Shelby Watkins drove her brand new black Mercedes into the parking lot of her high school and pulled into her usual spot, the closest spot to the door (in case it was raining or cold). Before getting out of the car, she brushed out her flawless brown hair and made sure her makeup wasn't smudged. After being assured that she looked perfect, she climbed out of the car.

After going to her locker, Shelby went down to the cafeteria to meet with her friends. On her way, nearly every single student she passed by stopped and said hi to her. Even almost all the teachers knew her by name. It was amazing being the most popular girl in school. She never had to worry about finding a party to go to or someone to hang out with over the weekend. In fact, she was rarely home on the weekends (not that her parents really cared anyway). Life was definitely good for Shelby.

((An age at least?))

Abel Raun bustled down the sidewalk with his hood drawn tightly over his head. His backpack hung heavily on his shoulders, as well as the inevitable anxiety of his first day at the new school. He had been kicked out of his last school for reasons unknown to the public; his wealthy family would never let something like that get out, would they?

He stopped abruptly at the front door, eyeing his reflection in the glass. He was surely a sight; clad in all white, contrasted by his messy black hair that fell into his blue eyes. Small ridges could be seen under his sleeve; he wore watches up to his elbows on both arms. No one knew why and none had ever asked. Each was of the same brandname and style, silver heads with black wristbands with tiny silver scrawled on them.

He pushed through the door and walked past the main office; he had ordered his class schedule online to save all of the introductary crap. Everyone seemed to watch him as he made his way to the cafeteria to catch breakfast before it ended. This is going to be an interesting day, he thought cynically to himself. He kept his eyes averted to the floor, though he could feel the many eyes of the cafeteria boring holes into him. Such was the life of the new kid.

((Around 17))

In the cafeteria, Shelby was busy picking off of her friends' breakfasts. She wasn't in the mood to stand in line and get her own food that particular morning.
"Who is that?" her friend, Lexi, blurted out. Shelby turned around in her seat to see a boy she'd never seen before. He looked like one of those psychos who went around setting off smoke bombs and causing all sorts of trouble.
"Eww, I don't know," Shelby replied. With a flip of her hair, she turned her attention back to her food. "It looks like they're starting to let crazy losers into this dump now," she told her friends. She made sure to say it loud enough so that whoever the new kid was heard her.

Abel lifted his head only to be greeted by a crude remark by one of the seemingly 'popular' girls. He ignored it for the moment, and found a place in line. The cafeteria workers were far from friendly; carelessly slapping a hard pancake onto his tray accompanied by a slab of sausage that looked like a rock. He plucked an orange juice from the drink bin and hurried back into the masses.

Navigating his way through the tables, he found the rude girl from earlier and cleared his throat. His eyes were icy as they glanced down upon her. "I'm not crazy," he simply said, placing his tray next to hers at the table. He knew he was in for a rude awakening as that seemed to be the popular table. But oh, how he enjoyed stirring things up.

Shelby was glad to see the "new kid" disappear into the kitchen part of the cafeteria. Part of her hoped that he'd stay in there. Sadly, he reappeared. She was shocked to see him plop down next to her as if he owned the world.
"Um, excuse me, but we're sitting here," she said, completely ignoring his remark. Letting out a sigh, she turned her back and flipped her hair over her shoulder, hoping it would hit him in the face.

Shelby and her friends went back to their previous conversation, trying to make some plans for the upcoming weekend. There were several parties going on all at once, and they were trying to pick out which ones to go to and which ones to avoid like a plague.

Abel smirked and opened his juice. "I know you are, and now I am, too." He pulled back as she flipped her hair, some of it catching in his eye. He rubbed it out and regretted sitting there. All these kids were, were clones. They were all the same, little barbie dolls that thought the world revolved around them. Sadly, most of the kids around them let them believe it if only to be included in the inner circle. Not Abel; no, he saw right through their plastic facade. But this was fun, so he continued on.

"You know," he edged in, "you should hit up all of them instead of excluding some."

