Captain Mowne Howzer walked down a long coridor in the Eart Federal Forces headquarters, Jaburo. The tall, muscular man with thinning gray hair looked tired. It was expected, not many had fully recovered from the One Year War. The lives lost, the lives taken. It was a toll that seemed to never be fully paid. After a long leave of absence, here he was, called to duty once more.

The Federation had been primarly concerned with gaining advancements in technology, and perhaps principals, from the former Principality of Zeon. Several other units had been dispatched to capture what remained of Zeon facilities. It seemed to Captain Howzer, his time had come.

Turning the brass knob on the large wooden door, Mowzer stepped into an office where Admiral Grian Zor stood facing the window, with his back to him.

"I'm glad to see your vacation leave hasn't made you lose that warm glow of yours, Captain Mowzer,"
laughed the Admiral, turning his head only slightly to look at Mowzer.

The Admiral's sarcasm simply bounced off the veteran. "Fly fishing and drinking myself in a stupor is some vacation, sir." He said, not smiling. "My orders?"

Admiral Zor turned around smiling and dropped a file folder on his desk infront of Captain Mowzer. "Always work, work, work with you Mowzer." The two of them had gone through the acadamy at the same time. They had been friends for years, however, the One Year War had drawn them apart, and while Zor's command over a Salamis class vessel had brought him glory, Mowzer's efforts were typical stories not mentioned in the media.

"I think you just contradicted yourself, Admiral."
Finally, a small glimmer of a smile came across Mowzer's face as he picked up the folder and began to flip through it.

"Maybe so. Anyway, Fourteen hours ago we detected what appeared to be a small Asteroid drifting in Side 2. Upon further survelience and images captured by a recon team, we discovered what appears to be a small mobile suit factory on it's surface. We believe it goes further down into the actual asteroid itself, and that it's failure of its nuclear fusion engines caused it to fall out of standard orbit. We have no record of this facility..."

"And you want me to go in and find out what's inside, Admiral?"
Mowzer interrupted as he looked through the photographs showcasing a rocky surface with a tiny manmade structure sticking out.

"Correct. You will be leaving in three hours. We've assigned you the newly formed Orion Star Mobile Suit Team, along with a Salamis Kai. You should be pleased with both,"
said the Admiral as he took his seat. "Oh...and Mowen. You should know, there have been reports of Zeon Remnants in the area..." The Admiral's tone had gone from being joyful, to that of concern. "I picked you for this mission because I knew you could get the job done, and not make too much fuss for the press."

"Always need me to do the quiet jobs, eh Grian?"
Mowen placed the folder under his left arm and saluted with his right. "It shouldn't be a problem, these Zeek remnants won't have the supplies needed to wage any kind of heavy assault."

"That's what we believe, dismissed and good luck, Captain." Zor nodded as Mowen turned to leave the office.

The force from a sudden burst from the verniers of the RGM-79SP, pinned Ethan Tier to his pilot seat, as he increased his altitude of the south american jungles that surrounded the Federal Forces headquarters Jaburo. Nearing the mobile suits limit, the overheating warning began to sound inside the cockpit, and after pulling hard on the controls, the Leutenant, managed to make the mobile suit do a complete flip, dodging several paint ball rounds that flew past him.

Cutting the verniers, the mobile suit began to plumet to the ground at a high velocity. The visor on the head of the RGM-79SP slid down into place, and the view in the cockpit changed to fit the increased imagery range. Bringing his machine gun up, he fired a controlled burst of paint rounds down at two similar units on the ground.

The two of the rounds hit one of the GM Sniper II's, but the other jumped out of the way and fired back up at the attacker. Clenching his fists around the controls, and pressing hard on the foot pedals, Ethan ignited the vernier thrusters making it so the paintball rounds flew under him. With a loud thud, the mobile suit landed in the dense foilage.
"Well it looks like Mcallester is out! You're next Thompson!" he yelled over the communications link.

