MUD Questions and Suggestions

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Zhelir Darkfall on Thu Aug 24, 2006 10:52 pm

There is a strong possibility that GWing may soon house its very own MUD.

If you're familiar with MUD/MUSH/MUX/Etc. than you needn't bother reading these next 3 paragraphs.

First, MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon. It's, in short, a text-based MMORPG. Think of chat-based RolePlaying, but with a bit of structure to it -- items, spacecraft, skills, even the world itself.

You use commands to get around the world, which vary with code type and method of travel. More than that, you use commands for just about everything, from fighting to communication.

This probably sounds relatively complicated or overly controlled to some of you -- I assure you, it's not nearly so bad as it sounds. It's a hell of a lot of fun once you get used to it.

Anyhow, the intent of this topic is to allow users to ask questions and request things in it -- types of areas, items, yadda yadda. If you'd like to see it, we'll try to see to it that it happens, so long as it fits into the theme of the MUD -- which is another thing we want requests on. As well, when we know for sure what's going on, this topic will be updated with a bit more detail.

STAVE: Commala-come-ki,
There's a time to live and one to die.
With your back against the final wall
Ya gotta let the bullets fly.

RESPONSE: Commala-come-ki!
Let the bullets fly!
Don't 'ee mourn for me, my lads
When it comes my day to die.

Would be awesome to have the Demon forms of our three characters in there.

Not to mention Gambit's bar? ;)

But, yeah, that would definately be enjoyable. The only hook with that we'd probably have to use said characters as Immortals, the common term for moderators in a MUD. Thus, they're only used for RP, and not for personal gain, as they'd be just too damn good at it.

We need cash to put up a dedicated server.

It's $39.98/mo for the lowest level that would meet our needs. It's not far away, and it just needs a bit of support to make sure we can pay our bills.

Contact me if you're interested in setting stuff up.

SWFotE.

Star Wars: Fall of the Empire. Rest assured, unless Star Wars is overwhelmingly desired, this will not be the theme of the MUD, merely the codebase.