Shelby rolled her eyes at the new kid. Who was he to start giving them advice on what parties to go to?
"Anyway, I think we should go to Brett's, then Kathy's, then we can go to my place. My parents won't care," Shelby told her friends. "That way we can get to two of the best parties before having the absolute best one on our own." It sounded like a logical idea, as long as that creep didn't show up, although she doubted that he would even know where to go.

Abel snorted at the idea of her throwing the 'best party.' Clearly, she had never been to any of the shindigs he'd thrown, though he doubted she would even if she could. They were exclusively for the outcasts like him, and he could already tell he was becoming one all over again and he hadn't even been there ten minutes.

He finished his orange juice and pushed himself away from the table, leaving the pancakes on the tray. He slung his pack over his shoulder and checked the time on every one of his wrist watches, then glanced down to the girl. "Catch you later, doll." He then sauntered out of the lunchroom and pulled out his schedule, searching for his first class.

The second the new kid was away from the table, Shelby and her friends burst out laughing. They knew that he could hear them, but they really didn't care.
"Who the hell was that?" Shelby managed to ask. All of her friends shrugged. Whoever it was, he was long gone, and they didn't have to worry about seeing him again.

The bell rang, signaling that it was time to go to class. Shelby shouldered her designer name tote bag she insisted on using a backpack.
"Bye you guys!" she called over her shoulder before sauntering off to her first class of the day, history.

Shelby was an all-A student, but people didn't usually think that when they saw her. She had the outward appearance of the popular girl who didn't care about her grades at all, and boy were they wrong! As soon as Shelby walked into history, she froze. There he was, that creep from earlier sitting in the formally vacant seat next to hers. Great, just great.

As Abel was unpacking his notebook and pens, he briefly glanced up to catch the eye of that barbie girl from lunch. You've got to be kidding me, he thought, instantly throwing on his best smug smile and winking at her. He hated her from the start, but he had to admit, it was fun toying with her. Her little reactions were so amusing.

He placed his notebook labeled 'History' in the exact middle of the desk (he knew for sure because he had measured) and placed three pens on its right side, and three pencils on its left; all perfectly straight and the same distance apart. He glanced up at her again and watched her take her seat.

"So we meet again, doll."

Grimacing noticibly, Shelby slid into her seat. She noticed the arrangement on his desk and gave him a weird look. Can you say OCD much? What got to her even more was the fact that he acted like they were best friends.
"Okay, let's get something straight, you and I aren't friends, so stop acting like we are. Secondly, my name is not 'doll,' it's Shelby, so either use my name or shut up!" With a final huff, Shelby spun forward in her seat and grabbed her pen and notebook out of her bag. This day just couldn't get any worse, or so she thought.

Abel cocked his head to the side, studying her for a moment. He noticed the way she'd looked at his desk, like there was something wrong with it. Wasn't that what barbie dolls like her craved, perfection? Or was she jealous because she could never live up to that standard? "Why aren't we friends, then?" he asked, grimacing at the thought of being buddy-buddy with her of all people.

He ignored the look the teacher shot him and rolled up one of his sleeves, revealing six perfect watches, all set to exactly the same time. "Don't you like them, doll? Or are they too weird for you, too?"

Shelby felt herself nearly shaking with anger. It was like this creep was doing everything in his power to get to her. She knew that the more she talked to him the more satisfaction he'd get out of their little encounters. Instead, she opened up her notes and prepared for the start of class.

The last bell rang, and class began. The teacher shut the door and began to lecture. Shelby took copious note and quickly forgot about the freak who kept stalking her. It sounded a little over dramatic, but that's exactly how she felt about him.

At the end of class, the teacher realized that she hadn't introduced whoever it was next to Shelby that decided that they were best friends. She called him to the front of the room and introduced him. There were snickers all across the room at his odd appearance.
"Now I need someone to be Abel's tutor, to help him catch up; do I have any volunteers?" Not surprisingly, no one raised their hands. Shelby was too busy checking out her nails, making sure they were perfect. "Shelby, how about you?" Her head shot up. This can't be good at all.

Abel stood still in the front of the room, trying to keep his expression indifferent as he attracted cruel stares and mocking snickers. It was hard, and his eyes fell to the floor. They didn't even know him, how was he an outcast already? He looked to the teacher helplessly, hoping she'd get the point and release him to his seat.