"I think not Teir!" roared the pilot in the remaining GM. His long blonde hair was in his eyes as he tried to find where Ethan was. Flipping his own visor down, he shifted the screen to an infared view, searching for the heat signature. "How the hell am I going to find anything in this god damn jungle!"

The heavy pounding sound could be heard in the distance, Thompson switched to a sonar view, but as he turned his mobile suit in the direction that it was coming from, he could already see Teir's GM Sniper II was too close. He opened fire, full automatic fire, but Teir simply brought up his shield, it's white surface quickly painted pink with large splatters of pain.

Teir shifted his mobile suit, brought up his machine gun and fired once into the head of Thompson's camera, filling it with the same pink splatter
. "You're dead, Thompson." With that, Ethan stood his GM Sniper II straight up.

"Damn, Ethan...you could have gone easy on us, just this once. We're your own unit for crying the fuck out loud," said Thompson as he appeared in a small window.

Ensign Wilson Mcallester, a young man with short black hair appeared in awindow next to Thompson's.
"Nice aerial stunt there, Leutenant. Could have fried your entire system doing something that stupid."

"I knew what I was doing, now let's return to..."
suddenly another window appeared on the screen interrupting Ethan.

"Leutenant Ethan Teir, return to base. You are being reassigned. Return at once for your orders," said a woman in a Federal Forces dress uniform.

Ethan narrowed his eyes. "Reassigned!? What do you mean!?"

"You will no longer be assigned to Jaburo Defence duty. You will be assigned as commander of the Orion Star Mobile Suit Team, please return at once," said the woman before disappearing.

Slamming his fist into the controls of his mobile suit, Ethan was not happy. He had fought with Mcallester and Thompson throughout the War, why the hell was he being reassigned.

"Well, guess we will be seeing you later, Ethan," said Thompson, who like Mcallester had a somewhat look of disappointment. The three of them had enjoyed their free time to train for the last year. It kept their skills up, along with keeping their ties.

Ethan gave a slight wave, before turning his GM Sniper II around and walking through the jungle back towards the base.

"Why is this taking so long?" Ensign Cody Morgan wondered aloud inside the cockpit of his Mass Production type Guncannon. Morgan had just received orders that he was being transferred to a new, space-borne unit, the Orion Star MS Corps. Morgan was currently staging a mock-ambush for the team leader, Ethan Teir.

Morgan glanced at his weapon ready light.

"I wish he'd hurry up." Morgan switched his sensors from visual to long-range thermal. "Ah, finally."

Morgan's patience finally paid off as he saw a GM Sniper type approaching. The MP Guncannon was hiding at the edge of a clearing about two hundred meters from the approaching GM.

Morgan switched back to visual and ligned his sights up on the GM.

"Gotcha."

Foomph. A pair of large paint grenades flew from the Guncannon's shoulder-mounted cannons...

An alarm in the cockpit broke Ethan's concentration on his new reassignment. His teeth clenched as he forced the mobile suit to slide across the jungle terrain using the verniers to boost him along. The ground below was torn by his feet as he took cover behind the large tree's just as the paint grenades landed, covering the landscape. "Not from my...former...unit. I don't know who the hell is this, but I'm not being taken down!"

Leveling his machine gun in the direction that the paint grenades had come from, he opened fire.

After pulling the trigger, Cody Morgan knew his cover was blown. He immediatly flipped the retractor switch for his shuolder-mounted cannons, and performed a jet-assisted jump with his Guncannon which sent him about a hundred meters forward. As he jumped into the clearing, Cody simultaneously pulled the trigger for his vulcan cannons and the 90mm paintball machine gun. Red paintballs rained down into the clearing. Cody's MS landed with a bone-jarring thud, but a second later, it was up and running in a zig-zag pattern and firing off rounds towards the GM Sniper...

Seeing the Guncannon begin it's manuevers, Ethan instantly brought up it's shield, the vulcan paintballs now covering the already existing pink with red. "RX-77D, huh? Well...I my training isn't complete for the day." He opened a communication link to the "enemy" mobile suit. "Thought the bastards in Jaburo wanted me to return to base at once, guess they sent you here to set me up for an ambush huh!?"

