Name: Kryse Salmance
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Height: 5’ 91/2”
Weight: Varies (hovers around 165-170lbs.)

Appearance: Image
This is an idea of how he looks.
His eyes are green and the white streaks in is hair glide over his ears. There is a wide belt around his waist with a gunhilt holster attached at the hip.

Job: Dark Knight

Weapon: Gunblade Prototype, Revolver Class.
Nexus looks like a standard Revolver but appearances can be deceiving. It was designed by Esthar’s R&D division to be a more advanced model. Instead of igniting an explosive shell like its older cousin, The Nexus sets off a shell that causes rapid oscillation. While this is a minor step up it can make even a dull blade dangerous. Nexus really shines with its hidden Trump Card. The blade is capable of splitting down the center exposing the FCS (Fire Control System) once exposed it can fire off a single blast of energy in the form of a beam.

GF: Diablos

Personality: An easy going type that makes friends easily and nice to a fault when it comes to members of the opposite sex. Befriend him and it will be a life long relationship, make an enemy of him and well…everyone has a dark side.

History: Born to the proud parents of Vincent and Rebecca Salmance, Kryse had an average if somewhat conflicted childhood. His mother is a highly intelligent woman who works at Odine Labs, but his father is a highly skilled warrior who loves to travel. Both parents had different ideas of what Kryse’s future would be, naturally his father wanted him to be a warrior but his mother preferred him to follow a more academic field. Kryse of course had no say, children seldom do. This resulted in being taken out to learn combat techniques one day and keeping his nose in a book the other.

They fought often, usually over the dangers of combat versus the need to know how to survive in the world. Both always made valid points but his mother always won and Kryse would spend the next day studying, he hated when they fought. He had a routine, but when they fought that routine was ruined, often for days at time. There were times when he thought his eyes would burn out.

After some years of this on again off again routine a solution presented itself. Esthar built a Garden. His father was satisfied because Garden instructors taught combat and his mother was happy that his studies would continue. It was great! Until…his father found out the combat instructor was incompetent. Parents often have high expectations for their children. This results in pushing them to excel, now combine this with a teaching position…yeah, poor Kryse now had his father as a certified Combat Instructor, and his expectations were never higher. To make matters worse he also harped on him about his studies and grades, Kryse loved his father, but hated his combat instructor.

As the years went by Kryse excelled in the fields of science and engineering as well as combat, his skill with the Gunblade was unparalleled thanks to his instructors strict teachings and his father’s techniques, but all was not golden. During a training exercise he was badly wounded by a Torama. The feline beast gave him a nasty gash, immediately a teammate cast Cure and what should have been a mildly severe wound became a life threatening ordeal. He spent a month in the hospital. During this time he was subjected to a battery of tests, the result of which was not very promising. He was crestfallen when the news arrived, but not as much as his father. His mother took it in stride; her son was alive and well and could devote his full time to more academic pursuits.

They fought again. This time however his father refused to back down but it didn’t matter, neither of them had a say this time. Kryse was 15 and despite what his parents thought he was capable choosing his own path in life, which turned out to be the same thing he’d been doing. It was the principle you see. So his studies continued as well as his training and now he finds himself on a train heading for Balamb to take his final test and join the ranks of SeeD.

Wow, that's really good. I definitely give my acceptance. Now we'll just wait for what Mozenrath says. I really hope he likes it as well.

So are Kryse and Alex going to be acquainted or not? I just need to know for the forthcoming meeting between all of our characters at Balamb.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby SuperVixen on Wed May 27, 2009 3:52 pm

Greetings all. Got the invitation to join the group and created this character on the fly. I'm sure many revisions will have to be made, but this is the first draft. Thanks and let me know what I can do for the group.

Name: Elia Barron

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 123 lbs.

Appearance: Image
The pic is just a rough image (it's Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid). I'm not using that as an exact detailed image of Elia, but the rule was that the character image needed to fit the description of a mercenary and I thought this would be perfect.

Job: Sniper/Soldier

Weapon: Rifle, survival

GF: Pandemona

Personality: If Elia were to be described in a single word, it would be intense. Everything in her life is taken at full tilt. She loves with all that is within her and hates with the same fiery passion. The young woman carries a fierce loyalty to those whom she trusts and is slow to forgive those who betray. Elia's competitive drive makes her a strong SeeD cadet, always pushing herself and those around her to go one step more. Her drive is not built around the idea of winning to humiliate others but rather around the idea that she can only get better if those around her are the best.

