Non-Playable Characters

This thread will contain various NPC's vital to the story. Everyone is welcome to add their own characters. We encourage you to add only NPC's that reoccur in the storyline or those that are important to your characters. Unless otherwise stated, NPC's should only be manoeuvred by their creators and those granted permission to use them.

Note that characters of great influence, such as King Nikolai Lantsov, Queen Zoya Nazyalensky and General Kir Egorov should only be controlled by the co-GM's. This is to maintain the multitude of secret plots we have in store for you. If your characters are interacting with NPC's not created by you, you are of course welcome to either co-write or write and run through what you have with their creators so as to speed up your interactions.

Kir Egorov was born in a village that no longer exists. Novo-Kribirsk was the last city the Shadow Fold devoured before its demise. Kir thought he might have heard the screams of his family in the Unsea, but still he drove a sword through their grotesque bellies and let their black blood run between his fingers. He was one of the first non-Grisha who stood against the wrath of the Darkling, joining Alina Starkov, the Sun Summoner, in her quest to end his reign of terror. When the darkness fell in that final battle, he saw the light that triumphed. It illuminated the fallen bodies of his comrades - non-Grisha caught in a squaller's tornado and tossed like broken dolls, boys barely into adulthood buried beneath the rubble of a fabrikator's explosive and unrecognisable girls scorched by an inferni's loose ember.

Again and again he heard himself recite his apologies to the families of the fallen, they died for a good cause, he said. They died so we could be safe. Yet, they did not have to die at all. The Darkling was a Grisha and despite this the late king kept him as his favoured pet, as if the immortal beast wearing human flesh might be tamed with treats and occasional walks in the garden. Though the Sun Summoner was a Grisha himself and defeated him, she did not emerge until the shadow fold had had its fill of lives for centuries. He saw only the ruin the Grisha would bring and sought justice for those at their mercy.

King Nikolai was in many ways worse than his predecessor. He was, in Kir's eyes, an idealistic fool who chose equality over the safety of the greater majority. Kir had little faith in the Lantsov family, who had for centuries driven the country to ruin with greed, and the same self-absorption had allowed the Darkling to remain unseen for what he was. Initially, Kir had tried for reason and peace, suggesting at first that the Grisha be strictly monitored and kept in the palace walls, where their power might at least be contained. When that failed to work, he turned to violence.

For centuries, Shu Han had had its eyes on Ravka, and Fjerda had looked on with disdain at the relative freedom the Grisha were allowed. Kir met with their leaders in secret, planning the inevitable demise of Ravka and its royal family. Anti-Grisha sentiments had dwindled over the years but Kir Egorov and his allies would make them rise once more. He swore if the Grisha could not be contained, there would be no Grisha at all. He would rid the world of them at whatever the cost.
