Chaotic Marin's Portfolio

Tips: 2.75 INK Postby ChaoticMarin on Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:03 am

Soooo, I couldn't help but notice that there's a place for me to showcase my creations. How neat~ I like to take music and remix it to sound as if were from various games/systems. For instance, I can take music and make it sound 8 bit, or 16 bit, or like any of the latest Pokemon games, or Tohou, or various others!

Currently, I can do the following (Including hybrids):
------8-bit instruments------
NES
Gameboy (Pre-Advance)

------16-bit instruments------
Megaman X1
Megaman X2/3 (Different from X1)
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 5
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Secret of Mana
Super Bomberman
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario World
Zelda 3 (Link to the Past)
OPL 3 FM
FM Regression

------Modern-bit instruments------
Tohou 6, 7, and 8
Pokemon Fire Red / Leaf Green / Sapphire / Emerald / Ruby
Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum
Pokemon Black / White
Pokemon Stadium 1/2
Final Fantasy 8 demo
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Full Modern (See: Real instruments)

------Other (Or I don't know where it would fit)------
F-Zero (Don't know where it would fit)
GXSCC (And I don't mean the program, thank you very much.)
Nokia 30 (Don't know where it would fit)
Doom (Don't know where it would fit)

Everything I make is free to download, free to use, just as long as nobody claims they made it instead of me. That'd just be cruel. I also take requests! Though I can't do everything and I generally only release something if it sounds very good to me. anyway. I'm going to list all my creations below, along with three links to various different places you can listen to the same thing at. I don't know why. Why not? Maybe someone has trouble viewing them at one place. They're in order from oldest to newest. I've made a lot more than these, but never released them.

LeviathanYellow!

Well, speaking strictly as an outsider who's not familiar with the Megaman soundtrack, I liked the songs -- particularly how dark and twisty that last one sounded. Hey, maybe I'm just a sucker for the 8-bit feel.

What program do you use to mix and edit? I've dabbled in some work, in the past but nothing too serious. I'm always fascinated and highly jealous of the people who can create and produce musical content. It's something that's just past my ability, from one person to another.

Heh. Would love to hear more! And if I knew more about video game music (the Tetris theme song is the only one I can think of that'd be relevant to what I play) , I'd totally make some sort of request!

Well, I use FL Studio to make my music. It's a really nice program, but has that tendency to make my laptop burn my lap. Needless to say, I simply ignore it or use my desktop. I've put up two more submissions, one in 8 bit style and another one using "Tohou" instruments, which are what I call modern bit, because they're not old enough to have any sort of definite bit value. The latter is something I'm proud of, because I've never really tried (and succeeded) at something like that before. It got a very good reception when I put it up. I hope you'll enjoy it~

I really prefer Grunty's Lair over the two. I do like the sharp, staccato feel to Supreme Ruler, not gonna lie, but the second one feels more smooth and sick. :D

Love eeet!

I'd originally tried to remix the Spyro the Dragon title theme into 8 bit, but that... honestly didn't work. Trying a different song, Dark Hollow, proved a lot more succesful.

Nice. I really like the LoZ and FF remixes, and all of the MegaMan remixes. They take me back to the good ol' days of SNES. :D
So, as I asked in your intro thread, would you want to do a collab MegaMarin?

Hi! Hope you're having fun with that Pokemon Gen 4 soundfont I showed you!

Ever since I first heard the ZX final boss theme during my brother's struggles with it on Easy (he did eventually beat it using only the one full heal and Fx's Buster Edit to stay out of the danger zones because we didn't know where all the other sub-tanks were), I've always thought it's one of the most dramatic battle themes of that decade, and somehow the transition to 8-bit made it even MORE badass.

X vs. Zero is, of course, a landmark event in the Mega Man franchise, and this rendition, while not packing as much punch as the OST, certainly tries mightily to do so. (While there is a little trick one can use to easily beat Zero without a scratch by causing the AI to spam the ground pound, playing as Zero vs. X is a little bit harder: I've only seen one instance of someone getting a no damage clear for that battle when playing as Zero.)

Usually I prefer to listen to music from games I've watched or played myself, so I haven't heard the others yet. However, I can't wait to hear what you come up with using that new sound font; maybe even a couple of original compositions!

Thank ye'. 16 bit remixs are probably my favorite to make. I'd love to try to do a collab. I've never tried that before, but I'd love to make it a first!~

I'm glad to hear you liked them. =3 I have been playing with those soundfonts you sent me! Ironically, I found myself enjoying the HGSS soundfont a lot more, which is ironic because it would seem as if most people like the DPP one. I haven't made anything that I felt was worth releasing quite yet, but hey! It's bound to happen sooner or later. I can't thank you enough for showing me those. I can't find them (or others) on my own for the life of me!

As for the 8 bit remixs. I've been trying to play around with ways to incorperate drums in 8 bit style. It's /hard/. Kind of like bass. Some songs, nay, a lot of songs handle it very poorly. Dark Hollow is currently the only one that I think went well.

P.S. Added a new song!~
Re-P.S. Added multiple new songs~

I love you both. <3 It totally makes my day complete when I hear that someone likes what I make.

Anyway. I've added a new track, which is a new style I'm trying using FM Synth sound samples. I've been experimenting with it for weeks but have only just released something made with it now. The new track is a remix of Quint's Theme, which I've done before, just not in this style.

I've also added a link to a Newgrounds version of each and every song. I recommend using Newgrounds from now on because it both has the highest quality of any link but is very easy to download from. Sheezy is probably the second best, with Youtube following, mainly due to the fact that you have to manually change to 480p to get good youtube audio quality. So yeah. Newgrounds is my recommendation if you want quick and high quality. (Took me forever to get approved and get my music uploaded. |3)

A lot of this stuff is really neat :3
Takes me back to playing these old games hehe.
Have you considered submitting any of these to OCRemix? I think the community would do you a lot of good, if you're interested.

Posted two new tracks. One of Equated Captives, which is N's Theme from Pokemon Black and White, in 8 bit. One of N's Final Battle music from Pokemon Black and White.

I've been looking at OCRemix for years!
But... I hear they're so /prestigious/.
I don't feel like I'd be well accepted there, and so I've avoided it. >.<

Updated the list with two new things. The Title Theme from Spyro the Dragon in 8 bit and a V2 of X vs Zero in 16 bit. I've been making more, I just haven't released any until now.

Posted a new arrangement, Final of Puyo Puyo in 8 bit!
I feel I've made a lot of progress since Pallida Mors. Speaking of Pallida Mors, I've been working on a V2 of that with all my new skills. It'll be fun to compare the two. There'll be a much bigger difference than say, X vs Zero (16 bit) V1 vs V2. I've got to learn how to master my SNES samples which may call for me learning to use an entirely different and even more painful program. *Facedesk* Which can wait, frankly. That program makes my eyes hurt and trying to use it is like pulling teeth.

But yeah. c:
