"Invasion: 3025"

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby CobraKing95 on Wed Jul 04, 2007 8:46 pm

The year is 2025. It is a time not unfamiliar to our own. The world is in a time of relative peace, in the eye of the public. To the EID, things are much different. The EID is a secret government agency known as the Extraterrestrial Interactions Department. Earth's technologies are, and have been, far more advanced than the general populous believes. The EID refuses to disclose this technology because it confirms the existence of aliens and would endanger the public. However, their worst fears have been realized. A full-scale invasion is underway and Earth has no army suited for protection. The choice is either expose these technologies and cause global panic, or let all of Earth be caught off-guard and be destroyed. The EID chose neither.

Connor Kelly's legs were growing weak. He'd been standing in line for two days. Everyone had been. Hundreds of people lined up around the world to get in to the best event of their lives, possible all time. They were going to the arcade. Not just any arcades. Virtuacades. They were built globally for one purpose: to play the latest in virtual reality gaming, to play "Invasion: 3025" The game wasn't just some buttons or a special suit. You went into the game.

As midnight drew closer, the skies opened up, soaking Connor. His blond hair hung down in a wet clump. He was wearing a dark green jumpsuit, as was everyone. They were given out when he pre-ordered his subscription a month ago. As the rain fell harder, he donned the included helmet, with the visor up. At the stroke of midnight, the doors opened up and the crowd shuffled in. Connor was one of the fortunate one who got in at first. The inside was massive, but mostly empty, save for the walls and center being lined with large, futuristic-looking arches. A man stood up on the platform in the middle of the building.

"Welcome!" he greeted. "To the biggest event in all time! You're all here because you want to experience the utopia of all gaming. Well, I won't delay you with fancy words or any of the like. When the portals are opened, place your right palm on the scanner so it can read your access code on your jumpsuits. Then step in. Now, without further ado, don your helmets and go where no man has gone before!" With that, the man activated the portals, and the insides became a swirling, red vortex. The gamers rushed to the portals, and when the placed their palms on the scanners, the portals changed from red to green and they ran in.

Connor's HUD lit up and he found himself holding a plasma cannon. At his hip were two lazer pistols. He was floating in the vacuum of space, near Saturn. Ahead of him, faster gamers were already engaged in active battle with some mechs. The computer in his suit started targeting enemy mechs. Connor picked up on the idea and his jets surged him forward. He steadied himself when he got in range, aimed at the targeted mech, and let loose his plasma beam. A blast of blue light shot out from the end of his cannon and the mech exploded. A female voice said, "Enemy Iru Mech: Destroyed"

OOC: You join as a gamer playing Invasion: 3025. The Iru and technologies are loosely defined at the moment, so you are limited to what your mind can conjure up. BTW, everyone plays in the same area, so you can communicate with each other and fight side by side. If you choose to, you can be a friend of Connor. I'm not picky, so if you're literate, you're in.
Make your biography a book worth reading.

ooc (Hey forgive me if im wrong and just tell me so i can correct it But im saying that corey and connor went to school together but didnt really know eachother personally?)

Corey was standing behind connor in line. He didnt realize this either though. He had been in connors class for the last couple years. He turned back and looked at his friend jack. They had been best friends throughout middle and high school and had always loved simulation games. They made one of the best teams on war tactic games. "Hey owl. ready for this. I heard it was going to be the best game ever and it wont be beat for a few generations."

'Owl' looked over at corey and gave him a smile. "Same here. This is going to be so cool!" Jack was nicknamed owl because of the large glasses he wore. He had even been given this nickname for another reason too. In almost every game owl played he was a sniper and he was given the name because the scopes on a sniper rifle if looked in from the other end would make his eyes seem huge just as his glasses did.

When they had suited up and the gates opened they both sprinted in with wide smiles on their faces. They where some of the first 10 people into the gates. When they regained their focus the looked at eachother. Owl who was always a more indepth gamer had spent a little extra money so he could start out with a medium quality beam rifle. Corey on the other hand started out with the standered issue lazer pistol and standered lazer assault rifle which resembled to some extent a M16 assault rifle.

Corey nodded at owl and ran towards a mech which hadnt been attacked yet and pulled out his lazer rifle and fired two shots at it to get its attention. The mech with shocking speed for its size spun around and swung at him. He ducked and rolled away smiling. Owl who had remained behind was sighting down the scope straight onto the mechs head and pulled the trigger. The beam was almost instantly at its target and burrowed straight through its head leaving a smoking hole behind. Owl was an expert sniper and corey was the one who went in for the close range fighting and helped set up owls shots. They both smiled at eachother over the long distance as the female voice acknowledged their kill. He spoke over a small mike to owl. "Very nice shot man!"

ooc (sorry but is it okay if i control owl? and on another note. If anyone joins and wants to take over owl be my guest if not i dont much care. And CobraKing95 I really like the set up. I was thinking of starting one like this but didnt know how to go about it but i think you did a great job)

OOC: Yeah, it's all cool. Thanks for the compliment!

