@Electric Pool, I can imagine Jacqueline running along the dock as the Acheron is casting off. Last minute leaping from the shore to the side of the ship type thing.

Oh! Yes sorry for being so vague. I really should have studied how the ranking system works with the Navy. Been a bit lazy lately if I have to be honest. :'D Okay so which would be more realistic sorry? Admiral or commodore? Just 'cause you questioned Admiral and Commodore but explained Commodore first then Admiral. <:D I'll just say he would be the most realistic rank then. Thank you so much for explaining, saves me a lot of trouble.
Hm William sounds like a good typical English name. Yeah, Ivory's brother's name is William. Also good idea on treating Nathaniel's wounds. I'll have Ivory offer to help. Oooo I can't wait for all the drama!

@ Apple- Admirals are like modern day generals. Their job is to say jump, and everyone starts jumping. They command fleets, and don't have many people over their heads short of the Admiralty board and the King himself. Commodore's are like Squad leaders, in charge of a handful of ships that sail as a unit. It would be a lot more likely Ivory's brother is a Commodore I'd think, but there's potential to play with in either position.

It also depends on how old Ivory's brother is. I wouldn't think anyone younger than their forties or fifties, maybe a lil older being an admiral just from the amount of experience you'd have to have to be considered at all. It's not a position you just get by being a good sailor for X amount of years, you know?

Food for thought. Like I said, you could make either work. If Ivory's brother IS an admiral, we could wind up with a battalion of ships looking for the Acheron, which could get really interesting, really fast. A Commodore could make it his personal mission to go pirate hunting, assuming he has no conflicting orders in the area he is to patrol. Either could work really well.

Or the Navy could show up as the Lighthouse burns to the ground, and the ship just so happens to be leaving... Thanks for the suggestions, lol. I'm interested in how Ivory's family is going to react to him becoming a pirate. That's def not going to go over well.

Just so everyone is aware, this picture is what I'm using for the layout of the Acheron. I also have a diagram of what each sail is called if people want. (http://www.uow.edu.au/~morgan/graphics/nov4.gif)

The picture is slightly deceptive as the top deck is sunken between the captain's cabin and the livestock housing. I think it's called the 'spar deck', with the 'gun deck' below and the 'berth deck' below that. On larger ships there would be an 'orlop deck', but on the Acheron it goes straight to the hold.
