Elizabeth continued bellowing out things to continue to get her men into gear, but left the major issuing of orders to James. As the Portugese ship neared and the boarding crew assembled, Elizabeths scowl was replaced by a slight snarl and fury. As James jumped ship and began fighting the Portugese crew, Elizabeth followed suit, and was soon encased in a living mass of fighting. Her cutlass and postol drawn, Elizabeth's eye returned to the Fledgling and her crew with every chance she had to look away - which was few. Parying a thrust made at her, Elizabeth struck forward, feeling the blade sink into a chest, and she kicked the cut-throat she had just killed into three others lads who were attempting to attack James. Now Elizabeth didn't even bother aiming, instead she lifted her pistol in the direction of a clump of Portugese and fired, hitting one, then another as she fied gain before she returned to fighting with her cutlass.

Amid the maylay Caesar noticed a large figure suddenly appear behind him, turning with a yell he was confronted with the mass of Raff. For a moment he thought Raff was here to kill him, but soon noticed the porteguese man laying, his skull split, on the groud beside him. "Thank ye mate", Caesar said saluting Raff with his saber, he then turned and continued the battle. He could see though his group of men were being slowly pushed back to the vessel.

Raff grinned and pushed into the Portuguese on Caesar's right. His axe smashed into cutlass blade, pike, musket and flesh. When ever the axe blade caught a weapon, Raff would wrench it up and plunge his dirk into the chest or gut of the man in front of him. Blood pattered over the white sand like a red rain and screams fill the air like the cries of gulls.

Rand slashed and parried rapidly, finally he could show his true colors in combat. Two portugese came at him, he get into sword locks with both and kicked one in the knee, sending them to the floor on one knee, then finishing him with a strike across the throat with a rapiar, then shoved his cutlass through the gut of the second man. after that, he shealthed his swords and drew duel pistols, shooting off the shots and two attackers, killing one and then finishing the other by throwing a kunai through his throat. Rand continued combating, slashing and striking, always looking for a new target.

Esath came out of his quarters after having hidden his little bit of treasure. He came out musket loaded and looked around and saw that there where a few attackers that had boarded the ship, only two from what he saw most where busy fighting there own battle on board the other ship. Esath fired on one of the boarders and hit him square in the chest, the other one looked and raised a pistol in Esath's direction. Esath drew his cutlass and thought about his options. in the blink of an eye Esath's life flashed before his eyes and the pistol fired and he felt pain in his leg the hot lead burned his flesh and burned it's way through his calf. he dropped to one knee and dropped his cutlass. the boarder move a few steps closer and drew a rapier.
Up from the sea, from underground
Down from the sky, they're all around
They will return: mankind will learn
New kinds of fear when they are here

~~ the Carol of the old ones
They will reclaim all in their name;
Hopes turn to black when they come back and
Madness will reign, terror and pain
Woes without end where they extend.

Rand heard a gunshot, turned to see another crewman get shot in the calf, and charged, lunging through the air and tackling the attacking boarder. He grappled with the man for a second before he drove a knife into the mans throat, stood up and wiped his brow of sweat. He picked up the mans rapiar and went back into the fray. Fighting was his life.

Twigs, dropping her sack of treasure, pulled out her daggers and twirled into the melee. Her concentration was on a man a few feet away from her. Her daggers sang as she moved along the deck, dodging and attacking. Sweat beaded along her brow as she swept out to her left and sank her dagger into the chest of the man she had been watching during the fight. "Argh!" she screamed as something pierced her shoulder. Twigs wouldn't allow the pain tear her away from the battle, but used the adrenaline that it gave her to fight her way to Caesar's side, where she fought easily.

Markus stood at the bow, up by the wheel, fighting off all comers, laughing and swearing with glee. Up the steps came two pirates death in there eyes, Markus was quick forcing his sword into the gut of one pirate two knifes were into his hand, and were flying hitting one in the chest were his heart would be, and the other square between the eyes, he then pulled his scimitar free and went on the attack forcing another two back, towards the rail, then with swift side step, he pushed one over the edge into the waters below and the cut the head from the second.

He then turned as a fist from another pirate came connecting with his head, then time moved in slow motion from his mouth flew a gold blur, Markus tried to catch it but it went over the edge towards the water, with a splash it sunk, out of view, Markus turned hitting the man square in the face again and again he swung his fist until the man collapsed his face beaten out of recognition.

Then pain sprung from behind Markus as a blade split his side, Markus spun the blade spanning still impaled in his side , he forced his scimitar again and again into the attackers chest, the more pain as another blow cut down across his chest and a spear struck him in the leg, causing him to buckle and hold onto the rail, he swung his blade with what strength he had, cutting another down, the man with the spear struck again piercing his shoulder, dropping his scimitar to the deck he grabbed hold of the retreating spear pulling it towards him he with drew a skinning knife.