Ethan smirked to himself as he noticed the Guncannon pilot using classic straffing pattern after it had landed. Quickly, Ethan got his RGM-79SP moving again, moving in an opposite direction of the Guncannon, almost as if he was trying to keep his distance. "Put him in a false sense of security...the Guncannon is useless in close combat...", he thought to himself. After several steps, the vernier's ignited on the mobile suit, circling behind the Guncannon, and then making a straight line at full burn towards the back of the "enemy" mobile suit.

"Let's see how you like this," yelled Ethan, pulling the left arm of his mobile suit back, nearing closer and closer to the Guncannon, until thrusting the jagged prongs on the shield forward at the artillery delivery system on the back of the mobile suit, knowing that the pilot wouldn't be able to manuever the Guncannon out of the way.

"Cheater!" Cody called into the comm unit as he realized that the GM was coming in way too close for comfort.

At the last possible second, Cody fired the reverse verniers on full blast and sent his Guncannon flat on its back. The backpack unit containing the cannons an ammo loaders slammed into the ground. As the GM sailed over, he ignited the jets in the feet, and kicked up at the GM's midsection

OOC: How would using the verniers cause the Guncannon to go on it's back? You would have gone backward and slammed into my shield. Furthermore the Guncannon doesn't have any kind of vernier system that could do that up against a high performance MS like the RGM-79SP. I know this from 0079: Rises from the Ashes...

Uhg...nevermind...I'll just finish this quickly.

IC:

Ethan was somewhat surprised that any pilot in an RX-77D could force it's mobile suit to react in time. Smirking to himself as his keen eyes noticed the impact from the increased force from a sudden burst from the propellent tanks in the verniers, into the ground, caused the damage he had intended in the first place, causing the large cannon's to be inoperable.

The GM Sniper II lept into the air, not dodging the kick, but dodging the shoulders of the mobile suit now laying on the ground. Twisting the mobile suit in midair, Ethan landed the high performance GM on the ground, bringing it's machine gun level with the "enemy", and with only the faint pull of the trigger, he fired one round, splattering paint across the cockpit hatch.

"I've faced better rookie Zeeks at the end of the War...", with that he closed the communications link, and began his trek back to base.

"Hey, where ya goin'?" Cody said to the pilot of the GM. Cody's Guncannon reluctantly stood, then picked up its fallen machine gun, then boosted/ran along to catch up with the GM.

OOC: SOrry, I thought the holes in the shoulderpads were maneuvering jets...I never owned a Dreamcast, so I haven't played Rise From the Ashes...Maybe I should play as a D type on Zeonic Front or Journey to Jaburo.

OOC: Nope, but I can see where you got that idea. The RX-77D is fairly close to the original Guncannon, though weaker armor (hense why I said it suffered an inoperable blow to the back, though if i had to explain it more it is also because of the dense undergrowth of the jungle, along with the burst from the verniers).

IC:

Ethan looked over his shoulder seeing the Guncannon following behind him. Shaking his head, he returned his field of vision to infront of him.
"I'm returning to base, as per my orders."

Taking off his helmet he threw it down inside the cockpit and unzipped his skin tight uniform. If it wasn't for the climate controlled environment inside his mobile suit, Ethan would have been sweating up a storm. Closing his eyes he began to sum up what happened to the other pilot. "You should have used the jungle terrain more for cover than just running. The Guncannon loses accuracy on the move, so I figured you wouldn't try using those until you could actually stop. As long as you kept moving, so did I. Clever maneuver back there, but you didn't take into account all the variables."

Slowly, he opened his green eyes and turned back to look at the mobile suit behind him. "Now that you know your mistakes, I'd like to know why in the hell are you following me?"

"You're Ethan Teir, right? I'm Ensign Cody Morgan." Cody's Guncannon's right arm snapped into a salute. "I was just assigned to your unit, the Orion Star somethin' or other."

Cody swithched his viewscreen to a small camera mouted on the back of the Guncannon's head and surveyed the damage.

"The mechamen are gonna have a cow when they see this."

