Left Wing and Pro Gun

Tips: 0.25 INK Postby Aniihya on Sat Jun 30, 2018 3:03 pm

Do you see left wing and pro gun as contradictory or is it perfectly doable in your opinion?

For example, I am a left libertarian/mutualist, meaning I support mutual aid networks and fair labor, but am also a social libertarian who supports people to live their lives as they see fit as long as they do not limit the liberties of others. So I am for the decriminalization of marijuana, for free expression, for freedom of speech and that also includes the freedom to own a firearm for sporting or hunting purposes.
Everybody! Unless you have been in a roleplay with me in the past and were loyal to it, do not PM or text me about joining your RP.

I do NOT do Pokemon, Yugioh, WoW or any such RPs.

Please be aware of this.

The modern left has diverged significantly from its liberal roots — truly, the most liberal position would be in favor of permitting gun ownership. Conversely, restricting gun ownership to an elite group or authority would be closer to fascism, as it restricts the liberties of the people and further divides society into two distinct classes (a concerning trend, given a cursory study of history).

Modern politics is weird. Be wary of doublespeak and the resulting cognitive dissonance!

Well American "liberalism" is akin to statism often of authoritarian variety. Elsewhere left wing tends to be rather Marxist or socialist. But then there are us center left libertarians that support gun ownership, examples are the folks at C4SS, the pirate parties (internationally) and mutualists. I tend to be at odds with syndicalists just as much as with ancaps, but "ancoms" are worse and in my opinion not true anti-authoritarians as a lot of them would turn 180 degrees and favor dictatorships and censorship of dissidents.
