Sun Jul 01, 2018 4:07 pm twice Holy bajeezus this place is the bee's knees!

When I joined I was new, shy, and had no idea how much there was to learn in the art of storytelling. A few years later I feel comfortable DMing in all sorts of RPG scenarios, even at in-person tabletops; my aspirations of being a successful creative writer are much more fulfilled being a member of this site than they could possibly be without. Without this forum's awesome staff and sweet users, I don't know how I would have figured these things out- much less become a leader in RPG and writing settings. Valucre's membership is so cool though, they were able to show me how helpful strangers can be in an environment like this.

The people of Valucre are, first and foremost, trying to maximize their own and each others' artistic talent. There are a lot of other sites where competition overshadows peoples' ability to be friends and work under a set of reasonable rules. On Valucre, though, the overwhelming trend is working together and giving genuinely constructive criticism to make the lore continually better. This depth and quality shows in the landscape and playing field more and more as you research. The forum, its ruleset, and extensive but understandable lore create a beautiful and realistic writing world.

This world draws you in, makes you feel the joy or plight of its In-Character populace, blesses you with victory when you earn it and curses you proportionally when you fail, all while inspiring and enabling you to make the changes you want.

In a world wide web where sites that are hit-and-miss, this is a for sure hit. I would give this site a one-up any day, and I am super sayin' that it contains some plus ultra material and membership.

Sat Dec 02, 2017 2:05 pm ObsidianShimmer Valucre offers a lot, however I'm going to exclusively focus on the things that matter to me.

One of the biggest things that I value about Valucre is the community. While it isn't overwhelmingly massive or huge, it is extremely diverse. There are people that are new to role playing, and there are people that are aspiring authors. Valucre, and the community, caters to the writing experience and style of just about everyone. The community collectively realizes that role play for a variety of reasons and no one tries to push some pretentious notion of how to role play the 'correct' way. There is absolutely something for everyone, and all are welcome to partake.

While community might be one of the most important aspects of a role playing website, administration is what fosters the community and is either just as important or a close second. All levels of website staff are engaging and friendly. Their approach, as far as I can tell, has always been to help people have the best experience possible. They actively engage new members to help them get adjusted, regularly create content, are all active role players themselves, and have answered all of my questions within 3 business days, if not sooner. (Which all things considered, I find incredibly reasonable.)

The final point that I want to bring up is the lore. Valucre has both staff and user generated lore that is dynamic. Users are afforded the opportunity to shape and change the content and face of valucre with their role plays. They don't have to, mind you, but they have the very real opportunity to do so. There are static settings as well, but if someone wants to take over a city and rename is to Happyville, that is a very real possibility. That is something that seems very unique to me. Most places do not have a persistent setting that is dynamic and can evolve. Either it is static or there is no persistent setting. So the ability for members, base level users, to create, modify, and impact the sites lore is something that really makes Valucre standout above the rest.

As a side note, I'd like to mention that even though Valucre doesn't force people to write a certain way, a lot of users actively share tips and try to improve their writing. I've always found this astounding, that a large chunk of the community wants to learn to write better, for no reason other to improve the enjoyment that the reader gets from reading their posts. It really says a lot when people willing decide to improve to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Anyway, I highly recommend Valucre. It is a unique, wonderful, and absolutely beautiful little chunk of the internet that has so much to offer in terms of rich and fulfilling experiences. If you don't give it a try, you really are missing out.

Tue Sep 23, 2014 12:39 am carmen.sandiego Valucre has got to be one of the friendliest role-playing site that I have been on since I've started RPing. Everyone here is genuine in their hope to write with you as well as answer any and all questions you may have. The range of roleplays you can get into are so vast, and the amount of members so large that it's impossible to not find someone who will enjoy writing with you. I've been on the site now for two months and I can't think about leaving it. I'm having too much fun! 10
Fri Feb 28, 2014 7:21 am Jaden Overall I found my experience with this forum enjoyable. I didn't have much, if any, direct interaction with the staff, so I'm not completely sure what they were like. The quality of writing and the characterization were well thought out by the people I did RP with, though I can't verify if that was universal or if I got lucky with my partner. My reason for leaving/becoming inactive, was largely for personal things, but I have considered returning. The only complaint I really have was the fact that I recall a troll who kept harassing people all everyone did was feed it. 10
Sun Jul 03, 2011 4:54 pm UnderINK The administrator here is exceptionally involved with his message board. From message boards I've been involved in in the past, I've noticed a pattern of absent administrators leaving most tasks to lower staff. Supernal, or Carlos, is extremely elbow deep in dirty work on Valucre and logs into their chatting system, is openly available on messenger, sometimes by text, and always listens to complaints and suggestions without bias.

The staff is well-picked and well regulated. They do not have inhuman expectations of the staff, but still the members are extremely dedicated to not only doing their jobs but continuing with roleplay as they do so. The amount of help other members lend to new members is pretty extraordinary and it is a good place for high quality or intermediate writers looking to improve, build connections, and connect with others of similar interests.

Valucre itself as a realm is extremely well constructed. The administrator and staff has put a lot of hard work into making it very detailed, from currency and religion of every city and region inside the realm, to their own personal interconnected histories and customs. It provides the same sort of stability that playable console realms give you, with laws and rules that must be obeyed. It does not leave the imagination hanging in uncertainty, like other realms where the structure and rules are lax. But it still provides a lot of freedom to explore a multitude of plot possibilities. There are also specific threads in each city and region that are considered 'canon'. Players can request their characters become part of the canon plot of the realm, or roleplay freely out of canon if they choose.

