Spartans, the strongest, fastest, and usually smartest soldiars the UNSC ever created. They were used to turn the tide during the war against the Covenant. They brought peace to the universe by being the best of the best, and according to the offical records all are still out there, listed as MIA. John-117 was the last, and he knew the truth behind it but could do nothing but keep going, keep being the best of the pest and honor his Spartan family.
Everyonw knoes of the Spartans from the SPARTAN II program, but very few knew of the SPARTAN III's. That is because all 300 of them were trained to die. They lead short painful lives that were extinquished for their mission. Instead of the well known MJOLNIR armor they wore SPI, or semi powered infiltration armor, a lighter, cheaper, weaker armor that allowed them a sort of camoflage. They dropped from pods, much like the ODST and ran to their deaths letting loose a battle cry that would make Homer's gods tremble.
But now, 50 years after the end of the human-Covenant war a new discovers has given rise to the need of more super soldiers, more Spartans. And so began the SPARTAN IV program. Children from the age of 4 to 6 were selected, taken from their homes, then placed on an entire planet dedicated to putting them to hell. Unlike before though, because of the precautionary number of children selected, there were three planets used. These were Thorn, Balance, and Shield. In doing so they were able to test nearly 2,000 candiates...only 500 survived to the end.
These 500 soldiars now make up the SPARTAN IV program. They are better in every way than their ancestors and wear a new type of armor known as GUNGNIR hat combines the best of both the MJOLNIR and SPI models. It is lighter but stronger, has camoflaging technology that makes them almost invisable, and has a over shield function. This function allows for fifteen minutes of near invincability, but for a short time after lowers the normal shields nearly to nothing. Because of this new technology the Spartans also have the ability to change heir armor color at will to match the enviroment.

Spartan Dante-313 sits in the back of the pelican looking around at the other Spartans that he calls his family. He holds his MA5B assault rifle lose to his crimson armor. It's a good, reliable weapon, but he prefers the two M7 sub-machine guns at his sides. During training on Balance he learned that he was best with close quarters battle and the SMGs felt right in his hands so he madfe them his specality.
All the Spartans around him had their own specailty. Some were snipers, some liked explosives, everyone was different, but the MA5B assault rifle was still standard issue for all Marines, and he guessed they always would be.
"Alright men, listen up!" Sergeant Willams yells over the roar of the engines. "You're going to be set down on the artifact known as Undercity. We still don't know what the hell it is, but if it's anything like the others ones that have appeared from slipstream space it's very dangerous. You are being sent down to guard the scientists and, when the time is right, go in and explore the artifact for them, is that clear?"
Any responce from the Spartans is cut off as the rear hatch opens and the Pelican sets down.
Outside the ships waiting for them are warthogs packed with extra ammo of all sorts and grenades. Some are Gauss-hogs but most are stanard issue turret carriers. The destination has already been uploaded to their HUD and appears as a blue marker in the distance.
"Alright Spartans, fall out!" Williams calls.
Unseal the hushed casket.

In the end, the older generations always sacrifice themselves for the newer ones, so that the children that make the new generation can have it better than they themselves did.

A dull thud sounds as Sparten Avalon-212 steps down from the pelican. Adjusting the settings on her HUD she looks around at her fellow Spartens, new ones, her old troop had been devistated and many were lost, she was the only one to remain fully intact and completely useable.
As a Sparten that is all she ever felt, useable, like a piece of machinery the goverment assigns to missions. She wasnt the only one to live through her last mission, but the other three Spartens who made it... well, are now being fitted for robotic arms and legs, they are retired to training the newest, youngest spartens.
Avalon meets the gaze of another, nodding she pulls out her sniper rifle, checks her magnum strapped to her leg, and counts her grenades.
'well, if i run out, i can always pick some up off one of these other sparten's bodies...' she thinks sighing to herself, this has been her mindset for the last couple years.
As the destination marker flashes on her screen she snaps herself out of her thoughts and makes her way towards a hog, she has had a lot of experience in driving so jumps in, tossing out a newbie, replying to his prostests.
"hey, ladies first... and i have seniority." she says honking the horn, looking back waiting for a gunner and a passenger.

