Several times now there have been advertisements for inixpicit taste. I and most of Roleplay Gateway would appreciate it greatly if you would not advertise items of horrendous taste.

Thank you from

For the record, Roleplay Gateway does not promote any of these advertisements or pornography. We actively try to maintain the forums and catch these "spam" messages before they fall upon the eyes of other unfortunate individuals. However, it is difficult to manage these forums 24/7 and sometimes one may slip by for an hour and go unnoticed while the staff sleeps (yes we're human). If you notice any of these "spam" posts, please notify a staff member immediately or make use of the "Report" button found at the top right corner of each post.

And if you're taking record, you also might want to note that the vast majority of these posts are done by bots. The problem has been dramatically reduced compliments of Sinful, Hilde, Skuld and Master, banning domain names (as banning just the username does very little) around the clock. There was a brief period when you couldn't turn your head without a new one being posted.

Alright, here we go.

Nightmare: Thank-you for your support. You are quite correct in recognizing the fact that we do not promote these sorts of advertisements, and their subject matter. Though, Zhelir is quite correct when he says that the vast majority of these users are bots. Commonly referred to as "spam bots" they are sent around the net to register accounts and then advertise.

Many times it is somewhat difficult to distinguish the difference between these bots and real people, but there are a number of factors that are taken into account.

Keep in mind we have to delete the user, delete the post, log and ban the IP address, log and delete the @____.com/net/org/etc. It takes a bit of time to get all of these things marked down and completed. Plus, as Sin and Zhelir have said, though we are trying, the concept of an "all seeing eye" is impossible. We do our best, but sometimes, unfortunately, it's just not quite good enough.

And as Sinful said, use the "Report" button. That's what we have it for. The sooner you guys let us know, the sooner everything gets resolved and we are able to resume our games and conversations.

That being said, again, thank-you for your support.
We appreciate your contribution, and will do our best to keep up our end of this bargain.

Thanks for that clarification guys.

As a Mod, I am now just wondering where our duties lay in this endeavour to stop these spam-bots... I have occasionally just deleted the offending posts, ensuring the content is not seen.

However, after reading the process you guys in the Admin team take to stop them, should I merely just delete the posts, as I have been doing, or do I delete and then let one of you guys know the Username of the offending bot, or should I simply just report the post?

If this could be clarified, I feel that would be a great help for both myself, and other Mods, who may also be unsure, as I am.

One more thing, in case no-one knows, as I didn't ((-=Is full of shame=-)), the Report button is the red exlamation mark next tothe Quote button. I actually didn't know this, not without extensive looking. Well, it doesn't help with me being a Brit, I guess. :P

And I also convey my thanks to those taking this matter seriously, both members of staff and otherwise. It really is dire that we must do these things, but that is the internet for you.

Thanks again for the clarification.

Saladin: Here we go to the best of my ability:

Thank-you for taking the initiative, and getting this material out of the path of our users. It is much appreciated. Though in reality, your best bet is going to be to report said post to an Admin so we can do all of the banning and avoid having the same bots register and re-register time and time again.

You might also consider editing the content and title of the post, with a Mod disclaimer with something to the effect of:

MODERATOR EDIT: The content of this post has been removed for censorship reasonings. It has been reported and will be deleted in the very near future. Thank-you, The Mods.

And then lock the thread. That way we will get the chance to see, ban, and delete all of the information that we need to post to get. Such as user name, and IP address.

Or you could try to find one of the Admins in Chat, via instant messenger, or e-mail to make sure that the problem is taken care of as quickly as possible. You would not be the first to drop me a line saying, "Zomg, Skuld, take care of this!!11" etc. (I am Skuld, btw, for those of you that don't know.)

That would be my advice, and if you any other questions/comments/concerns/suggestions, I/we would be happy to hear them and accommodate as well as we are able.

: )

Unfortunatly... people like to do this too. Get on and promote their own stuff.. It takes away from the community when this happens.. But, there is no real way to block this, except for making it harder to register new users...