The members here are very active and there is very little drama on the site compared to others I've been involved in. The chat system is active and the roleplay forums are as active as the general subject categories.

All in all I would absolutely recommend this website to anybody looking for a stable roleplay environment. Power characters are not permitted in Valucre, and all characters must meet the criteria of 'mild powered' or lower.

Fri Mar 11, 2011 1:40 am forgotten The staff is remarkably friendly and despite the busy nature of running the forum still rp on a regular basis as well as assist new members in their plots. They've put together a Storyteller unit to insure that anyone whose plot is founder and needs assistance can have it and everyone is just so damned helpful! The plots are engrossing, the writing is diverse and enjoyable. All in all one of the best! :] 10
Tue May 18, 2010 1:21 am Exodyus Excellent writers on a high-diversity site. Tons of various plots rolling, side and main for each continent, as well as other smaller areas, a fighters Arena, random tournaments (even a tournament system for all varieties of abilities/powers). It's just a great place to RP. 10
Tue Nov 01, 2016 4:05 pm Lord Satin Valucre is, undeniably, one of the top roleplaying sites on the web. Rarely do I find a forum that matches both its size and quality of content.

With its responsible, active and approachable staff, Valucre lacks nothing in terms of security and trustworthiness. Rarely are there disputes amongst community members, and even on those rare occasions are the conflicts resolved with relative ease.

Writing on Valucre is quite smooth. There are some member disappearances, but that is to be expected with such a large-scale site.

Overall, Valucre offers a vast selection of opportunities, and never fails to disappoint with its ever-growing community.

Tue Oct 13, 2015 2:53 pm WanderingWondering Like all communities Valucre has its ups and its downs, but is overall wonderful, offering itself as a platform through which one can express themselves as well as influence site canon, and with as little red tape as possible between you and your goals. The administration are quick, responsive and vocal to community concerns. You can do a lot worst than Valucre.
**Disclosure:

I am an active member of Valucre. It filled the void left when my previous writing and role-play forum died, so I can't recommend it enough.

Fri Apr 22, 2022 7:34 pm VanguardEX I really wanted to enjoy Valucre and it's successor, Pretty Good Roleplay.

I don't recommend this site one bit.

I've seen straight erotic roleplay on this site that I should of reported to the authorities. By the time I got to do that, it was gone. This is coming from a website where CHILDREN CAN JOIN. I don't recommend anybody to join the site.

I quit to join RPNation for a few years. I thought this was a great move.

I thought I'd give it another chance a few years after I was disgusted looking the content as I recently saw cool art with the name Valucre on it.

I don't know who the artist who commissioned this is: but they seem really cool anyways.

I had high hopes for this new site and thought everything would be forgotten about in the old website. Boy I was wrong. The second I joined their "Guilded" server, I talked about I joined RPNation and how I quit Discord because it's seriously horrible. I mentioned how I joined because of art I found online. I was willing to give this another shot.

Turns out they booted me from their "Guilded" chat. Not a good first experience. I think they banned me because I talked about how I found cool art online and how I joined from another RP Site. Disgusting.

DON'T JOIN HERE. DON'T GO TO THE SUCCESSOR. The site bans people for zero reason because somebody advertised for them! I'm starting to think it was all bait to begin with.

Tue Aug 22, 2017 2:22 pm Doubleshot From day 1 I had issues on Valucre and I should have left then. I wanted it to work and be the one place I could count on for Rp.

Instead, the site only has concerns about an ongoing popularity contest that should have ended in High School. The drama in Confessions, OOC and other places continue to make it a cesspool. They don't care about the actual betterment of their skills, but who likes who in the grander scheme of things. If you have complaints, you better pray and hope that the admin likes you. They will be biased based on your reputation on the site. Even if you have legit complaints, it may take months before they do something about it. I've experienced waiting up to 8 months, before they finally stepped in to take care of an issue that was ongoing.

As someone who has Rp'd for over 10 years, I was stupid to keep staying in Valucre. There was a time when I hoped it would get better, but it continued to get worse, especially when everyone shares such personal details of their life. All you have to do is search Confessions and other areas to find that proof.

Rp sites should only be about Rp and writing. Not about who is in what clique, or who knows who in order to write with someone.

I should have left the moment the abuse started, or the unfair treatment. Because of their biased point of view, a new person doesn't stand a chance.

Good luck getting into their other more involved Rp's, unless you appease the leaders there, you won't see any of it.

I've heard similar complaints from other members and they are so terrified of admin, that they aren't brave enough to speak out against the unfair treatment. Why do you want to create fear, separation and silence on an Rp board?

Why don't they want unity between members for the same cause?

The popularity contest is why.

I think they forgot it's just Rp, which is even more alarming and disheartening. Some get so immersed into their characters, that they have told me personally they believe they are their character's thoughts.

This is when I knew I had to leave and find a more sane board that promoted writing and not popularity contests.

I should have left years ago.

To those that remain. I wish you luck.

Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:58 pm Are You Serious Sorry but I contest this. The forum is nothing but a haven for goblins, trolls and people who just want to talk BS about other people, abuse them on forum while the staff idly turn a blind eye to it, and play favourites. The staff, are actually some of the rudest and two-faced people I have ever come across on forums, even placing ayenee.com to shame in its flaming days. I would not recommend any person to join this forum unless they want to be treated like a doormat. Lots of this forums members have walked out, new people do not post there or never return. Facts. 1