As the spear flew past him he grabbed the man and slit his throat to the spinal cord. Pushing the body away he threw the knife clearly a true hitting another in the chest as they climbed the steps sending them back again tumbling down the steps. Then Markus collapsed to the deck his back up against the railings, he drew another and another, each one maiming or killing its target.

Markus reached down to find that he had no knifes left and before him five pirates advanced towards him. forcing himself to his feet, he gave his tongueless grin.

"Come and get some" He thought, he had lost his tongue and he wasn't very happy, the pain streaked through his body, blood poured from the many wounds that crossed his body. He then pushed off from the railing straight towards the two, forcing his scimitar into ones chest he then felt like screaming a blade cut into his leg, scrapping the bone, the scream that he wanted to let out got caught in his throat as he staggered trying to keep his balance, then another blade broke skin into his chest, more pain shot through his body, as he staggered backwards he lifted his hand from the wound blood caked across it.

He then moved forward blade swinging, hitting one in the temple killing him he then swung his blade again cutting into another chest, felling him to, he then forced him self onto the other, fighting through the pain from his leg and body, he forced the man against the wheel forcing his blade through his chest sticking it in the wood behind.

Markus then staggered back putting his hand to his leg wound he felt bone and he looked down his bone showed through the skin the muscles and flesh ripped to shreds, only his sure will and determination had kept him standing, he then felt it flow away, and fell to his knees, all around him lay the dead and dieing of the pirates that attacked him. He then felt his body go cold, and he fell forward the sounds of battle ringing in his ears. As the battle raged around the ship a internal battle was going on within Markus, one of survival.

Raff was hacking away with his axe, bodies pilling up around the large Irishman. The shore bound Portuguese started to thin and break, the crew of the Fledgling were beating them back into the water. Screams of death, hate, pain and victory filled the air.

Raff looked around, standing back from the battle a little. He spotted a pair of Portuguese that had stuck up behind Caesar and Twigs, ready to strike at their backs. Raff first hurled his dirk at the man behind Twigs. The sharp blade sank into the man's backbone and he collapsed screaming. As his dirk was flying through the air, Raff charged at the man behind Caesar, axe held high. The Portuguese barely had time to turn to face him when Raff's axe smashed into his skull. Blood and brain matter went every where, on the back of Caesar's head and Raff face.

"Finish this lot up" said Raff, "I'm going back on deck." With that Raff, yanked his axe from the man's skull and his dirk from the other man's backbone and headed up the gangplank. Once on deck, he grabbed a canister bag of powder and two grapeshot bags. He worked his way over to the six pound gun and loaded the powder and shot. He then punched a hole in the powder bag and poured a little powder down the touch hole.

Raff lined the cannon up with a thick mass of Portuguese sailors. "I have you lot" laughed Raff, grabbing the burning slow match.

James stood in a pool of slick blood and fallen pirates. The crew of Habbo's schooner had been decimated by the first salvo of the Fledgling. For all that the crew of the Fledgling barely contained the boarders, and only because the Portuguese had turned to face James and Elizabeth, fearing a boarding party themselves.

Looking at the carnage, James snarled as the large blocky shape of Habbo appeared before him. The wicked cutlass in his hand spoke volumes. Habbo lunged forward, the cutlass thrusting towards James chest. Hopping backward James barely turned, the edge of the cutlass sliced into the coat, through the shirt and cut the flesh of his chest.

The fact that his foot was already damaged slowed James considerably. Habbo noticed that James was not as agile nor as deft as he normally should be. Realizing this he pressed his advantage, lunging forward again. Gritting his teeth James tried to pass guard with the larger man again, however he was unable to push off as well as wanted to. Stumbling past Habbo, James knew he was in trouble.

Habbo snarled and threw an elbow which connected evilly with James jaw, sending him sprawling across the deck, his cutlass flew from his hand, clattering before him and into the railings. Habbo leaped towards the fallen man, "Lucky James? Yer days are over me boyo, today ye die!" Habbo screamed as he brought the cutlass down towards James back.

Rand was running past when he stepped in a pool of blood and lost his footing. He slid a short distance before he realized he was flying straight towards Habbo! He tried to stop himself from colliding with the man, but realized that it would be iminate if the other captain didn't move.

Raff watch James get knocked to the deck and gritted his teeth. He didn't dare use the six pounder that close to James and none of his pistols were loaded. Raff looked around and grabbed a belaying pin. With a Gaelic roar, Raff hurled the belaying pin at Habbo's face. He watched with a savage grin, pointing the cannon at a bunch of moving Portuguese sailors with out looking at them. He touched the slow match to the touch hole and the six pounder roared.

