I think it was stated a bit earlier of being human's only.

And yes, you may join someone elses crew as long as your character fits in with that crew's style.

(Don't be a navy sailor on a pirate ship, for example)

Navy ships?
Pirates?

I know theres merchant ships from the trade routes between cities on the map.

The three crews give a lot of diversity. We have the More Aztec-ish or something Crew. NYC it is, I was thinking the of the city closest to me, but its wayyyy smaller than New York xD, not as important either.

I must warn you, decepticons like to blow holes in buildings, so they might let loose on your city like it shows them doing with their ships in the Transformers 3 trailers xD
