Character Bio And Profile: Orias Selgarde

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Orias Selgarde on Wed Dec 13, 2006 6:23 am

[align=center]Name: Orias Selgarde
Alias: "Reaver", "Sanguine Malice"
Age: 19
Height: 5'11 ( 182 cm.)
Weight: 197 lbs. (86 kg. )
Eye Color: ~Hazel (Rim of the eyeballs),
~Dark Brown (Around Pupils)
Hair Color: Jet Black
Skin Tone: Dark Brown

Race: Kith-Dragon Hybrid
Nationality: African American
Blood Type: O

Background:
The very embodiment of enigmatic proportion, a dark-skinned child was birthed under a crimson eclipse. The walls of Sehrithei, the foundation to his genesis, provided a solitude from the wiles that any opposition could present. From the moment he emerged from a scarlet womb, the babe's future lay consumed by flames of a distant horror. A pair of obsidian wings lay stretched slightly, though summoned to his shoulders for an unknown purpose. "Superstition." was the only answer he would receive when inquiring about his most prized possessions.

Orias would only grow to know the "sheltered" existence that his mother (Quinn Selgarde), a mere tradeswoman, could offer. So had it been; Orias's childhood became bathed in affection, his father (Simeon Selgarde) long-since retired from the kingdom's infantry. He was no cannon fodder..his name travelled across the various establishments as wildfire would a fuel ridden forest, inevitably pushing Orias to writhe in anticipation of what he could absorb from the influential figure. He would spend many a day in the streets, raising an elongated stick against commoners and strangers alike. Seeking power, the boy would come to prove that his abilities surpassed every child but one. And to his surprise, this singular figure would save him from exile..

Jasin Natael. Orias's first encounter with the figure, much older than he, presented itself on a scheduled visit to venture forth from the safe walls of his abode. Eleven years old..at such an age, one would have expected no less than irrelevent rancor. But Selgarde's skill in hand to hand combat, and more importantly, swordsmanship, came to catch every eye as he ambled the streets. And upon a fateful day, he happened to catch sight of another prodigy like himself. "Sir!" he exclaimed. His ears had been tainted with multiple tales of the man's doings, knowing all too well that Jasin's accomplishments could throw him into the shadows with no more than a scoff. Albeit that he was interested, his inquiry was not heard. Lost in the sea of flesh, Jasin disappeared from view..and he would be nothing more but a whisper upon lips for the next two years. He continued his journey to find the man...but he could not do so for long. Orias found himself tossed to and fro by the hand of a guard ordered to do away with him, only Jasin's hand keeping him balanced upon the ground..and able to stand within his own home. The black wings..with time, Orias would come to understand that he had been shunned, and not praised. Lies..deceit..social life had dropped into a nothingness, though the growing Orias would try his hand at "turning the other cheek"...not often did it work.

Driven by a positive thirst, Orias quickly mastered any weaponry that would be placed in front of him. His teenage years were filled with demolishing his enemies, whether they be domestic or from a distant land. Ranked in the kingdom as the second strongest of the Kith, his efforts to overshadow Jasin were only a finger's length away. Never forgetting how meager he stood in comparison to him, the young man's feet lead him to the very castle which Jasin called "home" time and again. To his surprise, the young man found favor in Natael's eyes. He would come to train under him, absorbing knowledge at an exponential rate. Orias was given a sense of trust, and in return, he provided a sense of humility. A quip here and there would get him battered by fists, though the fire in his eyes never withered. All seemed well with this exceptional fighter. The only thing that bothered Orias was the constant gaze of Jasin toward his back. It was rare that the Kith would be born with obsidian wings, though Jasin had saved the boy from exile in the beginning

Despite his parents' loving mannerisms, respite disappeared when he fell into a slumber. On the darkest hours of the night, one could faintly hear the slow breathing of the young warrior. A cadence of growls slipped through the throat, sweat threatening to pour down each side of his features. Flames..immense waves of gale..Selgarde lay contorted and weary within the eye of the storm, haunted by the cries of his people. Almost instantaneously, he could extend a hand..and birth a pair of obsidian wings, stretching to immense lengths to wrench him away from his cage. But to his dismay, the meaning of his visions would not come to him.