Richelle was doing rather well, seeing as she had no true battle training, and was far small and less powerful than virtually every other pirate on either ship. She ducked a sword swipe, rising back up and crashing her pipe into the attacker's nose. There was a brief fountain of blood, but this was quickly dropped back out of her sight as she smacked the pipe into the sailor's head once more. This sent him crumpling to the Fledgling's deck, and Richelle twisted to face the next attacker. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw the most shocking thing since she had seen since she had first stepped on board the Fledgling. There was Raff...with an axe...saving Caesar's life. She couldn't help but grin at the insanity of it all.

But her amusement was short lived. She went right on struggling and smashing and bashing the Portuguese that came her way, but she was stopped by something unexpected. She spied one of the Fledgling's crew being menaced by a particularly well sized enemy, and rushed over to assist. She grunted slightly as she hefted the pipe in both hands, reared back, and...she was suddenly stopped before she could even swing. She felt someone grasp hold of the pipe from behind her, and was jerked off of her feet and back in the direction she had come. She felt something cold and sharp press against her cheek as a meaty hand wrapped around her throat. She attempted to cry out as she was yanked back and forced to meet the eyes of the rather large brute, but her wind pipe was restricted and refused to make a sound. She attempted to kick out, to strike in some way...but before she could even make a valid effort to fight back, she found herself shoved over the railing and flying through the air.

The world became an odd assembly of blue, white, gold and silver as she spun for a few long seconds. The last thing she saw of the dry world was James, squaring off against the snaggly toothed captain of the enemy ship. Then, she splashed into the lake amidst the few bodies that were floating their, still. The sound went unnoticed amidst the clash of steel and the pop of gunpowder, and after the ripples faded, the only visible sign that Richelle had ever been there were the smacked up heads of a few of the Portuguese sailors.

Constances pistols somehow found a way into her hands, despite the slick blood she had them. A few men from the other ship had fled to the lower decks, and ran straight into the surgeons quarters. Her pistol went off as it went wide, missing her target by mere inches, the second one collided into the mans chest, in which he fell over as his fellows charged, a pistol went off and Constance felt pain in her theigh as she quickly grabbed two more of her pistols dropping the other ones to the floor. The other pistols in the belt fired, and anouther man went down.

Constance backed up as the two remaining men ran, her hands fumbling on a cutlass one of the wounded had in here, she drew it, however her hands will shaking. Not with fear, but rather with a form of blind hatred as she moved infront of her paients, swinging the heavy blade threatenly.

One of the men laughed and swing his blade hard, knocking the sword from Constance's slick hands. Lunging forward, he stabbed the surgeon through the shoulder, kicking her brutally in the ribs as he did.

Constance felt the kick and even screamed as the blade passed into her, and grabbing one of her small knives from the table, she stabbed blindly at the man, stabbing him in the chest. The man muttered a curse, then slid to the floor.

Constance quickly picked up the mans blade as the other man charged her. She felt the blade tear through her cheek as she thrust the sword blindly forward, impaling the man... carefully, she moved, and feeling pain she went and wrapped her wounds... Then made her way to the table... the man had died in the struggle.. a stray pistol shot had finished him....

Lady Luck, was definately a woman of irony.

Esath saw rand kill the man attacking him and made a note to thank him later or at least repay the favor somehow. he stayed down for a sec before forcing himself to tie a piece of his pants tightly around the wound stopping the blood loss as best he could at the moment. he stood on shaky legs and reloaded his musket he took aim and fired, one more Portuguese sailer went down. he found his footing and ran to the edge of the ship he stood on the railing and fought off the pain that shot up his leg. he jumped and landed with a hard thump on the Portuguese deck. he looked up from the deck and howled in pain but no sound came out, with this stroke of luck he got up and fought his way to the deck ladders and then climbed down to the deck below, there where only a couple sailers here and they had there cutlass's drawn, Esath drew his blade and prepared for a fight. he had a plan to end this battle and sink the Portuguese ship but he had to get to the powder room first

Caesar watched as once again Raff saved his life. He shook his head at the oddity of the whole thing. It was then he noticed the lithe form of Lillian next to him. "Oh me dove! Nice of you to join the party!", Caesar said gaily smiling and giving her a wink. The rampage of Raff had turned the tides of the on shore skirmish, rallying his men Caesar began to push the porteguese back towards their boats.

Markus slowly came to, all around him he could hear the sounds of battle, of shouting and swearing. Markus pulled himself up and looked down at his injured leg, it was limp and the color had drained from it.