Comms: Drop Team Omega, prepare for drop - signal field foxtrot, star-side alpha-zero a booming voice sounded off from the speaker system rigged in the drop bay. Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, elite marines and Sergeant Samir Taov was no different, just as elite as the rest of them. Although Samir would drop with a unit of Troopers, his mission had been slightly altered - Team up with the Spartan team already on the ground as he was recently assigned to intel ops for them.

Comms: Rear step, bay doors are locked. Drop Leaders secure your teams

This would be Samir's last drop as Omega's Team Leader, Sergeant Wilks was taking his place, good marine. Once Samir made sure all his men were secured in their drop pods, he flipped a thumbs up to the encased control room in the Drop Bay before getting into his own pod and being secured by the crew tech.

Comms: Drop is green, signal link clear, drop commence in five, four, three

Samir was never nervous in the pods, as the numbers were counted - he knew that it was really a matter of seconds before deployment, of course ODST was never designed for the faint hearted.

Comms: two, one, Deployment initiated

The pods shot down the hollow tube of the ship, flames and fuel guiding their path down to the drop zone. It had been a good run with Omega for Samir, but now it was time to branch out. Remaining a Marine, just on a different assignment.

Downward Speed, drop, deploy

Dante had waited until the rest of his Spartan team had moved out before standing and walking down the Pelicans lowered hatch and stepping into the alien soil.
"Reminds me of a desert...nothing but sunbaked earth as far as I can see." He says to himself with a sigh, although every member of his team can hear him. "At least there are a few hills, I hate flat land, alwayd an ambush waiting to happen..."
He straps his assault rifle on his back and heads over to a warthog. As he climbs into the passengers seat he looks up at the sky and watches as one of the new HEV Mk II pods drop towards them. It looks as if it will be landing close to the marker, but from this distance he can't really tell, he was never good with trajectory.
"I'm Dante 313, from Beta Company." he says, turning to the driver, who wears grey GUNGNIR armor.
Even as he greets the Spartan he's never met before he can hear the other hogs that have loaded up fire up their engies and start out across the scorched land towards the marker.

"Command, Omega is on the ground - I am going on with break away, Sergeant Wilks is effectively in command" Samir spoke through his helmet's comms unit. Starting away from the drop shells, giving one last silent nod to his old team, feeling though, that he will see them again. Keeping his SMG clipped to the front armor holster, Samir started towards his destination which glowed red on his HUD.

"This is Sergeant Taov to Spartan units in the area, cross check over" Shaking his head, Samir took in his surroundings, place was pretty much baren, not too impressive. Always an adventure. Looking around abit, he was supposed to meet up with the Spartans half way and then get ground pickup from them, the details of the objectives from there were not readily disclosed to him.

Mike never liked to be gunner, but he had no choice of the matter when all the hogs have been taken. He was the last to leave the pelican, stepping onto the scorched ground and identifying his target location. "Reminds me of a desert...nothing but sunbaked earth as far as I can see." The voice made him jump slightly but he calmed back down when he realized it was his commander "At least there are a few hills, I hate flat land, alwayd an ambush waiting to happen...". He grinned at that and hopped onto the last warthog, pulling back chamber to load the first bullet, His Battle Rifle strapped to his back. "Mike-255 reporting in" He said "Let's go before we get left behind"

Avalon nods to the Gunner and hits the gas. All four wheels of the Hog spin in the dry dirt as it lurches forward and takes the lead over the other hogs, they fall back in formation, much like geese do when flying south.
"God i wish there was a radio!' Avalon says letting out a laugh as she spots a large flat rock, she swerves and hits it, sending them temporarily airborn.
"Hang on to your hats." she calls as they land again and come rushing up to meet the newly dropped ODSTs.

Dante can feel his stomache leap into his throat as Avalon hits the gas and flies up and over the ramp. He hangs onto the hog with both hands until they get to the drop pod then he jumps out.
"Spartan 313." Dante says, getting out and saluting the ODST sergeant before going over to the pod and helping him gather his gear. "I like walking out the back of a Pelican myself." He says to the sergeant as he puts his gear in near by warthog that's waiting for him.
Once his things are put away he turns and looks at the marker. Blinking he magnifies his vision through his HUD and in the distance he can see a sandstorm picking up near the marker.
"Let's get moving." He says, getting back in with Avalon and Mike. "We need to beat that storm."