The legends of Sehrithei, physically acted upon by the king and his subjects, soon caught up to him. News of the boy's irregularity in comparison to the rest of his people brought attention to him, and in this regard he was summoned to Sehrithei Castle. Orias bid his parents farewell, his footfall leading him to the kingdom where he would reside for the next four years. "Always a step behind Jasin.." Selgarde would mutter. His thoughts coalesced into what seemed to be an obsession with becoming better than Jasin, but with time came understanding. The two were somewhat inseperable, and it was safe to assume that they had formed a brotherly relationship. Upon Jasin's return from his duties, the two would fight with phenomenal skill upon the outskirts of the kingdom's walls, or within the very confines of the stone structure. Jasin was victorious every time. With every loss, however, Orias would only find more strength..more reason to develop his powers.

The day would come where King Axis would present him with his own instrument, an odachi of sacred power which commanded the utmost strength to wield. Orias grasped the weapon in his right hand, though the true extent of such an instrument would not be revealed to him so easily. Jasin's own weapon, another type of blade, seemed to have the same circumstances; yet another similarity between the two. Orias knew very well that his "brother" possessed far greater potential than he, but the humility that had become a part of him deprived him of malicious intent toward his comrade. For his cooperation, Orias came to join the ranks of the army, Lieutenant and commanded only by Jasin. The two fought valiantly, emerging from battlefields in vibrant aura.

Orias continued to battle in the name of Sehrithei. Just as the climax of his accomplishments came to be revealed, Jasin forced him away to a distant land. Without question, Orias could only nod, turn his back upon all that he knew..and venture out in faith..

Character Profile

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Orias Selgarde on Wed Dec 13, 2006 7:28 am

[align=center]Primary Weapon: Daystar Clarion (Katana)
- Element of Ether ("Fire From The Heavens". Basically, fire in it's most potent form. Even hotter than a flame that has not been mixed with oxygen yet. This element is said to have relation to the stars, but that is a mystery that not even Orias has discovered yet. Coming into contact with flesh in this form will create burning sensations, also using the friction to make dismembering or critical damage somewhat easier.)

Alternate Weapon: Daystar Clarion (Broadsword)
- The weapon in it's true form. The blade is composed of it's very element, though it takes a physical form. If cracked or broken, counter-maneuvers are triggered from the sword such as a projectile or explosion. They vary depending on damage, and cover varying radius. In this form, the blade may serve as the core for his abilities. Orias is not required to use his body for every elemental attack (But they are at only half potential when used through the weapon). The blade may generate these, providing a safeguard against early consumption of his abilities.

The broadsword also serves as an extension of Orias. If knocked away or in the hands of an opponent, the blade becomes nothing more than a simple sword. Constant use of the blade to serve his ability's purposes will eventually wear the blade's edge down. It will become more fragile, until given time to recover in magical prowess. This prevents abuse of his talents.)

Elements Of Use:
- Wind (Naturally, since the Kith are an elemental race of the element wind. This serves many purposes, such as increasing his own abilities in terms of movement, and decreasing an opponent's. He is also able to use it to surround himself, making the opponent apply increased pressure when attempting to stab or cut him.)

- Fire. (Instantaneous use, his blade and body the catalyst for fire-type offense and defense. He is able to manipulate air currents and ambient energy, giving him advanced circumstance in the heat of his attacks. The life of his fire is able to be sustained as long as he is constantly creating the friction and combustion needed to power the element.)

- Lightning. (The double-edged sword. Orias is able to use this element, but will take damage depending on the situation. He is able to push the negative ions at a faster rate, though the radius in which he can spread it is to a miniscule degree. )

- Water. (Somewhat naturally since he is able to manipulate fire and wind. Under water, he is very agile. The resistance is also lessened because of his training for aquatic combat, using the elements he knows and the manipulation of the environment around him to alter his level of mobility.)

Equipment:

- The Hand Of Eden: The lightweight gauntlets upon either of Orias's arms. These are part of his illusory combat skills. Though not necessary for such an ability, Orias uses these to give off the illusion that his arms and hands are on fire. Astral projections are cast off in every direction, confusing the opponent's ability to predict what direction his attacks are coming from. The gauntlets are laced with small amounts of rubber on the inside, able to absorb lightning into them when he uses the element. This, in turn, will allow him to strike the opponent, and discharge the remnants into the body, hitting the nerves for varying levels of damage or immobilization.

