Haha, just kidding. Sort of. Really though - I work in the industry as an SEO professional, as well as just being a web developer.

She should be aware that it can take up to four months for Google to update her PR (pagerank) - but I'd be glad to lend a hand!

Oh, she's aware of all this. Definately aware. I was letting her know of the exact information and she then advised me of all of it. 9_9

But if you do look up the word 'okanemac' on Google, you can see that other students are up and already ranked. The contest ends around their Christmas break and started in September.

The prize isn't enough for me to ask for a monetary compensation... lol. Maybe her presence would be enough?

She's signed up on here as Layne-Hizuke.. I'm sure you'll see her around.

I talked to her today and she said that her Web teacher let her know that she's #2 on Yahoo. She hasn't even been shooting for Yahoo, it's been "Google, Google, Google" with her. Yahoo and MSN are part of the contest too, though.

She needs more header level blocks with the keyword in them, and links to her own page with the keyword as well. List items might help.

Make sure her page validates W3C, too.

Well, she's doing pretty well without all that extra stuff. She told me last night, she's 3rd on Google, 2nd on Yahoo, and I think 6th MSN? I'm not sure, I'm just guessing off the top of my head.

The other day she had a crazy number of hits from the GoogleBot, I think Monday she had like 59 then the next day she checks her stats (since they only update once a day) and she had 708! It's crazy, I tell you. x_x!

Tell her to increase her indexing speed using Google Webmaster Tools, and to add those headers! ( H1, H2... etc. )

I'm really vying for this contest. I'll need some help on the Google tools, I've already proved it's my website, so what else do I need to do specifically?

You'll want a sitemap, next. It's a little XML file you put on the server and then show Google where it is. Yours probably will only have one entry. Here's the GWing Sitemap.

Once you're logged in to Webmaster Tools, click the domain, and it'll bring you to a summary screen. Left hand side, menu, down towards the bottom: Crawl rate.

It's up to you to choos a crawl rate and the speed at which your sitemap suggests Google visits. Faster is better, for us - we have a lot of new content and changes.

All sitemaps must start with the following:

This section defines that the file is an XML file, what version, and the encoding. A way of explaining to a viewer (the browser, or the search engine, in this case Google) what the file is and how to read it.

The next line declares what standard, or template, we are using.

Code: Select all: <urlset>

This, by all technical references, is called a schema. It will explain to the viewer how the document is organized.

Now, we add a section of the site.

XML, just like HTML and XHTML, is a markup language. Inside these tags must be certain things, and the schema dictates what these expected things are.

<loc> is the URL.
<lastmod> is the last time the document was modified, which can be in several formats, none of which I have a list.
<changefreq> is how often the page will change. I think the accepted values are daily, weekly, monthly...? I'm not sure though.
<priority> is the priority the page takes to google.... 0.9 being the highest, 0.1 being the lowest. Again, I'm not quite sure about this, it might go up to 1.0.

And then to end the document, we use the following:

The end. I suggest looking on Google for further info, this is the quick rundown from someone who hasn't updated his sitemap in a while.

Lol. Thanks anyways, but I figured it out on my own, what everything meant, since I thought you may not acutally be online at the time - That's why I deleted my post. :p