"Its no good" Markus thought "It will have to go"

Markus looked about and seeing what he needed pulled the nearest sword towards him then taking it in one hand , he swung down cutting his leg off just below the knee, blood began to pour from the wound. Pulling a packet of gunpowder of one of the dead pirates, he poured it over the leg and lit it, within seconds the wound had sealed, in a blaze of smoke.

After a few minutes of recovery Markus pulled him self up a cutlass in hand, grabbing a musket he used it as a crutch, he moved to the stairs and looked down all around him pirates were locked in death struggles, the deck was covered in blood and body's of dead and dyeing pirates, this is what it had come down to, the normal human psyche for blood shed and death. And by god did Markus enjoy that being able to show that he was not afraid.

With a few awkward steps he found him self on the main deck, Portuguese pirates attacked from both sides, but even in his weakened state Markus fought them off, his blood stained clothes and body, ached with pain as he moved across the deck, cutting down pirates as he went, he might of been the most disabled person on that ship but bygone he was giving a good fight.

Pain, piercing, horrible pain. Elizabeth gasped for breath as the pain shot through her young body, and adrenaline fuelled her blood. Groaning as the blood pulsed from her should and thigh, Elizabeth launched herself forward at one last cut-throat. Her cutlass went through his cheek, out the other side of his head, and Elizabeth resisted the urge to retch. Stumbling forward, she glanced over to the Fledgling in time to see Richelle thrown into the water. A gurgled scream erupted in her throat as she watched her friend fall, unsure whether she was dead or alive. Filled with new energy, Elizabeth lunged forward at the lads approaching James and their captain, in an attempt to still those that got in their captains way.

The sliding Rand rammed into the back of Habbo’ legs, knocking the hulking pirate captain to the deck. As he fell, Habbo saw a belaying pin sail past his head and crash soundly into the mast.

Cursing, Habbo scrambled to his feet, but he was a second to late. The tumble had given James the opportunity to pull himself to his feet. His legs wobbly, James eyes the sneering pirate captain. The wicked blade in gleamed in the setting sunlight. Licking his lips James sneered, 'Well lad lets see if you can best the luck O' Jimmy."

Spitting, "Gladly!" the pirate captain shouted. Habbo stepped forward and slashed the cutlass down and across James’ body. The torque of the blow twisted the pirate’s body exposing his chin over the lowered right shoulder.

James turned his body to the right, launching his left fist in a roundhouse punch which connected with the exposed jaw of Habbo. The punch and the slash happened almost simultaneously, the sharp edge sliced into the coat and shirt of James, leaving a wicked line across his abdomen, which slowly blossomed in bright crimson.

The impact of James’ fist as it connected with the bristly jaw caused Habbo to spin around, his eyes rolling up in his head and blood and spittle spraying out of his mouth. Habbo stood on the tips of his boots then crashed to the deck like a heavy sack of potatoes.

James stood over the crumpled body of Habbo. Reaching down he retrieved the cutlass and shouted, "Argh-Har ye bastards! Drop yer weapons or be fed to the watery depths of Davy Jones' locker! Me messmates will drown ye all in a puddle if ye disobey."

James pointed the cutlass to the few remaining Portuguese pirates that surrounded him. Snarling James hobbled to some line and cut a hefty length. Pointing the bloody weapon to a short, squat and very ugly man. "Ye mealy-mouthed dog, tie yer Captain with this line or I'll have ye dance the gallowsy dance, yer ship has been surrendered to the Fledgling!"

Waving towards Elizabeth and Raff, James called, "Raff take a crew and get this to the center of the lake then scuttle it. Captain shall we leave these poor misguided lubbers ta their fates when we leave on the morrow?"

The acrid smell of gunpowder mingled withe metallic smell of blood. Licking his lips, James felt a sudden weakness, forcing him to lean back against the railing. Exhaling, he closed his eyes, licking his lips, James climbed upon the rail and hopped to the Fledgling, his world swimming as the wounds to his abdomen and chest started to burn. As he lighted upon the reddened deck he looked around for Richelle, "Me Lovely? Poppet?"
James looked around as the Portuguese sailors were herded onto the Fledgling, the crew held them under arms and began shackling them together.

"Richelle?" James called again, the concern evident in his voice, "Richelle?" Turning to the crew, "Has anyone see the first mate?" He asked rapidly.

With a final flick of his blade Caesar decomisioned the last Porteguese Pirate on the beach. As he wiped his blade off he saw that the battle was ending. He made his way towards where James and others of the Fledling crew stood just as James was giving Raff and order. "I'll help you Raff", Caesar said sheathing his blade.
