Liesha entered the room warily. In her career, she had wrestled trolls, gone toe-to-toe with some of the nastiest vampires in Chicago, been shot, stabbed, kicked and punched -- and still, despite this track record, the witch looked on in horror as though the blue-eyed toddler were the most intimidating thing she had ever seen.
"Good grief. We are not doing this. Call Children's Services."
"Already did," Carter replied. He jogged his knee, and Sam squealed with joy. "ACS can't come get him 'till five-thirty this afternoon. He's in the custody of the state for now."
"Put him in a holding cell. He's a menace."
"He's three."
"I don't care how old he is. When he cries, he spawns bloodthirsty reptiles. Put him in a holding cell."
Sam's little fists found Carter's SCD badge. The boy felt its ridges curiously, an absolutely picturesque expression on his face. Carter watched him fondly. "You know what, Liesha? Come to think of it, you're probably the only one in this office qualified to deal with baby magic."