The right-side vernier nozzle had been smooshed into a pretty much inoperable angle. The Guncannon was also leaking paint from its damaged internal ammo storage pod.

"At least I didn't let you get the hit you were going for," Cody said to Ethan with a chuckle.

OOC: Yeah, I've saved the images of the 77 and 77D to my computer somewhere, and I've read Kazuhisa Kondo's comic adaptation of 0079. I do think the D type would be a little faster, though. But I hate not having a Beam Rifle.

"I don't even know what our official orders are," Ethan groaned as he saw the base slowly coming into view. "Just so you know, the higher ups give fancy names to the units that are simply sent for escort missions."

Soon the mobile suits were reaching one of the open passageways into the underground complex of Jaburo.

"Nyeh," Cody grunted.

The Guncannon stepped onto an elevator that, after about three seconds, began to descend into the depths of Jaburo's underground caverns. Once the elevator came to a stop, the Guncannon began to trudge back to its reserved spot in Hangar 133.

"Hey, boss," Cody called into his comm unit, "where do we go now?"

Once the RGM-79SP was in it's own spot, Ethan opened the cockpit and shook his head. "All they told me was return to base..."

"Leutenant Teir and Ensign Morgan, Correct?" shouted a woman that Ethan recognized as the one that had called him back in the first place. After giving a slight glare, Ethan rode the zipline down to the ground below.

"That is correct, I'm Leutenant Teir,"
he said with a salute.

"You two are to report in Admiral Zor's office once you have changed, your new assignments will be given in detail there," she spoke in a commanding tone. Ethan looked at her rank badge and saw that she was a Leutenant Commander.

"Understood," he turned to look at Cody, shook his head again, then began walking off towards the locker room. Groaning he unzipped his pilot suit further and pulled his arms out of the sleeves, letting it hang at his hips. "I hope he doesn't expect us to be in our dress uniforms..."

Cody grabbed his zipline and rode down to the ground. As he removed his helmet, and unzipped his ground forces vest, an angry mechanic came up and started yelling at him.

"Look, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again, but now, I have to go. Some new orders and stuff I have to attend to."

Cody pulled a rag out from one of his pockets to wipe the sweat from his brow, then followed Ethan to see the admiral...

Dressed in the typical dress uniform Ensign Valchenkov reached out to open the door to the Captain Mowzer's office. He stepped inside to see him sitting at the desk. Dmitri closed the door and shot straight to attention before saluting the Captain.
"Sir, Ensign Dmitri Valchenkov, the new Communications Officer for the Florencedale, sir."
He said in a strong, but quiet voice. Just strong enough to show respect and enthusiasm. All the while standing at attention awaiting the Captain's return salute.

Mowzer had just returned to his office to gather a few things before he had to head to one of the HLV launch pads. Just as he finished placing a bottle of scotch into a cardboard box, a man walked in, presented himself at attention, and identified himself as Dmitri Valchenkov, ensign rank. Captain Mowzer returned the salute, then lowered his hand to his side.

"At ease, Ensign. Didn't even know those positions were going to be filled on Earth, figured we'd get our crew once we reached Luna II, but no matter. If we were on the ship, I'd say welcome aboard, but instead," he gave a slight smile, picking up the box off of his desk.

The box contained a picture frame which showed a much younger Mowzer and Zor, standing in their uniforms, a female pilot in between them with her arms around the two. A few certificates of achievement, and other nicknacks, along with his scotch, all rested inside. "I guess we'll just head to HLV 02. From the report I recieved two pilots have been chosen for our mobile suit team, but I'll give a full mission briefing once we're on the Florencedale."

As he walked towards the door, Mowzer turned back to look at his small office. He couldn't help but hope this would be the last time he saw it.

When the captain began to speak he dropped his hands in front of him and spread his legs as he was told to do. Dmitri listened intently.

When he spoke of not getting their crew until Luna II he spoke up.

"Sir, I asked specifically to be transferred here sir."
Then he fell silent again before accompanying the Captain outwards to what he assumed was the Florencedale.
