taken life and are known to attack unsuspecting humans. Their thorns can cause injury, rash, and the older , andrakes can cause poisoning.
  • Basilisk
A large serpentine aether beast, quick and agile, these monstrosities have no growth limit, and are already 3 meters long at birth. Basilisks are capable of spewing a noxious gas whig they use to incapacitate their prey before constricting and killing it.
  • Aether Spider
Large arachnids approximately the size of a pig. Aether spiders are known for setting traps in forests and caves and can easily drain a full grown man or two of their fluids. Aether spiders are capable of producing aether silk, which is proportionally stronger than normal spider silk, and is used to make envelopes for airships. When fresh they are sticky and too much time stuck to one can cause aether poisoning, and when dried they lose their stickiness and toxicity but retain their flexibility and strength. The best ropes are made of woven aether spider silk, but are extremely expensive.
  • Goliath
An aether convert, a human who has survived deadly effects of Aether poisoning, but were still transformed and driven mad by its effects, much larger than a normal human, Goliaths are incapable of reproduction, however the aether has reactivated their growth hormones and made them stronger faster and larger than the average human. Goliaths are unpredictable and extremely deadly.
  • Scorpid
A large scorpion aether beast. About the size of a large dog, they are capable of digging pits in the sand, but not capable of tunneling like a sandwyrm.
Their sting has a large hooked point that is often used to impale and tear through prey, and even if the prey is not impaled, they can end up poisoned by the toxins contained with the bulb of the tail. The poison is imbued with aether and can cause severe pains, necrosis, and acid like burns. Death usually follows within 2 hours, if they arent eaten first.

  • Pteroptryx
A large bird aether beast that terrorizes the skies. They have large claws and serrated beaks thats can cause damage to the envelopes of airships. However they are weak to loud noises, and so the blast of a dirigible's horn can scare them away. Their main predator is the Sylpheed.
Pteroptryx feathers are prized for their vibrant colors, unmatched by any other avian species.

  • Aether Goats
Territorial mountain aether beasts. About as large as a small cow, these goats are capable of breakig through a caravan with their extremely hard horns. Aether goats look identical to normal goats save for their size and the face they have two extra horns jutting sideways under their main curled horns.
  • Aether Cows
Aether Cows are docile migratory creatures that live in plains and grassland areas. Theyre milk is not drinkable. The danger with aether cows are aether bulls, which are territorial, and attack on sight.
  • Sky rays
Sky rays are flying rays that contain a hydrium sac which they fill with regular trips to the upper atmosphere. They are docile yet slightly territorial. caution is advised when approaching sky ray families as they are likely to attack thpse who approach. no one knows where sky rays nest.
  • Aether Boars
Aether Boars are large boars that have adapted to aether. They are not territorial, they are just plain aggressive. They attack with no warning and for no reason, as they are herbivorous. They never stop chasing their prey, until they completely lose them or kill them.

  • Roc
A cave dwelling carnivourous bird capable of short distance flight and running at high speeds. They are known for their hair raising screech that can cause disorientation and if too close, bleeding from the ears.
  • Kraken
One of the nautical terrors. While Kraken attacks are rare, as they are deep sea creatures, they are not unheard of. The Kraken is a large squid, the size of a humpback whale, whose strong tentacles are capable of tearing chunks off passing ships. Low flying air ships are also at risk as Kraken are able to leap hundreds of meters into the air, propelling themselves with jets of water.
  • Leviathan
It's existence is unconfirmed, a leviathan attack has never been officially recorded. According to legend, the Leviathan is a massive sea dwelling creature, larger than an island. Its appearance differs depending on the story, some say it has three heads, others say it is a giant kraken, some say it is a sea dragon. However with no proof of existance it is hard to say.
Once an enormous violet scale the size of a ship was found on the coast of Damaris, but its origins are unknown, many believers claim it to be the scakd of the leviathan. It is on display at the Gimli museum at the Capital city of Gimli

  • Aether vines
Aether vines are vines that have taken life and hassle bypassers. They are not deadly, but are known for stringing them up and making life generally difficult. There have been cases where a vine has gotten caught around an unfortunate travelers neck and strangled him, however it is unlikely the aether vines do thos on purpose. Aether vines release their catch after a about a minute, as long as the catch doesnt fight. Relaxation will release it, or fire. The latter being extremely dangerous as they are very flammable and hard to put out.
  • Venus Man-trap
Venus man-trap. The name was supposed to be a sick joke, but it stuck. It is just as it sounds, a large venus fly trap that will reach out and snag a large creature, even a human. If the human does not find a way to escape, they will be digested alive.
  • Ent
A large tree that has taken life. Ents can walk, albeit slowly, and are known for guiding lost travelers out of forests. To invoke the wrath of an ent by destroying its forest is very unwise, they are capable of manipulating their roots and branches to attack, as well as the vines that hang from them. Despite being an aether beast the fruit of an ent is safe to eat, and contains curative properties, it can cure all poisonings and even immediately cure aether poisoning. However, the ent must willingly give it to you. If someone tries to pull off a ent fruit, it will retain its toxic properties and one bite spells certain death.
