Thunder railed and peace was shattered, a scream unheard and unanswered tore through the emptiness of space, as a vessel was forcibly shoved from the womb of the void and out into the open...

None of this was witnessed of course, as there was nothing within billions of lightyears of this vessel, shaped like a planet, the size of a massive star, yet seemingly made of billions upon billions of pieces, like a giant puzzle.

A beacon blinked and a signal went out through all the universe. This signal would be received by every dish, antenna, satellite, and even psychic mind. It held a message, and it's message was as follows

"You that would claim the powers of creation and destruction, who would rise to godhood and bring peace and order to war and chaos. Seek now the key that sits at the center of Aggrival, and claim the ultimate weapon."

It took nearly seventeen hours, but the Cobalt Glaive had finally managed to complete it's jump.

"We're outside Langara Captain" Emily called out. "Shock Points Cooling, about fifteen minutes before we can begin descent"

"Not gonna worry about that Emily, This is the Aschen Homeworld afterall. Give it a minute, maybe less, they'll be here in a big old swarm, all tripping over themselves to figure out what it is we're up to." The captain replied, taking a sip from a glass in hand. The man sat at ease in a high command seat that was situated in the perfect position to look over the rest of the bridge. "Well, either that or they'll blow us to bits and then send someone to investigate later" He amended his earlier statement.

The alarm that spread over the bridge was palpable, but he waved his hand "Don't worry you guys, we're not nearly that unlucky. At the very least I think they'll be curious how we got here, after all they normally don't get unannounced visitors this close to home without any warning at all."

The captain Chuckled, patting his arm rest and taking another sip. "Any second now."

Dorant came into the room, clutching half his robes hiked over his pants in his haste. The old man dropped them immediately upon entering the new area and became fascinated by the walls, throwing all caution to the wind and muttering nonstop as he investigated the new scenery.

His behavior, and the language he spoke, was disconcerting with the image he presented. He seemed to be muttering absolute nonsense, as though speaking a made up language. And while that may leave him seeming harmless, one could not help but remember the item he acquired from the golem, the fang of a creature, almost as long as a broadsword, that he called a "baby Tooth"

that anything could have a tooth that large and still be considered an infant was concerning to be sure, but why would a seemingly daft old man have such an item represent his abilities?

Medical Bay
Most of the occupants of the medical bay's beds were asleep, sedation being seen as a far more preferable state than writhing in pain. The most heavily wounded occupants of the beds were sedated even more so, and the monitors attached to their beds marked them as terminal. These soldiers might be saved, but it was unlikely, and the efforts that would be put into helping them would be better used for those that had a greater chance.

This was the bitter truth of Triage. Ean kept a fair distance away, holding Akio back for the same reason that he didn't approach. The nurses and doctors were still working to save as many as they could. Ean stood silently, his face softened by sorrow yet the unmistakable expression of one who'd seen such things play out was impossible to hide on his face.

It would quickly become apparent to Akio that Ean had not, in fact, brought him here to talk with the soldiers, indeed it would be impossible for them to talk without getting in the way of the doctors and nurses. He had brought Akio here to see what impact his choices had.

In a soft voice the Captain said "Any man arrogant enough to proclaim the fate of another, dooms himself to jaded despair. As I said, your choice was the best one that could have been made, and things would have been much worse had you taken any other path." And here, the Captain turned to Akio. Akio would then see in the eyes of Captain Falcor, with clarity granted by the artifact taken from the wastelands, a wisdom beyond the ken of mortal men. In that moment it would be obvious, for so fleeting a time, that this simple man was anything but. Just as Akio had the wisdom of his ancestors to rely upon, it would seem that Ean had something far deeper, and maddening, that guided his steps.

"As you once said to me 'The principles and values of an individual are never to be questioned'. And that was true." Ean took a flask from his hip and opened it, pouring a drink into the lid and offering it to Akio. "There is a balance to be maintained between the two, between what we need and what we want. Between when the rules should be followed and when they should be broken.."

And Ean said to Akio then. "What is your next move, Wanderer. Will you let the pain caused by your choice wound and cripple you, or will you take that pain as a reminder of the costs of victory?"

The Princess blinked only once at hearing the princes words, her smile growing somehow brighter as he explained the situation. As the prince finished and exited the room, she once again stood up and curtsied to him, before regaining her seat.

Halena looked expectantly at the adjutant who walked in, and excitedly clapped her hands at the Adjutants words "Oh yay, is it time for us to put on the play?" She said with glee, Tolend gave her a look, directed mostly at the back of her head. Halena, in response, said to him "Oh hush, With all the doom, gloom, and pessimism going on, Everyone needs to have a bit of fun now and again, how else do you stave off Naprosis"

Halena turned to Marlene with a wink at that. "Naprosis, btw, is a condition perhaps similar to what you know as attention deficit disorder? For minds that process information faster than others, it's a serious condition that can lead to severe trauma and even insanity. Most scholars believe it's caused by prolonged inactivity and boredom."

Signature

The best stories do not have just one or two characters, but all sorts of characters. You might not see them that often or know them that well, but the fact that they were there is what makes the story seem real.

After all, Life is full of characters, is it not?
