Welcome to RPGateway, Ebisu! I'm glad that you found your way here, I think you'll find that it really has everything you're looking for.
Don't let anyone confuse you, T1 and T2 aren't really "types" of roleplay. They're two of many systems that hope to govern online text-fighting, which may or may not have anything to do with roleplaying at all. One the note of the types of roleplay you've mentioned, you're absolutely correct. Some people here refer to one-liners as "chat style", with the thought that chat is better suited for quick, one sentence responses. There are even those here, on the other extreme of things, above and beyond even multi-para style, who enjoy "essay" style. You may just want to call them insane.

Most of what you're familiar with can be called "freeform roleplay". There are no specific rules or expectations, and more particularly no dice rolling or concrete systems that govern characters and gameplay. It's my favorite way to play, personally. And if you're into other types of roleplay, we have that here too - but I'm glad to see that you're already familiar with the way it works.
The only things you really need to know are, first and foremost, how to interact with other people (and remember, it's teh INTERWEBS. Serious business.) You don't seem like you'll have any problem here, you've already made a great impression. Secondly, the difference between IC and OOC (In Character and Out Of Character, respectively). Again, I don't expect to see you having a problem with this, but you never know. Some people get way too into their characters... and take it a bit far. I'm sure you've seen people like this... >_<;
There'll be different sets of rules for every game, but if you keep those two things in mind, you're going to be just fine. You said if we have any questions about you, to just ask - well, likewise. If you ever need any help with anything here on RPGateway, we have a
list of great staff that are more than willing to help you out. Questions, comments, suggestions, just let us know.
What kind of games are you into? Fantasy, futuristic...? If you give me a general idea I might be able to find you a good game to get started in. Else, you're welcome to just browse around, and immerse yourself in our community. It might be a bit overwhelming at first, but don't let it get to you. We promise we don't bite... well, I speak for myself.
Again, welcome, and I hope you have a blast!
