Monster Hunter RP

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Zalorticus on Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:50 pm

This is not based off of the game, but you can take ideas from the game if you like.

This role play is the stories of Hunters that travel the world, searching for Monsters. The monsters range from as small as a cat, to as giant as a mountain. Hunters make a name for themselves, every kill they make. Many young men become Hunters, but they don't have the right equipment. To be a succesful Hunter, they need good weapons and better armor.
Here is a list of the most succesfull weapons:

The Great Sword- Reliable and powerful.
The Longsword- Many hunter's use this weapon.
The Shortsword- Easy to conceal.
Composite Longbow: Requires great strength to use.
Sling- Great for long distance attacks.
The Whip- Used to trip up smaller monsters.
Composite Shortbow- Used by the less muscular.
Throwing Axe- Balanced for throwing.
Greataxe- Easily chops threw tough hide.
Longspear- Great against charging monsters.
Quarterstaff- Favorite weapon of Travelers.
Light Crossbow- Draw back using lever.
Heavy Crossbow- Draw back by cranking winch.
Magic- Few Hunters have mastered this art. Requires Spellbook.

Armors:
Cloth
Leather
Chain Mail
Scale Mail
Full Plate

Experienced Hunters have been known to make weapons and armor from their kills. If you see this, remember this: They love telling stories.

There is a world where many monster roam the lands, across the worlds. Many of the monsters have become a nuisance to people in one way or another. This has made regular people become Monster Hunters. They travel around, searching for jobs and monsters. Yes, you can have your own house.

Will you be a hero, or will you be a legend?

Name: Arimund Jhareg
Sex: Male
Race: Human
Specialty: Bird-Like Creatures
Appearance: Arimund's face, when visible beneath his hooded woolen cloak, has rough features and a great deal of brown hair and beard, as though it were granite overgrown with lichen. A sturdy oak crossbow hangs upon his back, and a well-forged shortsword can be glimpsed pressed against his leather armor in the event of the need for a backup weapon. Eyes like indigo seashells carefully survey their environment, and rounded ears are always alert for any sound. Of average height, Arimund is nonetheless a powerful presence who radiates an almost animalistic chaos. He is, in many ways, similar to the beasts he hunts.
Image
Weapons: A heavy crossbow, designed to fire weighted arrows to inhibit movement (especially flight) and a backup shortsword used only in emergencies. Arimund has also been known to employ traps.
Misc. Items: Leather armor, warm woolen cloak, sturdy but supple silken rope.
Anything Else: The third son of a baron of the northeastern mountains, Arimund has a fair amount of financial clout and knows the right people to get almost any job done, for a price and provided it's not too risky.

Accepted. Let's get this thing started, shall we?
--------------------------------------------------------

Kalaran Thuzar awoke from his slumber. He had finished killing off a Thri-Kreen pack the day before. He stood up and looked to the wall opposite of him, seeing his newest weapon. It was a Gythka, the favored weapon of the human-like insects. He slipped on cloth briches and jerkin. He walked out into the desert sun, squinting as it burned into his eyes. He turned, waving to the merchants that stood at their posts, waiting for early customers. He walked over to the tavern, trying to find a new job. He walked up to a man in a brown cloak and patted him on the shoulder. "Dumon is doing good," he told the man. "This town hasn't seen an attack in a while." The man turned and smiled at Kalaran. "We have been long overdue....very long."

(Okay, I'm going to bed....have fun!)

Re: Monster Hunter RP

When Arimund had first arrived in the desert, he had eyed the place that piqued his interest and made careful mental notes that just might ensure his survival later on. Mys Vari was a four-hundred foot tall, roughly circular block of sandstone with a radius of about twelve miles. Constant battery by fierce winds and lightening strikes had ensured ample handholds for those who wished to reach the top, but only a few of them would hold more than the weight of a child. The rock would not support pitons, which might otherwise aid in climbing, and was abrasive enough to make one’s hands bleed fiercely.

Very few people would have dared climb that particular plateau, not just because of its general environmental hostility, but because of the legendary beast the dwelled atop it. The tale of this creature begins with an ancient legend. From the earliest days of the first desert nomad tribes tales had been told of the mighty Shosares, the Bird-Father, who created from the primal fury of the sky three children to safeguard all the mountains of the world. Whether Shosares truly existed is unknown, but his “children” certainly did.

These children went forth and multiplied, but the greatest heroes of the Humans battled them and destroyed almost all of them. Only the most ancient of the third generation, the supposed grandchildren of Shosares, remained alive to serve their creators. They went from place to place on unfathomable errands, harassing Human settlements and attacking caravans and herds. One of these creatures was Paeraesol, a mighty Elder Arrowhawk that laired atop Mys Vari.

Paeraesol had mostly been harassing the nomads, staying well away from more civilized towns, but it was a recent arrival and the nomads were beginning to leave or die off. Soon the creature would have no easy prey left, and then it would turn on the places it had so far shunned. It was important that Paeraesol never get that chance, and that in combination with the glory that would be brought by slaying the beast was why Arimund had come to this sleepy little town.

He sat in the tavern, hoping that he could single out some other hunters and recruit them for his quest. Much as he disliked it he was aware that he could not take down a third-generation descendant of Shosares alone, and the creature might have offspring. Better to share the glory than to be eaten, after all. He spied a few likely candidates, but he’d have to be sure. The journey to and up Mys Vari was perilous in the extreme, and that was nothing compared to what awaited at the top.

Dythan sat in a small tavern, in a small town. He was just passing through, looking for something better, or something bigger. He sat in a chair, with his back against a wall, so he could watch the others in the tavern. You could tell by looking around, who was a hunter and who wasn't. The common folk or travelers from other lands wore simple cloth, and the occasional knife strapped to the waist. He sat in his white armor, while his longsword lay near by. He watched a man enter wearing a brown cloak and returned his attention to his drink.