Elia is quick to fire off her mouth in a situation and, because of her intense personality, forms bond with others quickly. Her tendency to get too close too fast often puts her in awkward situations with friends and fellow cadets. Her firebrand nature is her defense mechanism, not afraid to talk a big game with the boys to avoid the inherent female emotions that are hidden beneath shallow skin.

History: A Deling City military brat, Elia Barron grew up playing all the games that her brothers did, most of them revolving around being great soldiers. It was no surprise that, one by one, those brothers left their little sister and the rest of the family behind for the hopes of serving their country well, dressed in a uniform and armed with a rifle. At the age of ten, Elia watched her closest sibling take off. Without the boys there as an outlet for her energy, Elia began to be too much trouble for a father that was never there and a mother that couldn't dream of keeping up with the firebrand daughter. The result? The calling in of a favor to ship the girl off somewhere far from where she would be under the temptation of following her brothers into the military. Balamb Garden. It sounded safe and the perfect haven for their little girl.

Elia would have never made it in the military -- but a mercenary? Her attitude and the way she looked at the world fit perfectly with the training that waited for her there. It wasn't just the haven from the world, it was a place where all her energy and competitive drive was fueled by the dream of one day becoming a SeeD. She developed quickly as a sniper specialist, a crack shot. Never afraid to get into combat with the use of a survival knife at dangerous range, of course, but Barron's talent lay in fending off fiend and foe alike with her trusted rifle.

Well, I'd say that's pretty awesome. The image is fine, too, if a little out of focus (such a popular, or at least well-known character must have a better image, no? Don't fret about it, but if you happen upon a better picture, you can replace this one).

I think Elia's personality will be a great addition to the party. And she'll bring long-ranged support, as well, which is definitely welcome.

So you'll be starting in Balamb Garden with Phileo, and join the rest of us when we arrive for the test, correct?

I think that I've learned enough about how Mozenrath judges a character to accept this one myself... but since you are not currently online as I write this I don't think there'd be any harm in leaving the decision up to him anyway. Besides, I should probably ask before I start doing that...

Mozenrath, can I? Pretty please? :D

So, let's see...

There's Zeke, Alex, Rin, Phileo, Kryse, and now Elia... what a coincidence, a perfect six. Two teams exactly, with no spares left over. I like how nicely that worked out.

I don't think that picture is out of focus. If you pay attention to the details of each stroke it was done deliberately as an artistic design... and a very well done job at that. The strokes, the shadow, the color tone... the details where it matters... I personally quite enjoy the artistic aspect. But that's just me.

Oh, of course; I didn't mean it was like a blurry photo, that kind of out of focus. I personally enjoy that particular art style as well; I found this rendition of Sniper Wolf rather beautiful. As a work of art, it's superb; as a replacement for a character description, though, it's somewhat lacking. But only somewhat.

But as I said, astoryandaprayer, don't worry about changing it. It's perfectly fine the way it is.

I chose the picture because I enjoy the art style myself, but also because I don't want Elia to be an exact physical copy of Sniper Wolf, she is just the starting point from which the character's physique and appearance is drawn. And it's hard to deny that the image definitely fills the role of both sniper and mercenary.

Awaiting your approval or any changes I need to make, Mozenrath. Standard, thanks again for the invitation!

Yeah, it's all good. By the way, ranger is what your looking for in terms of being a sniper. I know rangers are mostly associated with Archery and Crossbows, but apply to Snipers in modern settings (examples of modern Rangers would be Irvine Kineas, Barret Wallace, and Vincent Valentine). Rangers are usually described as someone who specializes in ranged weapons. Still, I don't mind it staying as Sniper for the sake of this being a modern setting.

So far... we have a...

Samurai (Zeke)
Thief (Alex)
Mage/[You never finished this part Mina] (Rin)
Unholy Renegade (Phileo)
Dark Knight (Kryse)
Ranger/Sniper (Elia)

Hey Dalmar, does Kryse use Armor/Shields? I would assume so, or it would probably be pointless to make him a Dark Knight. Armor doesn't have to be medieval. The Galbadian Soldiers wore what looked like modern body armor that Kryse could utilize. I only ask because Any knight class (Knight, Paladin, Dark Knight) is supposed to specialize in defensive strength (hence the armor). This is why Knights and Paladins have the Cover ability (take a hit that was meant for an ally).

