You’ve heard stories, read the comics. Mutants: either through genetic mutation, radiation, what have you. There are those who are good, and those who are bad. But the good always win. It may take them awhile, sure, but they always win in the end, right?

Wrong.

A decade ago, mutants came out of hiding. But it wasn’t to extend an olive branch. In less than a year, all the major cities in the world were virtually destroyed. Now, humans are scattered across the globe. Mutants rule: most kill humans on sight. Humans retaliate against mutants when they can, even those who want nothing but peace. There are a few settlements, but most of those who remain keep on the move. It tends to be safer that way.

A group of mutants have banded together and try and keep each other safe. Hunted by humans and their own kind, it’s a struggle to stay alive.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where food, water, and shelter are scarce. There are those with powers and those without, hunting each other. Powers shouldn't be all-powerful. Abilities like telepathy and premonitions can make roleplaying against others complicated, so they should be avoided.

Name
Kalarel Greyson

Nickname
Kal

Age
24

Sex
Male

Power
In short: molecular manipulation. This includes molecular immobilization, molecular acceleration, and molecular combustion. Kalarel can affect the speed of matter. He can slow molecules down to enough to ‘freeze’ the object or person in place. If used on a liquid or gas, it may turn into a solid. He can ‘unfreeze’ the object when he wishes or until he leaves the vicinity. On the other hand, he can make objects move faster, and some substances may turn into a liquid or gas. If he focuses his power to ‘all hit at once’, the object may accelerate to the point of combustion. He can specify a certain object or an area of effect.

Side Effects/Drawbacks to power Kalarel gets nauseated when he uses his power, sometimes to the point of becoming sick to his stomach, but he is usually able to hold it in until he and those he works with are out of danger. The longer he holds it off, the worse it is.

Appearance
Kalarel has red hair more on the darker side that he cuts every once in a while so it doesn’t get to long. His brown-yellow eyes belong to a dreamer, set under thin eyebrows and over a slightly pointed nose. His chin is pointed, under a full lower lip and a thin upper one. Kalarel is thin and almost fragile looking and his pale skin is more likely to burn than to tan.

Personality
Kalarel lacks an education, to say the least. He was fourteen when the mutants started attacking, and that effectively ended his schooling, having not even finished his freshman year of high school. He had always enjoyed reading and tinkering with things, so he didn’t mind holing himself in the few intact libraries he could find, trying to figure out survival skills. He has long ago forgotten all but basic math and the only science he knows it: disinfect a wound with water then alcohol, stitch it up, don’t rub dirt in it, and if an object goes up, it must come down.

Growing up as a child made him trusting and kind, but the cruelties of what the world has become quickly buried those traits.

He interacted with few people and had faith in even fewer. Now with the Strays, Kalarel is beginning to laugh again. He doesn’t have a need to hide himself at night while sleeping or constantly watch his back. Though he doesn’t trust them all, as a group they’ve become his family. He’s made a use of himself by working hard, even if his work isn’t as productive as some of the others. He feels an almost constant need to prove himself and some poke fun at him for his serious attitude.

History/Bio
Kalarel grew up knowing he was adopted, though he can’t remember the actual event. His parents leaned toward the elderly side, and though they never said why, Kalarel assumed they adopted him because they were lonely. There were a few pictures around the house of people that Kalarel had never met, but his parents never received letters wishing Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday. Whatever the case may be, Kal’s parents never made him feel like he was adopted. He always felt loved and though they were stricter than the parents of some of the kids in his school, Kal knew that, in the end, it was for his own good. Not that he ever remembered that when they restricted his bed time or sweets.

When he was nine, Kalarel was riding home from school on the bus. The driver lost control in the rain and the bus skidded before it started to flip over. Like the others, Kalarel closed his eyes and screamed. The sound around him cut out and he peeked open his eyes to see everything around his frozen: the children, the bus, the backpacks flying through the air. And then it started moving again. The children were taken to the hospital for care and it didn’t happen again.