- The Eye Of Eden: The necklace about Orias's neck. This serves as a magic "barrier", if you will. With this equipped, Orias is able to perceive the Overworld (The realm of spirits), and have an enhanced vision that gives him nearly 360 degrees of sight. He is only able to use this under complete focus. The downside is that once disengaged, Orias's mind takes a recovery. This may take seconds to minutes, depending on how long he is in this realm.

- The Greaves Of Eden: The metallic boots that Orias wears upon his feet. These serve as the entrance to the Overworld. Simply put, Orias is able to enter the spirit realm for seconds or minutes, depending on the situation. The drawback is that once in the Overworld, he is unable to be touched, or touch anyone. And in the Spirit World, the souls of the dead constantly try to devour his own. If left there too long, he will become insane, a wraith to serve the purpose of those in Hell. Also laced with bits of rubber, he uses these to nullify the paralysis (Though it rarely works for him).

Abilities:
- The ability to manipulate ambient energy.
- The ability to manipulate air currents.
- Illusory combat.
- Able to strike an opponent's internal organs using a mixture of ambient energy, physical action, and wind manipulation.

- Transformation to "Bahamut Orias"
~ He gains somewhat of a transformation. The clothing upon his form hides the scales which present themselves, the gauntlets falling from his body. Orias's physical frame doubles in stamina and endurance, muscles hardening to increase defense against physical strikes. Not much is known about this transformation, but these have been confirmed: Instantaneous use of elements, The ability to absorb energies to a minute degree and concentrate them into a projectile at the casting party.

~A hidden gate opening. This is the Scion's Gate, giving Orias an increased level of reaction time in exchange for half of his mind's control. This gets rid of his ability to use the Overworld, as well as a significant decrease in his perception of the enemy's movements. It becomes normal, just as any other patron would perceive. Orias's attacks become more swift, the pain of one attack doubled almost instantaneously if he connects moments later. Also, Orias is unable to perceive friend from foe. With time, he gains more control, but is interrupted from full focus by the voices of the Overworld begging him to return his bond with them. They perish as he focuses more, but it requires time.

Weaknesses:
- Unable to use most of his techniques instantaneously. They may take time to charge up, giving his opponent somewhat of an advantage if it distracts Orias for too long. Coupled with the fact that he will be using the Overworld, his ability to use elements may, in fact, become null and void because of his mind's inability to concentrate and give commands to his form.

- His stamina decreases with the constant use of his abilities. Orias has gates upon his body, each opening up one after the other to obtain more power and control over a period of time. However, if they are kept open for long periods, his physical body will eventually lose strength. This, in turn, will cause his internal organs to wither, obviously killing him. In total, there are 8 gates. Each gate represents a different area of increased ability, though they vary in time it takes to initiate them.

- With the element of lightning, Orias sustains paralysis for moments. Such a maneuver is used sparingly. Depending on whether is on the ground or in the air, Orias's recovery time lessens or increases.

- Unable to use the Overworld more than four times per day. An attempt at using it will open every gate upon his body instantaneously, causing him to explode..quite literally.

- Orias takes considerably more damage from ice-based attacks. The use of fire allows him to use the drain of cool air from the heat to wrap it around himself. This, in turn, will allow him to take less damage from ice attacks, depending on how much he has used his fire element. This is used because the same defensive ability is used to shield himself from the immense blaze of fire that he uses when using fire.

- When using the elements, if he misses his target, Orias is unable to conjure a second attempt only seconds later unless his adrenaline levels have been increased. Naturally, this will inspire constant momentum in battle. Otherwise, Orias is required to let his body calm from the stress of the attempt until eligible for attack.

~ Eyes Of The Dissonance:
Upon completion of the Temple of Stars' final test, Daystar Clarion resonates with a powerful flame which is able to blind those who come into close proximity. Orias was to witness this phenomena, thus rendering his eyes completely dissuaded from normal perception from that moment forward. If he were to wield such a colossall force, he would irrevocably come to require some unique alteration to the environment that he were able to absorb. The inferno's light would be rendered an aid for him, if he could accomplish such a feat.

