I thought Eric wanted us to play out the characters instead of placing bios, was I wrong?

He didn't really say which he wanted. Though he did say that he preferred to play out the character and let them grow according to what happens to them. Personally, I've found this to be better as well, because if you commit your character to something, than you'll have to stick with that. So I think you can do whatever, but in general it's better to let it just play out.

Yes, but the thing is, if you tell people their height, and basic appearance which you might not have mentioned in a post yet, then a person could get a better mental picture of what you're writing, making it even more enjoyable to read. Just because you give a breif background history, doesn't mean your character won't/can't develope even more.

OOC: I don't like telling people how a character acts. They should RP with me if they want to know what my character is like. It adds to the use of character knowledge.

It really bugs me when a "mysterious" character in the action posts 10 pages of history about themselves - and then expects everyone to still consider them mysterious. In a real world, I do not see people putting up posters everywhere concerning who they are and where they came from. It just doesn't happen.

However, if you are totally missing the point of all of this, or you just REALLY want everyone to know exactly who you are, I'll make a couple topics for you. It will be more of a public record type of thing. Only give what your character would want a government agency to have.

I'm guessing that's directed at me. =| My character isn't 'Mysterious', he just has a secret identity for assassinating. O_o; Just explaining how and why he has this. -_-; I won't post anymore if it bothers you. The only reason I typed it was to develope my character more, and because I'm waiting for someone to post.

OOC: No, it wasn't directed at anyone. But, now that I think about it, you are a perfect example. Since you are an assassin, would you want information out about how you kill people? You're blood type? Anything? I personally don't even like people knowing my name if I am doing anything like that.

o_O; Yeah, but he lives two lives now. Nothing is known about Azure Shadow by anyone other than the other Shadow Landers. My post was mostly OOC, I mean so the reader can feel like he knows my character.

OOC: That's the thing. If the reader knows about the character, it becomes increasingly difficult for any character they play to play with character knowledge.

OOC: Say we had a character who was a murderer, but only kills people after he's talked to people for 5 minutes. He kills everyone he talks to after 5 minutes. If you read this in his profile, would it not affect your roleplay? You'd either avoid him completely or talk to him for less that 5 minutes, nearly every time. It's very hard once the player knows something about another player's character for them to play their character as if their character does not know this information. It's an integral part of roleplaying. It's called character knowledge. If your character doesn't experience it, he doesn't know it. It really comes into play when multiple characters are being used for only 1 player, as one character experiences something, the other character she plays doesn't know about it. Then the other character comes in, knowing everything about the situation automatically. It just doesn't work.

o_o; Well, one should know not to put OOC knowledge IC in a situation. Just because they kill people after talking to them for five minutes doesn't mean they'll do it all the time, or even with you. O_o; And it doesn't mean he can kill you. But like I said, if it bothers you that much, then I won't do it no more.

I mean, if you attack other people in your other posts, it's the same thing. Just because Azure's an assassin doesn't mean you should avoid Aarkon. I mean, I blew up a Restruant randomly in one of my posts. O_o; Does that mean people are gonna' avoid eating when I'm around?

OOC: I said it before, it isn't directed at you. It's directed at everyone. It's a very fine point of RP. It's hard for even me. If Arcus meets someone, and I meet them with Master, it's extremely hard to play as if I had never met them.

We aren't doing this to be mean to anyone, but the entire point of the Guild is to improve the skills of the writers in it. Therefore, if there is something you want us to know about your character, write about it don't just list it.

Not everyone here is all that great about keeping OOC knowledge OOC. While many of us are seasoned vets, some people are new to the game, or they just haven't gotten to the point where they know how to play properly.

Character history is completely unnecessary. You might want a "Profile" stating height, weight, hair, eyes, clothing, things like that, though. It's a hassle and a half to state that in every single post and it's a tedious process reading every single post in here. Granted, i SHOULD read every post in here, but I'm a very busy man and I don't always have the ambition after a tiring day to read things that usually don't affect me or my character.