Until a decade ago, when the mutants came out of hiding. Kalarel was fourteen. He watched the news with his parents, thinking it nothing but an elaborate hoax. That is, until the destruction actually started. Though they lived in the suburbs, in a quite town, it didn’t take long for the people to panic. His mother died of a heart attack, and with so much going on the ambulance didn’t get to her in time. His father lasted longer, with Kalarel’s help. But, by the time half a year had gone by, Kal couldn’t get a hold of more medicine and he was finding it more and more difficult to care for both of them. They still managed to live in their old house – people generally left them alone. One day Kalarel woke up, just to find his father gone.

He stayed for a day, hoping his father would come back. When the next morning came he packed his bag full of clothes, water bottles, and the last of the cereal and snack bars and set out.

On the move ever since, Kalarel doesn’t stay in one place for long. He survived by avoiding people and using his powers to protect himself when he couldn’t. At first he thought himself human, but encounters with others quickly led him to realize that he was, in fact, a mutant.

It was just recently, in the past month, that he found the Strays, as they called themselves. A group of mutants, with a few humans thrown in, who stick together and take care of each other. It took some convincing, but Kal eventually decided to stay with them.

Name
Jasmine Brianna Valderez

Nickname
Jay, Shortstack

Age
22

Sex
Female

Power
Telekenesis. The ability to control things with one's mind. Jasmine is not fully developed in her power, and cannot control much more than something the size of her fist. She cannot affect people as wholes, but she can do things with specific areas of their bodies. Her power is really limited, for now.

Side Effects/Drawbacks to power
Jasmine gets severe migraines when she controls too much, the bigger the object, the worse the pain. She also has the tendency to try too much at once, which causes a strain on her brain, thus causing a variety of things- Such as nosebleeds.

Appearance
Jasmine is a small but imposing figure, she makes up for her lack of height with her attitude. She stands at five feet and four inches. She has long dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and brown skin. She's your average latina, little more to love in some places, but she tries to keep fit with her unusual hobby of parkour. She has freckles across one of her ears, and a scar above her right eyebrow.

Personality
Jasmine is sassy. She likes being the tough girl, and doesn't let anyone get in the way of her doing things her way. She doesn't need friends, she doesn't really want any either, but she's le ther guard down enough for the Strays.

She feels small, not only in stature, but in comparison to all the things everyone else can do. She knows she could've been just a human, but she thinks that's better than having such a lame power.

She uses her natural skills more than she does her mutated abilities. She loves moving, and parkour lets her get from one place to another without very much effort.

History/Bio

Jasmine wasn't always a street rat, as she considers herself now. She grew up with a lawyer for a father, and a reformed meth-addict for a mom. They had a big house, nice town, never got into any trouble. Jasmine was happy, with her fairytale story. But then tragedy came along, and her father died in a car accident.

Her mother got the money, and she took this time to get back into her routine of drugs. She stayed a little up-class, holding little parties for all her houswife friends that needed a score. Jasmine would go to school, and then hang out in the parking lot with her 'crew'. Older kids, smoking pot, and getting piercings. She figured being the bad chick would get some attention, and that's all she wanted then.

After dropping out of her first year of high school, Jasmine got a job at an auto-shop. She painted cars for a few hundred every month. Her boss' son had the hots for her, and she often heard him making snide remarks about her when her back was turned. One time they were actually alone, and he forced himself on her. She felt trapped, nowhere to go, and she was just wishing that the wrench on the table above them would fall and distract him long enough for her to run. And it did.

She thought it was dumb luck at first, but it kept happening. When she was practicing parkour, rocks would move slightly just to the point where she could use them as stepping stones. She got used to it, thought she was special. Then, when she turned 13, she realized she wasn't the only one.

Now she roams with the Strays, more often than not. She likes being alone, and tends to stray away from them to go roam on her own. She always comes back.