His eyes widened as Shelby's name came into play. True, he needed catching up as he barely understood half of the material. And it would be an amazing opportunity to torment miss barbie a bit more, but he did not want her tutoring him. That would require some sort of afterschool socializing and he didn't want to see her any more than he already had to. Still, he figured he might as well bite as no one else would volunteer to help him.

"Yeah, doll," he started with a smirk, "why don't you help me out?"

Shelby rolled her eyes. What was she supposed to do, say no to the new kid...Abel in front of the entire class? Way to be in the spotlight!
"Yeah, sure, whatever," she snapped as she pulled out her compact and checked her makeup. She couldn't believe this, she had to tutor this freak and help him catch up!

The bell couldn't ring fast enough for Shelby. She swept her books into her bag and slung it casually over her shoulder and made her way out of the classroom. She couldn't get away from Abel fast enough, he gave her the creeps.

As the girl darted out of the room, Abel felt both a sense of satisfaction and regret. Sure, he knew he was taking her on a trip, but he hated the idea of having her in his house or anywhere else for that matter.

He retreated to his desk and collected his belongings, ignoring the series of catcalls and kiss sounds eminating from the crowd of students around him. He knew what they were thinking and the thought made him sick. He pushed his way through the door after her and followed her to her locker. "Here," he said coldly, shoving a folded piece of paper at her, "come by afterschool and let's get this over with."

The paper contained his home address, as much as it pained him to give it to her, he had no other choice it seemed. He turned without another word and checked his schedule to find his next class; Chemistry, upstairs.

Abel's force caught Shelby off guard. She nearly dropped the paper. She unfolded it and looked it over, his house wasn't too far from hers. Before she could even react, he was gone. Sighing, she shoved the piece of paper in her purse and stalked off to her next class, English downstairs.

The rest of the morning was utterly glorious. There was absolutely zero sign of Abel, at least to Shelby. Several people were talking about him, but apparently he only bothered her to the point of insanity.

Lunch was a well welcomed outlet for Shelby. She slid into her seat in the middle of all her friends at the farthest corner of the lunchroom.
"Any sign of the creep?" Brandon asked.
"Yeah, I have to tutor him in history, which sucks! I can't believe my luck," Shelby grumbled as she took her anger out on her salad. So far today was the worst day ever, and she had a feeling that it was only going to get worse.

The rest of his morningi classes were far from pleasant for Abel. He was tripped, had paper balls thrown at him while introducing himself, and almost pushed down the stairs. Even the nerds and goths were messing with him, and they were on his end of it just yesterday. Somehow he managed to make it to lunch unscathed.

The cafeteria was bustling with people, all eager to give him hell. He rolled up both of his sleeves, of course attracting unwanted attention with his twelve watches gleaming under the flourescent lights. He ignored the jeers and went through the lunch line, grabbing a sandwich and orange juice and finding a table in the corner of the room, empty.

Before he managed to sit down, a jock ran up and smacked the tray out of his hands. He managed to save the juice, which he proceded to pour on the bully. "Leave me the hell alone," he snapped.

The noise level in the cafeteria rose. Shelby saw a jock giving Abel a hard time. Good, he deserved it after giving her such a nightmare earlier.
"Good for him," Shelby commented before taking a sip of water. A teacher rushed over to break of the confrontation before it got out of hand and bought Abel a new lunch.

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Shelby said goodbye to her friends and headed over to art. It was an easy A class, which was why she took it. Afterward, she headed to statistics, where there he was, Abel, once again, as if he was waiting for her. She knew that the day was going to get worse, and it just did.

Even though the teacher bought Abel a new lunch, he didn't touch it. Drank his orange juice and left the cafeteria before the bell rang, spending the rest of lunch and the next period in the boy's room. He was tired of this school already; it's not like they even tried to get to know him. "Stupid idiots," he mumbled, heading to his Statistics class.

As he prepared his desk just as he had in every other class, every book and pen perfectly aligned, he lifted his head to see none other than Barbie doll walk into class. You've got to be kidding me, he thought, giving her a cold stare before returning to his preparations. He hoped she would sit far, far away from him.
