Knowing Knowledge

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby dealing with it on Sat Dec 16, 2017 6:29 pm

What does it mean to know something? Is there a difference between "knowing that", "knowing what", "knowing why", and "knowing how"? And one step farther: can we know what knowledge is without circular reasoning?

I personally think that "knowing why" and "knowing how" are far superior to "knowing that" and "knowing what".

For example, it is easy to know why the sky is blue, but it means more to know how and why the sky is blue.

I hope that my response makes sense.

Do you mean that it is easy to know "that" the sky is blue? I think you got lost.

I'm not sure if I agree with that sentiment anyway. Do we know that the sky is blue to other people in the same sense as it is blue in our own perception?

Aniihya,
I'd rather debate something that everyone has a stake in and can find an answer to. But nobody cares about metaphysics any more. God is dead. Epistemology is the next best.

Well basically my argument used to be that knowledge comes in different forms, mainly subjective knowledge aka what you think you know and objective knowledge, existence debatable, generally a common ground or consensus but not necessarily truth. Then truth cannot absolutely be known, but is constantly claimed. There is also a difference between knowing and being right, because little knowledge is actually truthful.

Donald Duck is making an argument about value (lack of value leads to absurdity), whereas Mickey Mouse is making an argument about metaphysics (all knowledge comes from unprovable assumptions). They are talking passed one another. However, as far as epistemology goes, they don't disagree. They just come to their position from different directions.