BIC: Connor was amazed at the seamless technology. Moving felt natural and fluid. When he wanted to go faster, his jet pack, which he didn't know he had, started up immediately. There were no complex control schemes, just think and your body moves.

As the battle waged on, he noticed how powerful the mechs were. If he could pilot one, he could win this whole damn thing. So he started up his targeting computer and selected a mech behind enemy lines. It was still intact and should have all its ammo. As soon as he was locked on, his jets started up and he was closing distance fast. He was being assaulted left and right, and he could barely shoot fast enough. A couple of the other players noticed him breeching the lines and started forming around him, providing cover fire. One of them shouted, "What the hell do you think you're doing?!?" Connor, still blazing ahead, said, "I'm going to hijack a mech. Cover me," and he sent the coordinates of the targeted mech to them. There were a few gasps of awe in response and a couple of annoyed gamers who wished they had thought of it first.

He was coming in fast and the mech was unloading all it had towards him. By the time he was several feet away, he had nearly gotten his head blown off and there were singe marks on his suit where he had come close to being fried. He decelerated and drew his lazer pistol. He quickly fired three shots at the cockpit. The glass started cracking and he moved in for the kill. When the glass broke, a rush of debris shot out at Connor. He had forgotten that he was in a vacuum. All the air pressure was escaping from the mech and fast. The Iru pilot lunged at him with its reptilian appearance and insectoid mandibles. Connor needed to get out quickly, so he kicked off the pilot's head and started a backflip. When he was upright, he unleashed a lazer round into the Iru's face and was met with a satisfying explosion.

Unfortunately, he wasn't out of the danger zone, yet. Pressure was still escaping and the mech was expanding in a few seconds, it was going to blow. Jets blazing, he shot out of there with the explosion flames at his heels. On the up side, the explosion took out three other mechs, who in turn, took out five more, bringing the total to nine.

Connor switched to the main channel and said, "Bust the cockpits and they become fireworks. Yee haw, this is gonna be a fun battle!" His new discovery was met with battle cries and shouts of joy as the sector was lit up with the orange glow of exploding mechs.

Corey had stood there watching connor fly by him and attack on of the mechs. After the nice little display he smiled. The guy was smart but very daring. He lifted his rifle and fired a quick double tap straight into the cockpit of a nearby mech and it exploded almost instantly. He turned his head just in time to see that one of the mechs had snuck up behind him and had its lazer locked onto the back of his torso. He could see into the glass at this range and the iru gave him a knowing smile and lifted its tenticle like finger over the firing button. In a split second a beam burrowed through the glass cockpit and straight into the irus left eye.

Corey looked back to see owl pointing his beam rifle straight at the cockpit. Owls voice crackled over the private channel they had established. "So looks like you have gotten rusty. eh?" corey laughed over the mike as he aimed at another mech and fired into the cockpit watching it explode. He spoke over the mike " Ya right you just got lucky."

The Iru were getting smarter. Connor was now the hunted. They saw him as the largest threat and started forming around him. His ammo was running low and his guns were overheating, so he flew straight at a mech, grabbing onto the mech's cockpit. None of the mech's weapons were capable of removing him, so some other mechs unloaded their cannons towards Connor. He pulled himself up over the mech and behind it. He kicked off the back and shot away from the mech as friendly fire made it no more.

His satisfaction was short-lived, however, as someone shouted on the open channel: "Asteroid shower!" Connor looked up and saw the massive chunks of metal and rock hurling towards the battle. Iru fire died down as the majority of the mechs retreated. As gamers jetted away from the barrage, shouts of relief were broadcast. Everyone was safe and the Iru were fleeing with their tails between their legs. Connor was looking to the moon with portals, where they had come from, and noticed that it was in the direct path of the asteroids.

He screamed into his mic, "The asteroids are going to destroy the portals!" Everyone looked at the moons and saw that it was true. They had about ten minutes to stop the asteroids. Cannon fire from all directions focused on the incoming assault, but there were too many asteroids. There had to be something else they could do...

Corey looked towards the direction in which the asteroids where rocketing towards them. Owl had already lifted his beam rifle and was firing dead center into some of the smaller debris. If it was rock it would break into much smaller less damaging pieces and if it was metal it would be deflected away from the group of them. Corey was looking around when he heard the warning about the portals. He looked over to the large portals and shouted into his mike " Is there any way we can move them?" He looked around wondering if anyone had heard him over the other shouts.

Time slowed to 80%, then 50%, then 30%, then stood still. Corey looked around, he had been the only thing not effected by the time slow apparently.

"hey, did the server crash or something?" he yelled into the air. Instead of a reply, a small white lightning bolt arced arcoss the sky, landed just in front of Corey.
"woa..." in front of Corey stood a magnifecent white lion, his mane was full, and his eyes gleamed as if they were real.

