Re: What's your opinion on my poem?

Perhaps the overuse of the word is more an effort to make the reader as sick of comfort zones as the poet. If the point is to illustrate comfort zones, then surely some more imagery is needed. On the other hand, I once heard a poem called 'Rape', in which the word 'rape' was said or screame in a var...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

How do we ensure their rights are protected? It is the same exact contract with a different name, to avoid all the cultural issues that would come along with it. Right, let's break it down: An institution that has always and even without laws saying so, will always be called marriage needs to be le...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

You are using your view on the definition of marriage to determine what it means in law. By ignoring other people's views, like you are, and using your views to define something cultural, you are oppressing people. You still haven't given a valid argument against it. The idea that the majority view...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

Second, look at the dictionary. The first definition that we saw in our links was that it was between man and woman. People believe that. People also believe things like you do. Don't force change on them... How is adapting marriage to mean what one group wants it to mean IN ANY WAY change how othe...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

Thanks, Doctor. My objective was never to convince or persuade, but to point to a middle path, and acknowledge that the other side isn't as insane as we tend to think. I get that. To a degree, that's what I try to do too... I would never try to talk a fundamental Christain into accepting homosexual...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

Virtuous people don't need to be governed. People who try to hold themselves accountable to a higher moral standard don't need to be told what to do. They know how to act, and they are not afraid to say that either a) they made a mistake/did something wrong, or b) that you did something wrong. The ...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

VP, first and foremost let me say I am impressed with the measure of your argument here... so much so, that while you haven't changed my mind, I can only find one or two things to even respond to. You think your words well, sir. Where are all the arguments against common law marriage, or against ath...

Re: Humour

I'd say not just appropriate, but necessary for good philosophy. The only way to survive the depth of the crap-tank that is this world, finding the funny is necessary, and philosophers tend to dive deeply into that tank. Therefore, philosophers are in need of finding the funny more so than others.

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

Firstly, he is not against same-sex union. In fact, he believes that same-sex unions should be recognized by the law. That's what he said, yes. The quality of his arguments said otherwise, IMO. The reason being, is that marriage is a word that belongs to religions. Now, many of us here have profess...

Re: Gay Rights (Religion and Homosexuality)

So, after this post, I am done. Because after this post, I have nothing left to say, and nothing here has changed my mind, and in fact, I'm beginning to think that some of you are not taking what I have to say seriously. Okay, so you did bring something new to the table... a quitter's attitude. Wel...

Re: Political Alignment

I know it wasn't a hard stat, but I played along with it. Also, think about all the trades you can think of. I'll name 10 I can think of: Maintenance, Welding, Plumbing, Bricklaying, Construction, Roofing, Electrician, Mechanic, Carpenter, and manufacturer (of any product). Neither maintenance or m...

I also find this quite interesting. 6-10 are quite interesting and I find to be true (the rest you can ignore). Consider it. http://www.tfpstudentaction.org/politically-incorrect/homosexuality/10-reasons-why-homosexual-marriage-is-harmful-and-must-be-opposed.html *#10 is again, dealing with the vio...

Well, let's clear some more folklore away! The Skills Gap - 3 million jobs are open right now in America because people have forgotten skills commonly known in the 20th century, and are able to be grabbed by anyone who is willing to learn that trade. You can earn quite a bit of money if you know ho...

Re: Political Alignment

You know, I talked about people cutting themselves just to feel something as progress in society seems to have halted or be going down. I don't see you as far away from that, Doctor, thinking it'd be fun if things fell into lawlessness. You're bored, like a lot of people. And we're not too far away...
