â†Ē Surreal*Twilight

Official Link: http://www.surrealtwilight.com is recognized as Surreal*Twilight.

A smaller role playing community that is fun and friendly. The striking difference from it and other forums is that it has a minimum standard of writing for all role plays.

Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:37 pm Asura Absolutely stellar site.

I rp'd on myspace for a number of years, and all through that I constantly encountered the dreaded "1337 SP33k" or chat language. I frequently put paragraphs and paragraphs of really good stuff into my replies, recieving a mere sentence in return.

Then I came to Surreal Twilight-
Right away, it felt like home. A large array of genres, and a memberbase that is active and always willing to help a newcomer on the sight. The RPs were literate and of great length, and I can think of no better place on the internet for writers than the forums at Surreal Twilight!

Sat Jan 30, 2010 6:11 am Father Mudkip If you're looking for a literate RP board, this is the one for you. The site imposes a minimum standard of writing through a graduation system, to weed out all those little typo-ridden Mary Sue writers. RPs range from childish G-rated to steamy X-rated styles, with different subforums based on genre. The layout is concise, with various creative backgrounds depending on your flavour of preference. Surreal*Twilight is a primarily English-speaking board, but you won't have to look hard to find multilingual users. The mood of the general discussion is really very relaxed, while maintaining maturity - there's a separate group of forums for fooling around, which I know we all enjoy now and then. The administration is very open to suggestions, and the userbase is surprisingly friendly and welcoming. 10
Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:37 am Psychotic Flesh This is by far the best role play site I know of, and I doubt that I'll find any to beat it. Having come from a site that was extremely restrictive on role play content, it was refreshing to discover somewhere that allowed complete artist freedom, that doesn't even stop with writing. Members are allowed, and encouraged, to post portfolios of their work, be it drawing, painting, music or something else entirely.

The staff are friendly and welcoming, as are the majority of the members and with the grading process, you know that all graduates possess good writing skill, relieving any fears of one liners or the dreaded mary sue.

Wed Nov 04, 2009 2:58 pm Sonata It is a very nice site to get good quality role play. The site is clean though it has its mature role plays, but it is kept neat and tidy. It's only problem is that there just aren't enough people on it to always have a role play running. Hopefully, they get more people. 8
Tue Aug 16, 2016 9:47 pm Rhythm Cake Last activity was half an hour ago, while it was officially setup in 2013 (I think; it's the oldest I got from the Site Notice board). The site looks very simple, purple on white, with categories determined by student vs graduate (which you are deemed once you passed a literacy review, but this system is currently not enforced). Once you are a graduate, you will be eligible to other boards where every other writer has also passed the test. Consider it an elite club, without the stuck-up attitude.

The traffic was bustling back when I joined the site around 2014~2015. Now it has dwindled due to the founding members being sideblinded by life's hijinks. The site has its own domain, built upon Invision Power.

There are currently 38k posts on the site, with roughly five to six thousand of them in the IC threads, which means more than 30k posts were from chatter, discussion and forum games, implying (what was) a talkative community.

FINAL SCORE:

7 out of 10. From the looks of it, all they need are some persistent new blood to revert back to its former glory.