It looks like we all specialize in different areas of combat. Which is good:

Zeke - Offense (With a bit of Speed/Evade)(Zeke's greatest strength will be that he is very skilled with his sword)
Alex - Speed/Evade
Rin - Magic Atk/Def
Phileo - Speed/Offense (Mostly speed, I would imagine)
Kryse - Defense (With a bit of Offense as well)
Elia - Accuracy (With a bit of Speed/Evade thrown in for good measure)

I was close to using the Monk class, but didn't for several reasons...

1. Final Fantasy VIII already had a Monk character (Zell) so I didn't want copy that.
2. There wasn't already a Samurai in existance (Squall doesn't count, I consider him a Fighter).
3. Samurai is my second favorite class (Monk is my #1)
4. If I had used Monk, you would hate me so much when it comes to battle (Monk was always my very best character style in combat and so I would have been a real asshole during any PvP battles due to the fact that I would probably be just short of abusing the Focus, Kick, and Chakra abilities).

The same thoughts crossed my mind in terms of character class, but I wanted to play into the FFVIII setting, where Irvine was designated specifically as a sniper rather than a ranger. Then again, in that game there wasn't much in terms of class distinction aside from appearance only when you really look at the mechanics. Still, thanks for all the information. Am I good to post now? I was hoping to get some interaction with Phileo in before the Trabia crew arrives.

Re: Final Fantasy VIII: SeeD (OOC)

Hmm...Originally no, I hadn't planned on him wearing armor. I wasn't thinking of a Knight in FFVIII being an armored sentinel. In FFVIII history Knights protected the Sorceress; the weapon wielded by a Knight was a Gunblade. An example of this is when Laguna was making the old movie. His job was to protect the Sorceress and his weapon was the Gunblade. Plus both Seifer and Squall protected a Sorceress, they were also called Knights.
Soldiers on the other hand wielded swords or guns and wore combat armour. Things seem to get turned around in a modern setting.

For the sake of the RP though I have no problem with giving Kryse some armor. It will be Estharian in design so he'll wear his clothing over it. My most recent post should explain why. By the way, I hope you don't mind the light heartedness of my posts. When I write Kryse I like to have fun with him because he has a potentially dark future.

Fun Facts: Character Classes
Squall: Knight/ Sorceress Knight
Rinoa: Sorceress (exclusive class)
Selphie: Gambler
Zell: Monk/Brawler
Quistis: Blue Mage
Irvine: Sniper (exclusive class) though Ranger works sinse Sniper is a Ranger ability

Exclusive Class = Non-SeeD

Sorry about the RP stalling out for a couple days. I was hoping Mina would post so she isn't left behind on the train. What's worse is that I'm not sure what we'll do if she's not back for a while. I'd hate to see such a Roleplay I'm particulary fond of (because FFVIII was my fav of the series) go stagnant.

I met Mina in another RP today and I reminded her to post twice between now and Friday or thereabouts, so I dunno what's going on with her. She's definitely been online with plenty of time to post. I would also hate for FFVIII: SeeD to die so young. Heck, I would hate for it to die ever.

So maybe we should continue on without Mina? Let Rin fade into the background for the time being? Not necessarily right this instant, but perhaps in one or two more days if Mina still hasn't posted, it might be an option worth considering.

Okay team, it has been three days with absolutely no activity in the IC thread. I know that some of us are waiting for others to reply, but can I suggest that we move forward with the writers that are active at the moment? The others should have a chance to catch up soon, but I was hoping that we could get some posts underway. Thanks!

It's unfortunate that some players can't post but the RP shouldn't stop. This has been a problem with RPs sense their conception. In fact it is the reason most if not all RPs die. No matter how much enthusiasm one had in the sign-ups, the true test is always the RP itself. In my experience many players seldom make it past introductions. A player unless integral to the story should not bring an RP to a stand still. (and there always the replacement option) I understand the want to give people time but you must also consider the other players as well. As they say...The show must go on.

Here's my idea, instead of waiting for a player, move on. The character can become invisible until the player returns or outright forgotten if the player decides not to participate.