Hence, the "Eyes Of The Dissonance". Orias's eyes are permanently cast into a dual realm, his vision symmetric between the human plain, and that of the souls in which he and the Kith are connected. A pool of onyx lay surrounding white pupil, a pale blue iris present within the center of the eyeball.Orias may see into the real world, though he may decide to alter his absorption of light and render himself prone to seeing that which is in the soul's realm, as well. In unison, he is able to detect what is tangible in reality. The light from his blade, luminescent to a dangerous degree until he manipulates the radiant glow, enhances the speed at which he is able to perform this ability, pushing back certain lights if he wishes so that he is able to focus more instantly on the target.

The "Overworld", as it was named, provides Orias the capablity to dissipate astral projections and the like just by eyesight, whilst maintaining a steady stream of focused vision upon his opponent. The "Eyes" may either focus on one realm or the other, doubling his vision to an extent that is much more potent than one's ability to see the mundane. His foe's tangible frame is monitored thoroughly, the speed of movement decreased exponentially as Orias continues combat.

Additionally, Orias may "zoom in", the absorption of his opponent's frame becoming more in-depth, if one would. His gaze is so close to the opponent that he is able to see epidermis stretch at even miniscule amounts, predicting which limb or muscle they will be using for the next attack. He does not have to keep this gaze for long, his unique mental capacity preventing complications of extended focus or concentration. The reliance of this vision is almost never used; though it seems to be a great advantage, sporatic movement will throw this into complete uselessness. This will distract Orias, leaving him open for fatal or near-fatal assault.

This ability should be used with caution. The constance of irregular patterns could diminish the eyes' trained focus, requiring more focus than normal if Orias were to engage in such a technique. Inevitably, it will blind him. This will last three month's time, only the flame of Daystar lighting his path. As such, the spirits from the overworld will feed him memories, tormenting his mind and tearing him away from his sanity.

~ Gaze of Requiem
To disengage the "Eye Of The Dissonance", Orias narrows his eyes slightly and projects an illusory image directly to the front of him in the form of Daystar's light. As the blade moves to and fro, hypnotic "barriers" are projected through the outlines of the flames, settling into the atmosphere after moments. In turn, this creates a "mirror" that the opponent could possibly set eyesight upon, the light bouncing so frantically repeatedly into their line of vision that they see every move that they, themselves, are performing. The environment around them is also altered, the opponent's mind delivering the conclusion that they have been facing the same direction the entire time, though in reality they are turning.

One could call it a "constant singular image", Orias' own pupils and iris rid of the additional lights that are absorbed through the eyes. Depending upon the swiftness of his foe, the image will either be locked in place, or constantly played with every movement that the victim performs. Orias may only make use of the "Dissonance" technique if the opponent manages to exert a mental strength which allows them to dispel the image. Perhaps a rare occurence, Orias seldomly needs to initiate the technique a second time, the first attempt "paralyzing" his foe before facing a gruesome demise by his blade's edge.

The downside to this is that it does not work on those with mental barriers of increased focus. High adrenaline levels will usually dispel the barrier within seconds. More fatally to Orias, a mind of focus will completely nullify this ability.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Vffekt on Wed Dec 13, 2006 10:09 am

If ever there has been a more perfect profile, I have not yet seen it. An interesting character to say the very least, if a little dramatic, if you know what I mean. I rather like your use of words in this, it's a story written out. The extra effort is a little more than I felt necessary for mine, as Vffekt's history is irrelivant for those that haven't even seen the second challenge. As for your character, it's something I'd want to encounter, challenge or not. He's very powerful, as I can well see. More powerful even, than the non-Seraphic Vega, whom was very formidable. I'll have to pit you against more bolstered versions of what he encountered.

I truly appreciate the level of effort you put in for your character, and I look forward to testing him and gauging him more deeply in combat itself. As for the goal, I'd like to hear his purpose in this. The Overworld is something like a limbo between this life and Heaven or Hell. Like a purgatory, I'd assume. That makes this all very interesting, especially for after the fight with Bel, as this middle-world will be of relevance. Great relevance.

