From the Ashes (Wolf RP IC 4 Opening Left)

Kaiser stalked slowly through the woods, glancing behind him every so often to make sure the small cub was following. Their coats were both reddish brown - though the youngster's was redder, lighter, fresher. The fur was matted and singed, but one could still sense the beauty, especially in Kaiser's determined pace and the bold look in his dark orbs. Hardship was a guarantee to a wild wolf. Born well, it only increased the creature's nobility.

Kaiser paused, letting the little one catch up. Two. That was all that was left of their pack. When the flame reached their den, Kaiser's sister had pushed the cub toward him. Understanding, Kaiser grabbed him in his jaw and ran while the others tried to collect the rest with promises to follow. They never did. Kaiser pushed back the idea that if the cubs had not been born, the rest of the pack would still be alive. It was his duty to his fallen pack to keep the future alive.

The pair had wandered aimlessly for a few nights, Kaiser taking down whatever prey he could without thoughts to who's hunting grounds they were in. It didn't matter anymore. The humans had strip the forest and the population down until there were only three packs remaining. There was only enough land for a full pack left. It was why they were now journeying with purpose to the clearing that had been designated as a meeting place for the survivors to establish a single pack. It was a nice theory, but in practice Kaiser wasn't sure if it would work. Their were no family ties. The only thing bonding them together was survival. He didn't know if that could be enough.

Tren followed his uncle as quickly as his small stature would allow him. He was resolute in proving he was tough; he could make it. Concentrating on this kept his mind from wandering. Death wasn't an entirely new concept to Tren. He was a predator after all, or would become one. Seeing prey fall had never made him wonder before though, as he had been ever since Kaiser had told them they weren't going back for the others; they were no more.

What did "dead" really mean though? The bodies were still there, at least for a while. It was more than the destruction of the body. (Where his parent's bodies still there? His siblings? Did the fire take them?) If the body remained, what happened to the being that once controlled it? Where did that go? Was that all Tren was? His beating heart? Tren didn't ask his uncle these questions. He has an awkward feeling there were no answers.

Tren lifted his muzzle as a howl split the air. A wolf had already arrived at the clearing. There were possibly others that had traveled with it. He wordlessly started to run behind his uncle, straining his tiny limbs in an attempt to keep up. They were very close. He knew Kaiser was worried about the idea of a new pack, but was not entirely sure why. For Tren, it marked the start of a new adventure. Maybe these wolves could fill the hole left by the loss of his family.