"hello warrior" the lion said

corey looked around unimpressed. "what is this, some sort of virus or something like that?"

"warrior, you know so little and yet so much" the lion said in a machine-femine voice. "warrior, you hold a great deal of power, your choices are few, but great."

Corey looked around, the sim still was frozen, a human was being thrown into the air, almost comicly, from the force of an explosion. "what kind of BS is this?"

"warrior, i will seek you out again, you will not know its me, but i will know its you."

"alright mufasa, just what the hell do you mean by all this". Corey was getting irritated at this stupid lion.

"warrior, do not take the left turn, your future, as well as the world's depend on this".and with that, the lion dissapitated. time went to 30%, 50%, then 80%, then normal. The human from the explosion flew across the battlefield. Corey was still trying to grasp the situation when a familar voice came into his ears.

"Corey, 8 o clock!"

"wha?" an asteriod was hurtling at Corey from his right side (8 o clock)
Sanity is just a limitation

If I was normal, then why would you even acknowledge me?

Go Eagle Go!

OOC: Capitals are your friends. Tone the acid down a bit.

BIC: Connor heard Corey's voice over the open channel. "I'm not sure," he replied, "but I think we can move it if we concentrate our jetpacks and some mech thrusters on one side." Connor scanned the area for Iru technology. He found some mechs that still had leg thrusters in decent condition and flagged them. Others followed suit and more green blips appeared on his HUD. Those closest to the mechs started moving them to the moon, and those near the moon started a formation on one side.

Connor quickly checked the rankings of the battle and added the top fifty marksmen to a new channel. Speaking to the other forty-nine, he said, "You are all the best shots in the game. I need you to give the movement group cover fire. We can at least buy them some more time by taking out as many asteroids as possible."

On the open channel he said, "Okay everyone, start up your jetpacks and thrusters!" The command was followed out and the fire created an immense roar. Some who started their jets first crashed into the moon, but eventually the formation acted as one. The moon slowly moved forward.

On the closed channel of fifty, Connor heard someone say, "The computer says it'll take eight minutes until they reach the safety zone, and if we don't start shooting now, they'll be destroyed in four." Connor excitedly shouted back, "Well what're we waiting for?" and loaded his lazer cannon.

ooc: Hey um i was just curious are you taking control of corey now cause thats what it seemed like? And I was planning on controling corey perminently. Sorry im just wondering.

IC: Corey turned to his left in time to see a medium sized asteriod hurtling at him. He jetted out of the way as it barely clipped his shoe. He jetted over to the formation and started to push. They didnt need to move it far but just far enough. A random thought shot through coreys head and he laughed loudly. He wondered if they changed it enough the moon wouldnt look the same on earth. He continued pushing as it slowly moved he looked over his shoulder to see the marksman firing on the debris and almost everysingle shot landed. Owl was one of the best though. He was firing on the asteroids at a rate of one shot per second yet each one landed perfectly and never missed.

Antony stepped through the portal, and was quickly filled in by his computer, and what was happening. The current objective was to keep the portal from being destroyed. He was assigned by the portal as a Machine Gunner, to help maximize the success ratio. Quickly moving to the side of the portal, Antony hit the stablize command on his MG, and it instantly became a fixed turrent.

Antony began firing a barrage of shots at the astroids, breaking apart the largest ones. He then said over the open channel, "Yo, anyone know if this game auto ranks or if we have to elect a leader?"

Connor was grateful for the new cover fire. He noticed that it was the same user as the one who spoke on the open channel: "The 616". Another user replied, "It's an automatic scoring system. The computer records your kills, hit/miss ratios, and such and you get a rank. The leader at the moment is 'Firestorm19'." Connor heard his username spoken and realized he was the leader. He hadn't been looking at the scores during the battle. Despite this good news, he was still focused on the battle. As the moon slowly moved, the area of asteroids that could hit it waned. Noting this, he flagged the area that was still dangerous so firepower wouldn't be wasted on harmless asteroids. He checked the estimated time on his HUD and they still had six minutes until they were clear.

Connor heard the comment and kept firing. His reply was still on the open channel. He wanted everyone to hear. "Listen, I'm not a general. I don't want to take command, but as the situation is, I'm the one who has the closest thing to a plan around here. If you have a better idea, be my guest and take command. Until then, I'll have no insubordination. About the ammo, we kicked the Iru's asses. They were starting to retreat even before the asteroids. We'll resupply after the portals are safe. If we can't get back to the real world, there's no point in worrying about the game. So shut your mouth and keep up the cover fire!"

"From what I heard about this game, sir, this isn't going to be a cake walk. I'll bet anything those Mechs are going to take an attack of oppertunity and attack as soon as they see us going for resupply." Antony argued, "And by the way, you ARE a general now. Your user is marked with it."