Nodded over to the Spartan, "Good to meet you 313. Name is Sergeant Taov." Samir greeted with a slight smile through his helmet, although it could not be seen. Watching the Spartan gather his things and put it in the back of their vehicle, Samir stepped over - climbing into a free seat. "You guys been out long?" he asked. Relaxing, letting his back sink back abit - Samir was just ready to get the show on the road. "I guess I'm your new intel and operations liasion, not really sure what they need me to do." laughing abit over his comms unit. He did not understand his presence from the first time command moved him to the bracket, not exactly sure why he was needed when most Spartans have their own, indavidual A.I - Or maybe it was a thing of the past.

"Let's just move before the storm hits" Mike said. He felt slightly disoriented from the bumpy road and was now rotating the turrent to keep an eye out on the surronding area "Split" He whispered. His HUD promptly did, splitting into four screens that showed the front, back, and both sides of where he was. A little modification he did a while back, excellent for surveillance, but difficult to master and impossible to use in a firefight, Mike fondly remembered how many times he felt sick praticing to develop quadruple vision. "Clear all around us" He reported, he felt slightly queasy watching the screens, but not as bad as it was whan he first began.

Looking around, seeing all the ODST's have either found a free seat. taking a firm hand on the wheel she hits the gas, grabs the shifter and throws it into drive and they take off, heading for the blue marker. dust whirls behind them and off to their left dust is swirling from the wind that is now picking up.
"What? you guys don't like a little dust?" she asks a smile in her voice.
"pussys!" she taunts a little.

"I take it you weren't put through the desert trainning on Balance..." Dante says with a sigh, haning on tight and activating his armors secondary air filter, added to all the GUNGNIR armor to keep dust and sand from getting into the air filters. "Beta Company was made to spend three weeks in the desert during storm season."
The dust swirls and picks up more and soon it's a full blown storm. The hogs cut through it but their engies can be heard bogging down as the sand sneaks inside. After an extra ten minutes they arrive at a large base camp made up of stand alone buildings grouped together in a semi-circle behind a larger solid structure, where all the machines and equipments were kept.
As the Spartans park the hogs in near rows just outside of the camp and file out along with the ODST and a few other Marines, an Elite step out from one of the tents. He wears a new type or armor, similar to that of the Spartans. It is sleek and the color of the sand. Beside him is an older woman in a lab coat with long black, greying hair.
"Hello, I'm Doctor Watson." She says, smiling at the armored giants before her, all at least a head taller. "And this is Nos 'Tavlee."
She raises a hand to indicate the Elite who nods.
Dant's hand instinctively goes to the SMG at his side. Although they had signed a peace treaty years ago he knew all of the gruesome details of the Coventant-Human war all to well and didn't trust this one.

Sat in the back of the hog silent, even as the Spartan spoke, Samir simply nodded. Comms: Sergeant Taov, this is Captain Ludlow, have you met up with your assignment? - "Yes sir, I have - just arrived at base camp, awaiting of brief." Samir replied through his net. Stepping away from the vehicle, the rest of the ODST's were to be put on security detail and remain within the compound while Samir supported special operations.

Crossing his arms, simply nodding to the elite as if it were human, standing side with the Spartans and listening to the woman in the lab coat, obviously a scientist.

A green phantom flew into the base and a black armored elite jumped out. He nodded to his second in command who threw out the stubby grunt and the elite on the ground caught him and st him on the ground. The elite saw many suspicious eyes, and some from veterans of the war. The elite ignored the hateful eyes and headed towards the camp while the phantom moved on to drop the team off. He saw an elite and a few other humans. That was where he was supposed to go. The elite extended his hand, " I am Oris Vadum, leader of the Forsaken, a little Spec-ops mercanry group. I came here because your leader offered us money and my elders wished me to come. " He nodded to the other elite, " Hello brother." The phantom flew overhead and it's occupants jumped out with carbines and beam rifles slung over thre back with plasma pistols, rifles, needlers, and energy swords on there belts. Funnily enough, one of the elites had a grunt on his shoulder as if on a piggy back ride if the grunt didn't have a fuel rod gun lazily at its side.