(The town that Kalaran is in is called Dumon, just so ye know.)

Kalaran sat next to his old friend, ordering a drink. "So what have you been up to Kultan," he asked the cloaked man. Kultan turned and took a sip of his drink. "I just got back from a long trip, and I have the mark to prove it." He lifted up his sleeve and revealed a tatoo in the shape of a gryphon. "It was made form the creatures blood." They both laughed and hit each other playfully. "So when does your next quest begin?" he asked Kalaran. The hunter nodded and pulled out a piece of paper. He looked at it with studious eyes. "I don't have another one planned until next week." He put the paper back and finished his drink. "You want to find one here maybe?" Kultan nodded and finished his drank, standing up to leave. "Tell me if you find anything." With that, he walked out of the tavern, leaving Kalaran with many ideas.

Despite general peace and stability in Dumon, at least for the moment, there seemed to be plenty of adventurers passing through. The desert had many perils, and peril holds a certain rapture for folk like Arimund. At least two of the others waiting in the town's tavern seemed as though they might be up to the task of hunting an Elder Arrowhawk, and the hunter knew that he would have to ask them quickly or they would be snapped up by others eager to seek lesser beasts. Leaving his chair at the back of the table he heads over to the bar, seating himself beside a leather-clad fellow he had been watching for some time.

"You don't look like you have enough to do, friend. Perhaps you'd like something difficult, dangerous, and potentially glorious to occupy your time? Unless you're afraid of that sort of thing, which I doubt. Interested?"

Milo walked into a desert settlement. He was hot, tired, and thirsty after traveling through the sands for two days. At his side was a small cage with some sort of white lizard with sandy skin and a long purple tongue. He had caught it in one of his traps the night before, and was headed into town to try and sell it. He walked along the dusty streets, but decided to take a quick rest before he tried to barter with someone. He wanted to have a well-rested mind so that he wouldn’t get short-changed. He went to the shade of a building and sat down by the wall as he watched people pass by.

Kalaran turned his head with slight suprise at the voice that came from his side. He looked at the man curiously, wondering what he could mean. He turned his body to face this new man and clapped quietly. "Of course," he said. "I also have a friend who could come." He pointed to the dorrway, indicating he just left. "The man in the cloak." He leaned against the chair, deciding to get to know the new man. "I am Kalaran," he said while putting his hand out. "My friend is Kultan. What type of beast will we be dealing with?" Whenever someone asks him to do a job, he always thinks it's a beats. That is how he makes a living after all. He took another sip of his drink and waited for the newcomer to reply. This could be a good challenge.

((If other interested people in the bar, like perhaps laadbaamr, want to overhear this conversation so I don't have to repeat it, I'd be much obliged.))

"I am called Arimund. The beast is known as Paeraesol, though the nomads know it as the Scourge of the Lightning Plateau. It is an Elder Arrowhawk, a powerful creature that lives on the wing all its life. Currently, it is content to slay nomads and travelers for its food, but soon this source of prey will migrate or die out. When that happens, Dumon will no longer be safe. The creature lairs atop Mys Vari, hovering as it rests. To slay it we must journey there through the desert, climb the weakened sandstone cliffs, and face the creature within its lair. I tell you this because I cannot slay the creature alone. What say you?"

Name:Isa Res

Race:Human
Specialty:Wryverns and Trap-mastery
Appearance:Image
Weapons:Greatsword and a whip
Misc. Items:A small pouch filled with potions, a carving knife, a compass, and a tightly rolled cloak for rain.
Anything Else:Isa is a very experienced hunter, who has spent his time focusing on wryverns who threaten towns and villages, though he has a great disdain for slaying them. He would prefer to reason with them, but he doesn't know their language, nor a spell to learn it, so he searches for a way to reason with the monsters that are around his country and live in peace with the peaceful of the beast, and maybe convince the violent ones otherwise.

Dythan put down his drink and was about to stand, when a young boy came up to him. The boy gave him a letter. It was from his home village way up north. They were being attacked by something big. He rose from his chair, and grabbing his sword, left the bar. He whistled and the galloping of hooves was soon heard. Shyharou soon came around the corner. He mounted the horse and rode off to the north. His family, his friends, his people, were being attacked and he wasn't gonna let that happen.

Kalaran nodded. "We will go, but we need to get ready." He finished his drink and set the mug down on the table. "If you like, you can come with us and get the armor and weapons required for the job. We have enough armor to make our own militia." He laughed and stood up, readying himself to go. "Our place is just acroos the street." He nodded again and walked out of the tavern and across the street.

Isa stumbled around blindly with blood and sand searing his eyes and open wounds. He threw his slotted greatsword over his chest to lean against as he weakly fell through the first open door he could find. Isa could smell liquor and smoke,so he knew he was in a tavern.

"Help," he muttered through blood and dirt clogging his throat and collapsed on the hardwood floor. Isa struggled to keep himself awake, but felt himself slipping in and out of consciousness. He spat up his own blood onto the floor and tried to roll over onto his back, but only got as far as his side. Isa looked up,but could only see blurs.

Arimund was about to respond when the man stumbled through the door, filthy and half-dead. Running forward he narrowly missed the man as he collapsed, coughing up blood. Rolling him onto his back Arimund checked the wounds, pulling a small bundle from his cloak. He was no healer, but he'd been injured enough times to know what to do when it happened to someone else. Pulling an ale from the bar he dipped his bandages in it, cleaning them, and deftly dressed what injuries he could see. The alcohol would burn, but it would help halt infection as well. He offered the man the rest of the ale, placing the tankard beside him.

"Easy, now. What tempest did you run into?"