To Live Amongst The Legends

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Orias Selgarde on Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:41 pm

[align=center]To have heard of a man who was rumored to possess this great power..Orias stood within the Valley Of The Decadent, the very home that he had once known as he left the walls of Sehrithei. It had been tainted by the darkness spread after the collapse of his kingdom, the stench of death wafting about the air. "The Overworld will consume me if this threat is not done away with." he muttered. It seemed as though eons would pass every time he would succumb to the Overworld's environment. The souls of the widowed, the tormented, the lonely..they would quickly rush to beg his help, but his compliance would mean their gradual descent into madness, jealousy causing them to eat away at his soul..

What better way than to calm these souls than to deliver Vffekt from his existence? The vanquishing of such an incredible entity would grant him a certain justification, perhaps satisfying the thirst for respite from the hollow beings which walked the spirit realm. Of course, Orias saw no personal reasoning; they had never met before, though the poison which Vffekt seemed to be capable of left him to wonder (quite periodically, at that) just what means he used to spread his perilous machinations.

As he ambled across the long-dead forest, the patron was interrupted by the footfall of boots other than his own. Hazel orbs would scan the distance, ignited to a minute degree; such was the initiation of the Eye Of Eden, his mind slipping into a chamber of isolation, just as the bear did when taking it's seasonal rest. Three hundred and sixty degrees of the environment alerted him of a humanoid approaching..though it was lifeless. Quickly did Orias spin, the balls of his feet pressed into the earth below to accentuate the balance of his movement. No sooner did he halt when his opponent lunged at him, the rust from a sword stained with blood gaining no favor in his nostrils.

Orias's right hand quickly took hold of Daystar, the odachi screaming from the sheathe in anticipation. "A corpse...but whose!?" he exclaimed. Stepping back upon his right foot, he would immediately shift the weight of his person onto the limb. His position allowed him to raise his blade against the rotting flesh, knocking his opponent's weapon from his hands with brutal force. Daystar's light broke forth for only moments, ascending into the heavens before perishing under his command.

His assailant, thrown back for a great distance from such a display of power, would collide harshly with the ground behind him. Strange, how it's body was still attached after that descent. Selgarde would thrust his right foot forward now, bursting into offensive maneuver; lunging forth with the same motion his opponent took, the kissaki of his elongated instrument would pierce the skull. No surprise struck him as the shell of a human fell back, lifeless..heh, how ironic. He buried only inches of his blade into the bone, twisting it for additional confirmation. As he stood, he placed a steel boot to the remnants of the rib cage, pushing it away to retrieve his sacred possession.

For what seemed to be hours afterward, Orias stood there and stared into the dark recesses of the figure's orifices; there had been eyes there once, most likely taken before the tragic end this entity would meet. The clothing upon it's body resembled that of Sehrithei...which made Orias grit his teeth. "One of Sehrithei's people had been reanimated, so it seems..but by whose command..and more importantly...by whose power?" he questioned. Finally satisfied with his analysis, Selgarde turned toward the distance.

" Vffekt...if this is a preview of how the world is to be if you prevail, then I will beg to differ until death. Besides.." he laughed, "I'm too handsome to be a corpse."

A low laughter escaped his lips, memories of he and Jasin rising in his mind. This would give him temporary solace, his footfall echoing throughout the valley as he left it...he would not be returning..perhaps when it was restored to it's former beauty (if ever)...but not now.

Pretty well done, and there's numerous reasons why Vffekt or one of his lessers would reanimate the dead. Though Vffekt was never evil, and never will be the type to revel in destruction, his means are questionable at least. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a Bio or a post in the roleplay. If you could somehow clarify, I'd be grateful.

It's more along the lines of letting you know how Orias came to try and hunt you down. It's pretty much the answer to people asking "Why is he after Vffekt?" ya know? I don't know how you want the roleplay to start, perhaps some sort of intro from you?

To be blunt, I'd rather not create a scenario your character is in, and then invade it. I need a time and place, any time or place. The midst of battle, a restless sleep, a conversation with another. Just something, anything, and I'll do my thing and so on. If you're comfortable with me placing your character in a specific scenario, I'll post first, but I recommend against that.