Avalon gets out of the hog and heads over with the others. She glances over as a Phantom drops out.
Elites, haven't seen any of them in awhile. she thinks as she looks at the two standing there.
Her hand slaps her leg just to be sure her magnum is still there and loaded. Looks from the aliens to the woman, waiting to hear what she has to say about their mission.

"I am glad you have arrived safely brother." Nos says, nodding to his fellow Elite. "I trust you had no trouble finding this rock."
"Ah, Oris, nice to meet you." Dr. Watson says, nodding to the new arrival. "Well, it seems everyone is here, let's head into the lab and I'll show you some images of the entrance."
Dr. watson turns and starts towards the largest building and the two Elites fall in behind her, one on either side.
"Have you been able to open it yet?" Dante asks curiously as they enter the large bullding.
"We believe we can open it, but we've been waiting for you." She explains. "We have no idea what might be on the other side, but we believe it will be dangerous."
Welcome doctor. The cool voice of an AI says from hidden speakers in the walls. So, these are the Spartans? I've read all the files on them, but they don't seem as extraordinary as they say...
A tall thin, blue woman appears before them at the center of the room. She looks like a princess out of a story book from long ago. Information scrolls across her white dress as she looks all fo them over.
"Alyss, this isn't the time." the doctor says. "Please bring up the files on the entrance."
Right away doctor...
Suddenly the room fills with holographic images of a long rocky road leading to the mouth of a cave blocked by a smooth blue-grey wall coverd in Forerunner glyphs. there seems to be no seam where the wall would part or any other way inside.
As Dante looks things over he has the camrea built into his helmet scan and record the images for reference later on. Though there was supposed to be nothing extra brought with the Spartans, but with Dante's habit of collecting information he brought along six back-up memory matrix cubes in a special slot in his armor, one of a few personal modifications he talked the higher-ups into adding to his suit.

Oris put his hands over the glyphs. " I haven't read any for a long time. " Suddenly his second in command Zerka raidioed in. " Oris sir, uhh, it's about the new recruit Siro? Eh, he kind of screwed up the phantom.: Oris sighed and said, " I'll be there later. Throw him into a tent and keep him there." He switched off the radio.

Mike ws never bothered by the arrival of the elites. He had to spend a few years with them when he began to train in Coventant weaponary and vehicles. Stepping off from the turrent he switched to his frontal view and peered at the image curiously "So we're breaking into this thing and seeing if we piss off any critters?" He grinned "I'm beginning to like this plan, when do we start?" He looked over at his commander a small gleam of interest in his eyes as he waited for a response

Shifting weight from one foot to the next, Avalon looks around curiously. she hasnt spent many missions inside, as a sniper she was used to canyons and open places. The A.I. Pique Avalon's interest.
'oh, so we were studied, we must be on a tough mission then, if we were hand selcect... big chance of death.' she thinks to herself, remembering how normally they just select the nearest expendable resource, Sparten or Marine. Looking to the others around her Avlon wonders which and how many of them she might have to drag back as corpses.

"We will be ready to open-" Dr. Watson is interupted by a dull roar that comes from the direction of the entrance. "Nos?"
"I'll check it out." Nos says with a nod before drawing the needler from his holster and heading outside. A few moments later he returns. "We must hurry. Whatever is inside the artifact has opened it. Spartans, brother, you are needed now."
Dante looks from Nos to the doctor, who nods towards the door. Dante returns the nod then unslings his assault rifle and marches outside to find a large cloud of dust near where the entrance was supposed to be. As the scientists and other Marines near there work to clear the smoke he can see a large black opening looming before them.
"How big is this place?" he asks, turnign to look at the doctor.
"We aren't entirely sure." Watson says. "From the sonar scans we took this artifact may make up a major portion of this planetoid. I'm afraid you won't be able to get any rest before your mission starts. Pleae, hurry in and neutralize any immediate threat so the camp will be safe. I hate to ask this of you so soon, but I know you will be able to handle the job."
Dante and a few of the others nod then head on towards the large, strangely smooth looking opening.
"With an explosion like that I would expect to see some rubble." Dante says over the Spartan com system. "That doorway must have been massive. I can't wait to see what the droids look like."
